The fanbase was already as swollen as it could arguably get - we had just won 9iar! Did SDM increase the capacity of Ibrox to better Celtic's 60,000 stadium? Did he say in the late 90s after several poor attempts in the CL, buying big name players doesn't really work on it's own, let's build a youth academy to make the most of the future? Did he say, bloody hell; some of these expensive signings are letting us down, let's work on our scouting system? Did he say, the fans have been brilliant over the last 120 years, let's give them a genuine say in how the club is run? While, SDM may have shared the ambitions of the fans there was no real vision or direction in our investments. It was buy, buy, buy without any genuine thought in how we were spending the money. There was no real investigation into how we could have cemented our then successes into long term dominance and/or future safeguards. I'm amazed that some people in their haste to absolve Murray of any harsh criticism are preferring to blame the fans for not investing while failing to see the most obvious of faults with our past strategies. lol.points taken frankie. strange paragraph at the end though as nowhere did i absolve murray from critisism or blame the fans :smo:
