  1. Naismith showed in flashes before this season that there was a player in there, due to injuries and being shunted around different positions no doubt held him back. However he's absolutely vital for us now - over the the full season was definitely my player of the year. What was it? Something like 14 goals and 6 assists from midfield? He's only going to get better for me and I love his feisty attitude. Future captain for me as well.

  2. For me it all depends on whether we sell Boogie now. If so I'd keep SDOW on a pay as you play deal. If it's looking ropey then we can part company midway through season. The benefits are we don't lose our manager and captain in same summer, we have his experience and leadership for Ally's bedding in period and he helps settle in T least one new centre half.

  3. Nae wonder you keep getting fuckin banned fae here. :anguish:

He did a good job - we don't know if he'll do another good job.

    He's 32 yo FFS.

There must be better options out there than a 32 yo.

If there's not, then I'm afraid the 1st thing Craig Whyte needs to do is look at our scouting system.

Miller is a proven performer in Scottish football. No matter how good your scouting you could end up with an expensive wash-out if going for an unknown quantity. As i said along with singing a young striker as well, i'd happily have him back. Guarantee of 20+ goals and would be ideal with a fully-fit Jela. Clearly if there are 10 other proven, international strikers on the market for free (or close), who are interested in moving to Scotland and within our wage budget then im all for looking at them.

  4. I would take him back on a free and without overpaying on his contract, allowing us to still buy Goodwillie or someone of that promise. 4 forward options of Jelavic, Lafferty, Miller and Goodwillie (or similar) would see us well placed to retain our title.

Much better option than Diouf up front surely???

  5. Good interview with Neil Murray in the Sundays yesterday. He talks very well of his strategy and network for spotting talent. Talks about a number of ex Gers now managers etc in European leagues who can help (Berg, Numan, Amo). We should wait to get the right people in rather than just grabbing bodies.

  6. I'd be looking to spend the bulk of our budget on 3 "first-team" quality players then fill out the squad with a couple of bosmans and a couple of loans. I'd spend some money on a centre half, wide midfielder and a quick striker.

I wouldn't want to stifle the likes of Ness, Hutton and Wylde with journeymen older pro's jumping ahead of them. Use the loans (e.g. Bartley to provide cover)

  7. We enter at Qualifying Round 3 (Champions Route). Not all Euro leagues are finished but 85% of the teams are confirmed. We will play the likes of:-

    Skonto Riga Lat 2.233

APOEL Nicosia Cyp 13.124 FC Fehérvár H** 2.200

Wisla Kraków Pol 10.183 Bangor City Wal 2.058

    . Skënderbeu Korçë Alb 0.774

4th and final round will likely see us up against the likes of Rosenberg or Dinamo Zagreb. So tricky games but eminently winnable.

  8. Quietly confident - will all be tough games but our best players are hitting form at this key time. Davis looks more like him old self, naisy is back to full fitness, Jelavic is Jelavic, McGregor is in top form and Bougie looks interested again. Massive game Saturday - go 4 clear and whack the pressure on. Am it right in saying Kayal is out for season? Massive if so - he's there only ball winner an they will struggle bs hearts at tynecastle.

  9. I'm concerned by his venture capitalist/investment background and therefore the likely way any deal is going to be funded. However I have no qualms if he wants to re-invigorate Rangers, then look to sell us on when we join the European/Engligh/Atlantic/ET league and make a quickish £20m for himself - as the Bunnet did at the Terrordome.

To make money (unless he liquidates the club and sells all assets/players - in which case he'd be on the run for life) he needs Rangers to be successful on and off the field. So without being able to hear of his plans due to stock market rules my business logic dictates that this is a better option than Lloyds slowly squeezing our knackers till they pop.

  10. 27 Old Firm goals, and 21 goals in Europe. I'd say it was a pretty decent return.

He would easily be worth £12-15m these days. Often popped up to score the crucial goal and also had a record of 1 goal every 3 games for Scotland. (19 in 61).

Bear in mind that for much of the 90's Rangers were as good as the best England could produce - he could have went to any of the top teams in England and done well. His limited success at Sunderland in his early days is hardly proof to the contrary - just that he had yet to find his best form.

  11. On advice from FARE Rangers FC are to be banned from playing competitive sport of any nature (e.g. football, basketball, rowing) until the 3rd coming of Christ. According to FARE we should also be made to pay £3,000,000,000,000,000 compensation to the Gaelic Football Assoc and all fans must attend every night of the upcoming Charlie and the Bhoys tour to repent for the sin of being a Proddie or following a remotely proddie team.

  12. So the short and curlys are no fucker has a fucking clue and those that claim to do so will not divulge for fear or retribution ( which in legal talk means its a load of bullshit with no substance) so we are where we started on page 1 :)

I'm afraid takeover rules mean that no "fucker" has a "fucking clue" without being actually intimately involved in the deal. As concerned "fucking" fans we are however speculating over his plans for funding this move and looking over his previous business transactions/relationships that are in the public domain for some clue.

  13. Craig Whyte appointed to their new corporate turnaround fund board????

    Eeek.

    http://www.merchant-capital.com/recent-press/launch-of-new-fund

The Board of MHG is pleased to announce the launch of the Merchant Gemini Turnaround Fund (the “Fund”), a new corporate turnaround fund which is seeking to raise up to £50m. The Fund will be raised by Merchant Financial Funds ICC (“MFF”), an incorporate cell company domiciled in Jersey. MFF is owned as to 50% by MHG and 50% by Jordasic Investment Holdings Limited (“JIHL”), an investment management company based in Jersey. The boards of MFF and the Fund will comprise James Holmes, Chairman of MHG, and John Whittle and Michael McKean, who are based in the Channel Islands.

Merchant Capital Limited (“MCL”), a wholly owned subsidiary of MHG which specialises in corporate turnaround activities including providing turnaround funding and advice, has been appointed as the investment manager of MFF. MCL will receive an annual management fee equal to 2% of the funds under management in MFF and 20% of the annual net capital gain in the value of the fund after all costs.

MFF will establish an advisory board and has agreed to appoint Craig Whyte, the founder and chief executive of Liberty Capital, and David Roberts, CEO of Trimite Group. Messrs Whyte and Roberts are both respected turnaround specialists with over thirty successful transactions between them.

  14. Jeeso -

"the key figures at Merchant Pensum are Thordur Hlynsson, Andrew Homewood and Steinar Kristjansson, who will be working closely with Christopher Day, chief executive of Merchant House Group.

Day says: “We are excited by the potential for business offered by partnering with Pensum and creating Merchant Pensum. Our work for Craig Whyte is indicative of Merchant Pensum’s pragmatic, creative approach towards finding solutions for our clients.”

Kristjansson adds: “I am delighted to join the team at Merchant. Merchant Pensum will offer a unique opportunity for mid-market companies to access an international network of advisers and financiers and I am looking forward to working with an expert team to deliver the best possible corporate finance solutions for our clients.”

So he's "introduced" to the deal by Merchant Pensum - specialists in debt financing? I smell a Glazer style buying the club and it's assets with the club's own money. Didn't AJ confirm though in an interview that he was satisfied it didn't rely on debt/equity financing?????
