If any of the youth team players were good enough, they would be in the team already. 90% of them are only there to fill jerseys, and hopefully claw back a few thousand pounds when they are eventually sold. Beattie should do the business in the SPL but is 32 now, and there are no guaruntees at that age. Jelavic is as unknown a quantity as the guys Celtic have signed from the four corners of the globe. Weiss is still a kid with no first team experience, and the hype around the boy is unreal already. It's not realistic to expect him to play like he did against Hibs week in, week out for 90 minutes.

Joe Hart has been playing out his skin at a far higher level than McGregor. That means he gets picked untill such times as McGregor goes to a proper league and shows what he can do at the top level. I agree completely that young players should be sent out on loan rather than playing reserve football. A wee point about Alan Hutton though - it took quite a while for him to fullfill the potential. For a fair amount of time he struggled to really establish himself and was in and out of the team, struggling for form and developing into a bit of a scapegoat amongst the fans. Then he suddenly made that quantum leap and really progessed as a player. Ross McCormack would definetly have done a job for us had he been given first team football and the time to develop at his own pace. The pressure, hype and expectation around Fleck really disapoints me because we seem to demand that young players come into the team and immediately do the business. Another point - folk are getting carried away big time with Weiss. He's highly rated but has played little first team football in his career. No guaruntees that a guy like that will come in and do the business consistently.

Dont know how true it this is but i heard he was with us earlier in his career and released because he was too small.
