  1. Who else was with him? Alan Smith? :7996:
  2. Spot on, this midfield has played one game together and could be potentially great. Ferguson is not even match fit and already there's talk about 'Mr Rangers' strolling back in as if nine months of declining performances didn't happen. The team should not be altered to accomodate Ferguson's ego. Pedro Mendez did what Ferguson has failed to do: he inspired his team-mates to a better level of performance. What Ferguson wants or thinks is irrelevant because we have to move on and start building and winning. If we stand still to suit Ferguson's agenda then we're finished. As a famous Ranger once said, "No man is bigger than the Club!" I'll second that too, fresh blood and new ideas in the midfield is long overdue . The fact is we played better without BF on Sunday than any period in the last six months.
  3. Remember that Brown & Thomson were initially offered as £3.5 million package and that would have been about right for a guy with no European and very little international experience. Fotunately for us, Brown and Petrie got greedy whilst Strachan couldn't resist the old oneupmanship... :harhar:
  4. I thought Thomson did well and provided some good crosses and hard running . I agree that the booking was a bit silly.
  5. And it's been this lack of healthy competition for 'Mr Rangers' that's part of the reason why his game has declined and Rangers -until yesterday :unionflag: - became a by-word for staleness, flatness and predictability. A player of Mendes' calibre has been long overdue at Ibrox and let's not forget the circumstances under which PM was signed. Kaunas anyone? Not necessarily. On the whole the midfield trio did well yesterday but already there's talk of breaking them up so a guy whose not even fit and presumably walk back in without a moment's thought. At whose expense? Why is Thomson suddenly being protrayed as the weak link? Ferguson made similar gaffs in the past and was never pillored for it. If anyone, I'd say Adam was the least successful of our midfield, although he did not disgrace himself by any means. I can see the viewpoint on this, but this potentially dynamic midfield engine room needs time to gel and settle. It was desperation that forced Walter's hand at the last moment, let's not forget that, and its only fair that Thomson-Mendez-Davis get a decent chance before Walter tries the inevitable experiments and the fans start demanding the recall of 'Mr Rangers'. IMO, Rangers Way is about setting new standards and expecting others to meet them. Whether Ferguson likes it or not, the onus is now him to match what Mendes and the others have achieved in midfield, not the reverse.. We have been treading water for far too long with the same boring line-ups and Ferguson has been part of the problem. It was no coincidence, for example, that our set pieces improved when anyone other than Adam took one. Ferguson is welcome back, as long as he earns the right to be there.
  6. Not anti-anyone, but pro-Rangers and I'll reserve the right to criticise .
  7. The goal was due to Papac sclaffing a clearance 2 yards in front of him right to Samaras in front of goal. McGeady shouldn't have got the space, but you can't blame Kirk for that goal. I'll always blame the first mistake. If Broadfoot had closed him down, then the cross wouldn't have developed into a goal in the first place. Again, just my opinion. If Thomson had been more alert to Mendes' pass the ball wouldn't have been given away. Equally, Weir could have done more to cut out McGeady's cross. Overall, it was a team failure, not the exact fault of one individual.
  8. His performance today deserves praise and was another hightlight in good result .
  9. Boyd ought to go. There is nothing that Velicka can do that he can't, he isn't the player Cousin is, he is not as mobile as Misser and doesn't have the potential of Lafferty. £3m for KB and JCD would be great deal .
  10. The jury is still out as far as I'm concerned.
  11. Daniel Cousin has his issues, but his performance today showed the kind of standard that Kris Boyd should be aiming for. I cannot recall Boyd scoring a similar goal to Cousin's quality strike today . As for the overall performance, sorry, but Boyd is nowhere near that kind of all rounder . He would've been swallowed by Celtic's defence today and there is no way he could have bullied Caldwell or McManus off the ball or created the kind of space and chances that D.C was doing. Today has been about high standards and new expectations. Kris Boyd is sorely lacking in both of these.
  12. Walter deserve credit for today's pleasing surprise. But there is still a lot of hard work to be done and a long season ahead of us. So I'll enjoy today but not get too carried away.
  13. I put 'Average'. The Cousin decision was a joke, both McManus and Caldwell had been committing similar challenges for almost the entire game. DC was no better or worse than either of Celtic's CB. For anyone to say JVH's red card was 'soft', sorry, but he had it coming. A blatant kick off the ball and then tried to wrestle KB to the ground. And just what was Broadfoot booked for? Thomson was booked for hee-haw too, the challenge was clumsy and naive but not bookable.
  14. A few points about today and our last four goal walloping we've handed out to Dark Hordes at the Piggery :beer2: . January 1994 August 2008 Hateley Cousin Mykhaylytchenko x2 Misser x 2 Kusnetsov Mendez A Rangers player -Alexi Mykhaylytchenko- scored also double. A Rangers goal came from a long range volley (Oleg Kusnetsov/Pedro Mendez) A Rangers goal came from a goalkeeping error (Mark Hateley this time) If Celtic had won in 1994 they would've been top of the League. Interesting this defeat in 1994 forced the resignation of Lou Macari and eventually the Old Celtic Board. So here's hoping?
