  1. At a game about 87/88 season with my old mate Ronnie. About the 47 minute mark Ronnie pipes up, " I see Souness has made a tactical change...Cooper's swapped wings" My other mate Alan turns to him and says, " Ronnie, waken up, it's the second half now, and we're shooting the OTHER way!!"
  2. Looking for INTEGRITY amongst the Scottish written and broadcasting media, is like trying to find a BACKBONE in a barrel of JELLYFISH !!
  3. Get Scot Gemmill in as Head Youth Coach. Judging by his work in charge of the young Scotland team(s) he seems able to motivate and communicate ideas to the best young talent in this country.
  4. When it was revealed that there was to be no facility available to renew by credit and debit card, alarm bells started sounding in my head. What, if ANY Global Business/Brand can hope to operate and compete at the top level, if those providing security on credit and debit cards withdraw their backing and good faith. I have been a loyal supporter home away and abroad for over fifty years, but I simply CANNOT afford to GAMBLE and throw my cash into a black hole without any guarantee or assurance that my money is safe. That is the bottom line for me, and I'm sorry if it offends those who CAN afford to take a chance.
  5. Erik was the manager of Morton when I was there as a teenager around 1973/74. My memory of him at training is that he used to fancy himself as a bit of a free scoring centre forward, and would NEVER play in goals. He would also keep the end of training game going for as long as it took him to score the winning goal. if we didn't let him, he would have made us play all night until he did !!
  6. Try Croft Radio Cars - GlasgowTaxis & Private Hire. . 0141-633-2222. Always found them to be pretty good on price and reliability,
  7. My favourite memory of Supporters bus travel was on Christmas Day 1971 when we played Hibs in the league. I was 15 years of age, and was only allowed to travel by my mum, if I could guarantee that I would be home and ready in time for the family Christmas Dinner at 8pm. The pledge was made, and off I went with my pal Graham, aboard the Nithsdale Loyal from The New Regent Bar. The game was won when the aforementioned Colin Stein scored the only goal of the game in the dying minutes. Unfortunately, our bus broke down before we had gotten out of Edinburgh, and by the time a replacement bus got us back, it was nearly 11 pm before I got in the house. My mum was raging and my Christmas dinner was cold...BUT I was happy, the Rangers had won, so i really didn't care !
  8. Jim Baxter was GOD!!…end of.
  9. ..."loyalty" would appear to be a one way street for some !
  10. John Greig and Jim Steele. I saw Greigy destroy Jim Holton in the infamous "friendly" at Old Trafford in 1974. This was when Holton was in his prime, and regarded as one of the hardest players in the English league. John started that game with his hamstring strapped up, but it didn't stop him. "Six Foot Two, Eyes of Blue, Big Jim Holton's After YOU !!" proving NO match for, "Johnny Greiggy Greiggy Greiggy, Breaks Another Leggy !!" I also remember Jim Steele whilst on a brief loan period with us from Southampton, putting Johnny Doyle Celtic's "electric" winger six feet in the air and on to the ash track in front of the Main Stand at Ibrox. Jim was returned to Southampton early, after 2 sendings off in a month. His do or die play proving too much even for Big Jock Wallace !!
  11. Two of the Greatest Rangers players it has been my privilege to have seen playing in my 50 years of follow-following. A MAGNIFICENT gesture by the Kirkintilloch RSC, in replacing the stolen medal.

Or we could just go round there and break his legs... Fixed that for you.

  14. Read it on CRO last night Eskbankloyal. Great piece on a great unsung Rangers hero.
  15. When I first decided to put this thread up for discussion on here, I fully expected the diverse re-action and debate that has emerged. I understand and empathise with the opinions and views from those who truly believe that Ally will ultimately deliver us back to the very top of the Scottish game. Yes, we are currently heading up the Division...but it IS the THIRD Division. We seem to have lost our way on this journey. We now no longer look like a Top Flight club that has been shoe-horned into the Third Division. On the playing side, we look for every part, a Third Division team...and it saddens me greatly ! However, my own personal feeling is that it is NOW that we must make the choice between continuing down the road of success based purely on results, or whether we would rather see that SAME success achieved by playing the game at a quicker and ultimately more attractive tempo. I don't believe we are heading in the right direction, and I don't believe Ally and his management team can turn this around. When Graeme Souness was appointed as Player/Manager, he had no experience of top flight management, and at 37 years of age, was considerably younger than Ally when he was lined up to assist Walter Smith. Ally has had six years to grow into the job, and "learn the ropes"... Souness had six MONTHS, and had to do it in the TOP division ! Whether or not you agree with me about my preferred choice of Derek Adams as Manager, I will stand by my claim that NOW is the time for change.
  16. First, a little about me...I have been a Rangers supporter all of my life, and started going to games when I was only six years old, back in season 1962-63. I have seen and enjoyed many triumphs, and witnessed a good few horror moments throughout the years. I have been a season ticket holder for more years than I care to remember, from the old Enclosure, the old Main Stand, to my now more sedate surroundings in The Club Deck. From these seats I have witnessed the comings and goings of every manager from Scot Symon to Ally McCoist. When The Rangers were forced to take up their place in the bottom tier of the Scottish Football League, I along with many thousands of others bought into the notion that we were starting again...starting on the bottom rung of the ladder of the senior professional game in this country. I still believe that we were harshly treated by a bunch of jealous and bitter rivals lead by a man(?) Peter Lawwell, driven by his club's barely hidden agenda for bloodlust and the destruction of The Rangers. However, I was strangely looking forward to starting out on a journey that would eventually lead us back through the divisions, back to the very pinnacle of the Scottish game and beyond. The loss of players through desertion and transfer, and the illegal Transfer Embargo imposed, left the management with very little option other than to recruit "journeymen" professionals, and pad out the rest with youngsters and older players who thankfully decided to stay. We had an opportunity to start again...to lay down a marker, and say "This is The Rangers Football Club, and THIS is how we do things here!" The players that we started the 2012-13 season are/were more than capable of winning the Third Division, but I believe we have missed the chance to establish the template for the future. The players should have been coached to play the game at a far higher tempo than they currently display. The fitness levels should be that as would be required if they were playing in European competition. In short, the opposition at Third Division level should not be able to get the ball off us, never mind going a goal (or two) up against us at home, as has happened on a number of occasions this season. I would have hoped that by this stage of the season we would have been so far out of sight points wise, that the league title was all but wrapped up ...and it HAS been ! ...but can any of us really honestly say that we have enjoyed the football on display ? Yes I have loved going to all the games I can, in very near capacity crowds where the atmosphere for the most part, has been better than it has been for years. We have been accused of being "DEFIANT"... well I defy THAT! Were it pure defiance, the novelty of it all would have evaporated long before the clocks went back in October. It is NOT defiance...it is LOVE...WE all LOVE The Rangers F.C. I LOVED "Super" Ally McCoist the Player...his goal scoring exploits in a Royal Blue jersey are second to none...I LOVE "Super" Ally McCoist the man... he has been the glue that has held The Rangers together over the last two dreadful years. I have NO doubt that without his presence, then this GREAT football club that we all love dearly, would have sunk without trace...it would have gone the way of Third Lanark F.C., and become no more than a fading romantic memory. However, I no longer love "Super" Ally McCoist the manager. I am not looking forward to next season as I should be. Don't get me wrong, when the Season Ticket renewal form pops through the door, I will fill it in and return it with my payment as I have done for all these years, but I will not be looking forward to more of the same for 2013-14, in whichever division THEY decide we are competing. I think Ally and his staff have taken us as far as they can along this road, and NOW is the time to make long and lasting decisions for change and for the future. There is a guy at Victoria Park, Ross County, who is young, dynamic, and passionate about his job (all of which are displayed in his team when they take to the pitch). He has been through the divisions, served time as assistant manager at Hibs, and gotten his team to the Scottish Cup Final 2010, and currently 2nd position in the SPL, all on a shoe-string budget ! That man is Derek Adams. (His father George was formerly in charge of Youth Development at Ibrox, until a "personality clash with Martin Bain saw him resign). Craig Brown's imminent retiral at Aberdeen will surely see Derek Adams, with his managerial record ( and as a former Pittodrie player) register strongly on their radar. If as I expect Aberdeen make him an offer, and he accepts, then both Aberdeen's stock and that of Derek Adams will rise to the point where his next and subsequent moves will be to the EPL, and out of our League (like Sir Alex Ferguson) forever! I would urge that we approach Derek Adams and get him signed up for next season before it is too late.
  17. Well aside from ALWAYS knowing that Strongbow is an eminently better Cider, there is now a VERY good reason for preferring it over that Irish trash... Celtc have announced, that from next season for three seasons, their shirts are to be sponsored by Magners. HELLO ! HELLO ! We are The BILLY 'BOWS

  19. I went to that game, but was told by mother that I HAD to be back in the house for 8pm for Christmas dinner. I promised her that I would come straight home off the bus, and was allowed to go. I had every intention of keeping my promise, but the bus (Nithsdale Loyal) broke down in Edinburgh on the way home, and we had to wait for a replacement bus to be sent out> Needless to say when I phoned home, it was from the pub (no mobile phones back then) and I didn't get in until after 10.30pm. No amount of reasoning nor persuasion could convince her that I had not just detoured to the pub.
  20. Charles Green has been the CEO of The Rangers for what, 6 months ? In that very short time he has managed to turn around a hugely sceptical support (myself included) into one that now feels that FINALLY we have someone in a position of influence at our club, who speaks honestly and without fear in defence of The Rangers Football Club, and it's HUGE support. I am MORE than happy to be a foot soldier in this man's army ! A Merry Christmas to you and yours Charles Green, you've certainly given this Bear cause for optimism for 2013 and beyond...Thankyou !!
