  1. Not sure that is strictly true but closer to the mark than Mr Sparkes. He initially backed PLG's decision, then wasn't convinced about PLG's re-building plans and decided he had to go. Seem to remember he gave Ferguson quite a kicking about it all, too. To the OP: I would hope Ally gets at least a bedding-in season, provided that the worst-case scenario is 2nd place but within reach of the enemy and signs of development. If we end up 10 points behind or somesuch, then I think a change would need to be made. I just hope he never has to suffer the kind of abuse Eck did on here if it all goes tits-up. Some of that was disgraceful.
  2. Harald Schumacher's assault on Patrick Battiston at the 82 world cup was pretty nasty. The move starts at about 1:44.....
  3. Other than those djw mentioned, the only players of the last 10 years that I know have made steps into coaching/management that may have what it takes are Derek McInnes, Ian Murray and Weir. I think McInnes will be managing in the EPL in 2-3 years and may not want to return to Scotland, not too sure about Murray but fully expect Weir to be a raging success in management and would be happy for him to be that raging success at Ibrox (when Ally moves on after collecting a few trophies).
  4. I reckon Genoa have dropped the name somewhere, though, as Dutch and Swedish press both appear to have gone live with this very quickly. If 4.5 million euros turns out to be true, I doubt we were seriously at the races on this one anyway.
  5. Just as a wee side issue to the Whittaker thing (cos I can't be arsed with another Bursa-related thread), they do at least appear to have dropped their interest in Shagger. Some German report says they are signing Robert Green instead.
  6. Would agree with most on here: sign Bartley on a permanent deal, loan Wilson, then play one or the other with an experienced partner. There would be no real need to try and develop them as a long term partnership as we know Wilson would be heading back to Liverpool next year. I also like the fact that both can step into other roles if required: Bartley in centre mid and Wilson at left back. Also feel they are both mobile enough to allow Ally to play a back 3 if required.
  7. Could be his big chance to play in the EPL as I reckon Eck will take them straight back up. Linky-poo Edit: forgot the link
  8. Absolutely fantastic player. Always remember a game at Tynecastle (his first visit there?) when he took down a high kick out from Woods with his foot, turned, and went fleeing off down the wing in one fluid movement. Left the Hearts cluggers looking more stupid than ever.
  9. Please, please, please let this be true. Will be an absolute waste of a wage. A half-paced donkey with a permanent limp and tunnel vision. Take away the one or two Hollywood goals a season and there is nothing there.
  10. In the Guardian rumour column. I don't know where the original comes from. Apparently Ajax and Rangers have enquired. Gaurdian Rumour Page He's a 19 year old left winger. Made 3 starts on loan at Notts County last season, scoring 2 goals but only has game time for Liverpool as an extra-time substitute in the Carling Cup. Bit more here: Liverpool site ESPN I will immediately confess to having no knowledge of the lad. We do need left-sided players though.
  11. Either way too much time spent on the paranoids-led taxcase site or an extremely active imagination.
  12. From the statement: This allows for up to 5 million net investment per annum in any given year up until 2016 over and above the 5 million already promised for this close season. The "front-ending" will refer then to the possibility for 5 million of that additional 20 million to be used this summer as well, it will just be taken away from one of the other years. I reckon it is therefore likely that Ally has 10 million plus whatever he generates through sales.
  13. Actually, if you trust his wee Wiki page, we could have another nutter on our hands, with a full raft of excuses for travelling fuck-ups on international duty..... YB Wiki
  14. Do trolling timothys on the wind up actually have to post "I'm a trolling timothy on the wind up" before they get removed from this site? I actually think its getting worse.
  15. Again, I wouldn't see what they could complain about if they had let his contract get into the position where he could do so. Are you trying to say that they wouldn't have got value for their 500K outlay in the three years of service they received? In the specifics of the Adam/Blackpool case, I would actually say they should be grateful he is there at all, considering the nonsense over his bonus last summer.
  16. The mods on here need to stop pissing around and get on with editing the BBC pages. Come on. Shoo.
  17. Still don't see how he's screwing us. The only rumoured bids for him this summer have been 1.5 million euros and 1 million pounds. And did we not get anything from him over the last three years? No great performances? No game-saving goals or challenges?
  18. Not sure I understand why people are so upset about this. We've known for at least a year that he was planning to move on this year or next. We're not even losing any money on him as his purchase price has been amortised over the length of his contract, so all but about 600K has already been removed from the books. We won three titles with him in the team, we'll win a lot more after he's gone. What's the problem?
  19. Two views on this: media and other managers tend to say he had no chance as he kept having players sold out from under him with no warning; Everton fans say he shot himself in the foot by playing players out of position and being tactically inflexible. Probably a bit of truth in both.
  20. I would say you would be correct more often than not. However, the three examples above weren't getting a game for their teams before they came to the SPL and two of them were pretty much bought to sell strips. Frings played nearly all Bremen's league and European games last season and knocked in a few goals, so he still might have something to offer.
  21. Everybody plays twice, then split into top 6 and bottom 8. So top half, where you have Rangers carrying the SPL in Europe and needing more free midweeks, play 36 games. Bottom half play 40 games, making up for not getting us or them for a second time at home.
  22. He needs to start working on his ponytail if he wants to be like Dado.
  23. Looks like the majority of the SPL have told Doncaster where to stick his 10 team SPL. From BBC What are our thoughts on this? The bigger the better for me, but 16 or 18 ain't happening any time soon.
