  1. I'd happily have paid any amount to see that team take to the park.
  2. Two very different type of players. Negri was the most clinical finisher i,ve seen in nearly 40 years watching us who did all his work in and around the eighteen yard box. Mols IMO could ,if not for his tragic injury have equaled or come close to Negris total but offered more in other areas of the park. Mols for me although what would we give to see players of this calibre at present.
  3. The bad habits are handed down from one generation to the next. You only need to look at the stick dished out to Hemdani or Clement because they didn't 'get tore in' enough. Guys like Hemdani and De Boer are good examples of players that got berated at times. If you can read the game, and understand positioning, you don't need to get tore in or run about giving the impression of working hard. Pre injury Steven Smith was a fans favourite because he did get tore in, and loved launching into tackles. However most ignore the fact he had to do this because his positioning was poor and he simply had to do it to make up for it. A lot of people see this as giving 100%, others see it as poor coaching. Whittaker does the exact same thing that you mention, and it is down to poor coaching. Maybe there could be training sessions where they have a no tackling rule, in the hope that positioning is improved? :-D PLG tried the no tackling training sessions for this very reason. Shot down in flames by the Scottish players, former players & ill-informed media alike. Until the Managers/Coaches/Players/Fans in this country place more emphasis on skill, technique & tactics rather than strength, power & "the get stuck in " mentality nothing will change.
  4. Good luck to Alan Smith. Hope he has a long and successful career with us. I'll give him 100% support at all times.
  5. Played in the team that lost 5-0 to Sunderland at Murray Park last week.
  6. Yep the very same. Also ripped apart Celtic too. Oh yeah:D Hope we get him. This is the type of player we need upfront, someone with a decent bit of pace, good touch, movement and awareness and can also hit the back of the net. Also he is young, so when the inevitable happens and he wants to go the EPL we can command a good fee for him.
  7. When born - Scott Symon. 1st match - Willie Waddell.
  8. Correct. Got forward well including the best cross of the game midway through the second half Was never troubled at the back and had a superbly timed tackle right at the end Would have no concerns playing him in the spl this season.
  9. D'artagnan I salute you sir Armed Forces . No words can ever show our appreciation and admiration for the job you do on behalf of our country but this is as close as anybody is ever going to get.
  10. Going off topic, but i don't see how the Le Guen situation can be viewed as a mistake now. I know there's always been views about too much player power in the situation etc but at the end of the day Le Guen wasn't getting us anywhere, we got a new manager in narrowly missed out on winning back the league in a season where we had an incredible number of games and has won back to back titles following that. I'd be the last to claim things have been perfect under Walter Smith, i've been one of his biggest critics, but i don't see how things would be any better if Le Guen has stayed on. the way it was handled was a huge mistake, by Murray, Ferguson and by the fans, it was embarrassing. le guen wasnt getting us anywhere at that time, but he was totally new to evberything about our club and our game, he had players turn against him in the dressing room because they were too lazy to change their ways, le guen got us through our europa group and we had a great chance against osasuna, smith kept up his shocking euro record and got us knocked out as usual. no one knows, fans like to think they do, but no one knows what would have happened had we sold fergie, had murray backed his gaffer and not sided with players and the fans and no one would have known what would have happened had PLG stayed on, yes we moved on, yes we won titles, but titles in Scotland imo are over rated, although we can only beat who we are up against, i dont think its as hard as our club make it look to win leagues here given the huge resources at our disposal(even in spite of the state our moneymen have us in), the standard and level within the spl is shite. i felt sorry for plg, i was angry with murray, and i lost all respect for ferguson and sort of lost a bit of faith in our fans too over that saga, but its in the past, its done now, we move on, well have we?, look at the state we are in, 2 titles, umpteen trophies, 1 lucky euro run, 2 champs league campaigns, yet look at us, unable to sign players for last 2 years and being run by an outside influence, its sickening, its Murrays mistakes which have taken us here, helped(or not as the case was) by his wee lap dog Bain! Re - PLG He was destined to fail from day one because a group of players refused to behave like professional athletes Re - No 6 Showed his true colours by running to our enemies in the media in a desperate attempt to put a positive spin on the story.(Shameful) Re DM Not for the first time (or the last) lacked the courage/judgement to make a decision with the clubs best interests at heart. i agree with the first 2 points you make, however on the third, maybe he did act in the best interests of the club, we were all over the place on the park, but this was due to players playing like they believed the shite written about them in the mhedia, and the way the defence was put together, very poorly, once the dressing room and fans patience is lost for any manager, it is very hard to get it back. canadian_bear made a very good point, le guen didnt sign the players who made his rep at lyon, someone else did, he just put thsoe superstars on the park, during a time when french football was in decline and they won so much my issue and the mistake i was on about RE-PLG is how things were handled, plg was sacked coz he failed to control his players, failed to gain the respect of his players(not his fault i dont think) and he failed to win on the park, i believe "barry backwards" should also have been sacked along with the manager. the way the whole saga panned out was disgusting and embarrassing. i did feel sorry for him, even though he ultimatly failed. Flecky i respect your viewpoint but for me the most disappointing aspect of this shameful treatment of a decent man was had DM backed PLG and he had rid the dressing room of the five renegade players what the future could have been. A united dressing room all pulling in one direction. A united dressing room willing to embrace change. A united dressing room willing and able to carry out onfield instructions. A united dressing room dedicated to living their lives like the pro-athletes they are paid to be. We will never find out how the club would have progressed in terms of Style of play. Promotion of youths. European tactics. I accept that others will have a different take on this and i can respect that but will always believe we missed out on a oppertunity with PLG
  11. The club in its wisdom didn't make his testimonial all-ticket. I sat in the top tier of the Govan stand at kick off in a already full stadium watching as thousands of fans outside moved from one queue to another in a desperate attempt to get in. Estimates were of 10,000 people unable to gain enterance including 4 friends of mine who had stopped off in Dumbarton for a drink and were turned back by the police a couple of miles from the stadium.
  12. He was offered the backing of SDM and refused it, he had long since made up his mind of moving on. Not the version of events iv'e been led to believe. PLG V DM who would i believe?? One is a decent honorable man who had the clubs long term future at heart while the other is DM who has contradicted himself on numerous occasions. No argument from me regarding how honourable SDM is. We have differing versions of the final PLG events, I believe the version I was told. Not really much else we can say on that one. I have already voiced my opinions on here regarding the spineless bastard that was PLG, so again, not much point in going into it again. No problems mate. We'll agree to disagree.

