Edu made his international debut for the United States against Switzerland on October 17, 2007, and won his second cap a month later against South Africa, where he registered an assist on Steve Cherundolo's winning goal. Edu was included in the U.S. team for the 2008 Summer Olympics. He played in all three of the group matches and deputized as a center back. Edu drew a penalty in the final game of the group stage against Nigeria which Sacha Kljestan took and finished. However, the United states were knocked out of the group stage after that loss.

Its not the lack of points that worries me, its the performances. How many games out of all the ones mentioned above did we actually play well? Dundee Utd 0 - 3 Rangers (24th May 09) Hearts 1 - 2 Rangers (23rd Aug 09) only played well in the second half of this match (against a very poor Hearts team)
