How are any of the current squad meant to put their bodies on the line for the club when they see their captain and vice captain absolutely shit the bed when their leadership is needed most
Tav isnt a good right back, just like lego muncher wasnt a good midfielder (in that theres better options out there)
But one of them galvanised a group of ordinary players into a team willing to go to the wire for the tarriers, the other collapses at a minutes notice of a challenge which surely must negatively affect the rest of the squad

Souttar, Ferguson and Shankland wouldve given us a spine of Scottish talent, they would know that at Rangers the expectations are much higher than at the rest of the dross and we wouldnt have had to rely on Goldson, Lundstram and Dessers as our spine (or lack of)

I dont agree with that, I think Souttar is a decent player who is Scottish and knows what it means to play for us, unfortunatly hes stuck next to a fucking idiot in Goldson and has hardly been played in his porper position, stick him on the right and get Balogun or someone else who can actually play and we might see why he was signed.

I said it in the match thread last night that I feel sorry for Butland and Sterling for having to deal with this shower of shite they are on the park with and unfortunately I think he knows himself hes on the park with a bunch of useless twats.

That said, a bit of genuine ‘no surrender’ attitude wouldn’t go amiss, on the evidence of the last 2 games.
Or did we only have 45 minutes worth, and we used it all up the other Sunday?

Yup and without it won't matter who's in the dugout because they will be second best regardless.
The board need to deliver in the next few windows if we have any chance to win another title in the next few years.

as the title suggests, we have nobody who gets what it means to play for Rangers, closest we have is Alex Rae in the dugout and maybe John Souttar on the park but we have nobody who would run through a brick wall for us or someone who would tell the truth in an interview. I've always felt in the past to be successfull we need a strong spine of people who have grown up supporting us who would put their body on the line for us, the last person we had like that was Halliday but he was a limited footballer.
Everytime I watch these footballing nobodies we have playing for us I just dont get the feeling that they go home sad to have drawn or lost, I dont get the feeling that they feel sorry for the fans. They most likely get home, have a smoothie, slippers on and watch Netflix then go to training next day and have a laugh with their mates.

I think the idea of having those days of having Rangers men are over. I get why people want them but we have had some and it's not worked out. We need to focus on getting the best young players in. It's sad if we need to forget about this tradition but many other successful teams out there don't have whateverclub-men and yet they are doing well.
The team needs gutted. Clement deserves criticism but he also deserves more time to build a team of players who are capable of playing for the club. And we need to improve our recruitment/coaching so we can create new "Rangers Men". Like @BlueSuedeSambas said above, a whole generation is out there that don't know what this club is about.

We are also getting dangerously close to a point where the young Scottish players coming through who should know what Rangers is all about and what’s required aren’t actually going to know what Rangers is all about because we’ve been shite for the majority of the past 12 years and that’s all they are going to know.

My point is simple…….  We need decent football players with a winning mentality that are highly motivated and competitive.

I couldn’t give two fucks if they are “Rangers men” or not. You start looking for “Rangers men “ you have immediately shrunk your talent pool.

look at some of the players that have went abroad, lewis ferguson being the prime example there's talent in the league, but for whatever reason we dont want to buy it, I'll die on the hill that if we had bought Shankland in January we'd be a good bit ahead in the league

It’s not irrelevant, you were using the current celtic teams as an example in the post I quoted and I pointed out those sides in recent years have been captained by Scottish players

I believe having 'Rangers men' or at least the best young Scottish talent, is an important identity of the club.
In hindsight, we should have signed Ferguson when we had the chance.

There was something about watchin 11 guys who loved the club playing in the colours, but aye, won't be happening again, the game is run by money not affiliation nowadays.

OP has a fair point. Rangers minded players are few and far between in the squad. They’re not essential to success, but definitely help in my opinion. I want to see characters in the dressing room. No offence to anyone, but most our current squad come across as boring bastards. They’re dreadful footballers to boot which only compounds matters.

Scottish players generally do seem to have quite a good work ethic because they are more limited on a technical side, it’s just the way our game is. It’s why our league is fast paced and physical compared to the likes of Italy or Holland, it’s why Lammers has broken a scoring record since January but was utter mince here.
We definitely have to be more open minded to signing players like Lewis Ferguson but preferably before he moved to the sheep as he would have been cheaper. The big problem is we don’t do well developing players like this as they never seem to get a good run of games to develop as they would at other clubs because they have les riding on each game whereas our support demand we win every match.

I don’t buy that the players are shit. We don’t get to a Europa cup final with shit players, limited players yes but not shit. The problem is they show up when it suits them and hide when it doesn’t.
We’ve also taken big gambles on players who will be good if we can get them firing again (be it injury or drop in form over the years) as they are cheaper than buying the players in their prime. Far too many of them have been failed experiments.
The trick is to spot talent and aptitude in younger players before they make it, sign them when they are cheap enough to take a punt on them,  embed them in a squad with positive role models so that they follow suit, then sell them on when they outgrow the club.

I don’t think they need to support the club they play for but there’s definitely evidence that it benefits the side to have someone from the country involved.
Almost every single successful team be it us or them has been littered with Scottish internationalists at the core of it.