  14. Re- LCF goal. Heard a story that when Scotland next met up Jim Leighton said to Coop"I nearly got my hand to that ball" to which DC looked at him and replied " Aye on the way back out". .
  15. Remember watching him in the 3 league cup games for Clydebank againgst us in 76-77. Ran John Greig & Alex Miller ragged Sometimes in the early 80s DC and Bobby Russell were the only reasons for turning up.
  16. Met him on a couple of occasions. Gentleman and credit to the club. If he hadn't played for us he would have been standing along side us.

  18. Re - Ferguson, Should have been released/sold in Dec 06 Re - PLG, Undermined by influential group of players & not backed by DM Re - Advocaat -Start of his second season 1999-2000 was the best football i have seen us play.although he signed some quality players he also signed Darius Adamczyk, Alan Johnston, Marcus Gayle, Tero Pentilla etc.

    AJ

100% correct Because of MB we lost three men, all talented, dedicated and ambitious, generally regarded as the best in the country in their departments and yet all three couldn't work with MB. Along with DM he is responsible for the way the club has been run. Re- AJ, DM & LBG all they are doing is running the club within its means while driving down the debt something DM said on more than one occasion but never actually addressed.
  20. The bank will decide the terms and conditions under which we'll have to operate. IMO a long term strategy should always prevail over short termism so if we have to make sacrifices now to enable us to move forward in the future then the answer is yes but lets never forget its the reckless mis-management policies of DM which have placed us in our current predicament.
  21. The big difference between Man Utd and Rangers is they have a manager who believes in and puts his faith in the younger players and doesn't play them only as a last resort. Honestly don't see much changing. Only when they are good enough Agreed We have 4 or 5 who can become the nucleus of a Rangers team for many years to come but only if WS/AMC show faith and trust in their ability.

  23. Why value him at only £4 million!! International class keeper with the best years still ahead of him. EPL teams pay silly money for lesser players and its about time we started playing hardball with them. Minimum negotiating price should start at £6 million. One of the areas we can make decent money so lets do it properly. I value him about 4 million tbh. You obviously don't, which is fair enough. One of the few players we have who could generate a decent transfer fee . We are therfore duty-bound to take advantage of our neighbours vastly over inflated transfer system. Start at £6 million and hope more than one club is interested. If only things were that easy mate. Don't think i'm being over optimistic re- AMG whom i think could quite easily play for any of the big 4,5 or is it 6.
  24. Anytime i have seen Perry play alongside Wilson i got the impression Perry was the one who did most of the organizing and showed more leadership qualities. Thought together they would form our centre defensive pairing for many years.
