  1. I thought Foster showed-up more than a number of other players (for example, Law, McCulloch, Boyd) in the final two crucial matches of the season. He was also one of the few players to demonstrate some fighting spirit at the end. Law, predictably, didn't show when it mattered.
  2. In my view, Warburton is much better prepared and is an entirely different prospect to PLG. I'm confident that he'll do a great job.
  3. Really pleased at this appointment. Progressive and forwards-thinking. Also, Warburton, in my view, is a manager who can succeed at a "low level", and yet who has the capability to succeed at a "high level" once he and the club gets there. A perfect appointment in my opinion.
  4. I would not be surprised if Weir had a property here that he could use to remove the need to travel on a daily basis.
  5. Assuming he becomes the first-team manager, no, I'm not worried. In my view, the lower-levels of England are very tough leagues, full of committed and hard-working players that fight hard until the final minute. Indeed, I'm of the opinion that in England, teams both train harder and play harder than they do in Scotland at this time. Wins are not given away. So, to do a good job at a smaller club there is a good achievement. In addition, I'm interested in the kinds of players he could attract from the lower English leagues -- young, hungry players with ability and the potential to improve while at the club, while being available at prices that provide genuine value for money. What I find interesting about Warburton is that he has the potential to succeed at a "lower level" football, but also the potential to succeed at "higher level" football when he and the club gets there.
  6. Fan opinions -- taken as a mass collective and filtering out wild outlying views -- are quite a revealing insight as to whether a first-team manager had a good approach (in assembling, working with, and fielding his team on match-days). If you read around, Brentford fans certainly liked what they saw from Warburton and how he approached his work at that smaller-sized club. Lastly, in my view, the lower-levels of England are still very tough leagues, full of committed and hard-working players that give no quarter. So, to build something reasonable there is a good achievement. Personally, I'm keen on him but I guess we'll have to see what the club hierarchy think.
  7. Interesting. In my eyes, some clubs look to the "moneyball system" (statistical picking of players) as a means of saving money. (i.e., what you spend on a subscription for statistical services -- in other words, on a website subscription -- you don't spend on scouting/finding players by other means.) Personally, I don't like "moneyball" picking of players as I feel that statistics cannot give a true indication of a player's balance/poise/elegance/control with the football at their feet. If anything, if a club is going to use statistics services, they should merely be a "bonus" method of bringing the odd player here-and-there to the club's attention. But, even then, a player still needs properly looked at via video at the very least. And I still find the latter method preferable overall. In addition, looking at a player in "moneyball" terms (looking purely at statistics related to what they do) may make some players appear to be better than they actually are in terms of all-round ability. For example, Boyd, at his peak, would no-doubt have had pleasing statistics for taking goals. Yet, in my opinion, he has always been quite a limited player overall. In short, I feel that Warburton's position against a "moneyball" approach is correct.
  8. In terms of attributes, I'd like Rangers to double-down on their efforts to bring players to the club that are: * young * technically talented * quick * mentally stable/tough * physically strong I listed physical strength last, as that can be built at the club with basic bodyweight and barbell training movements, plus diet. Time-scale should be under a year for visible improvements. Markets would be: * the lower English leagues (even at lower levels, these are tough leagues). * Scotland. * around Europe if genuine value was on offer. In my view, a manager like Mark Warburton could suit this strategy.
  9. For the captaincy, I feel Rangers should be looking to Wallace, Miller, or a new dominant central defender. My preference would probably be the latter option.
  10. Pedro Mendes = bona fide quality footballer.
  11. I feel the cricket term "flat track bully" applies to Law. i.e., he's a player who can dominate inferior opposition when all is going in his favour. However, as soon as the going gets tough, he recedes into the background. If he is lucky enough to remain at the club, I'd be interested to see how he does with a better style of football. Then there would really be no excuses.
  12. In big matches such as this, with a lot of money riding on them for both sides, it is obvious that fans should not be allowed to physically distract players with sticks/objects/umbarellas (and so on) when they are taking throw-ins and corners . They are free to give all the verbals the like, but physically interfering with play is not on. Motherwell did an intentionally poor job in that regard and they should pay a price for it.
  13. Bleh. Zaliukas is a poor, poor player in my opinion -- physically weak and technically poor. In fact, I'd say that all of the "go to" central defenders at the club -- i.e., Zaliukas, McGregor, McCulloch and Moshni -- all have glaring weaknesses in their games. I'm a little bit contrarian in that I actually prefer Moshni out of all of them -- I think he is technically and physically better. However, sadly, he's also a lunatic who cannot focus in matches, and according to McCall, he is moving on. Whatever happens, let's hope that area is strengthened.
  14. That poor wee Motherwell player eh? Poor wee innocent soul so he is. His mates too. Moshni was unprofessional and will be moving on, but those Motherwell players are no better.
  15. Vukic looks to me to have a good level of technical and physical ability. When he came in, he made a real difference straight away -- he played a big part in getting Rangers into the position of playing Motherwell to win the promotion. Unfortunately, he had his 2 worst games of the season in these last two games. That, in my view, is related to the approach Rangers took in these matches. If it is possible, Ferguson and Vukic would be good additions to the squad in my opinion.
