  1. you speak as if this guy has absolutely no foundation for doubting this transfer will happen. As far as I'm concerned this transfer will not happen, and you can accuse me of basing this on anything you like, but come Sept the 1st, we'll see.
  2. a football club signs players, that's what they do. I think we have had fairly good season ticket sales this summer, we have taken in money, we are making savings on Mendes, who we were told 'we didn't "need" to sell'. The club need to communicate better, the fans have been loyal throughout the period when signings haven't been made, had we not won the leagues we had won there would still have been a solid core support- these fans deserve better than this. No signings this season is unnacceptable. I will support the club this year, but, like many others, I will not be evasive if this affects Walter Smith and the team, criticism will soar if they don't do this properly. A few seasons ago we had, what can only be called a debacle, of Walter and Bain claiming they couldn't sign anyone because they were in Italy trying to sign a big name for several million- only the gullible believed that. That was THIS REGIME, and the fans, who pay for STs etc, do not deserve to be lied to.
  3. I really think that scenario could be devastating, the narrative of the Club would be all wrong and could make quite an impact on morale. If you look at this thread, you can see the hunger the fans feel for a signing; even a rumour has fans excited. I think the Club need to seal the deal on one of these players, dare I say the fans 'deserve better'. Right, you are looking at Beattie and Jelavic, when do they actually learn what salary we are offering? I would be shocked if Beattie came up to Ibrox, saw the place, had the medical, had the tour of Murray Park, and then learned of the salary? - if so, then we are not going about this properly
  4. Walter Smith has never let The Rangers down. People that don't give him due respect forget what state the team was in when he arrived. It will be a sad day when he leaves next year, one I'm not looking forward to. Smith is a football man, and a Rangers man; he knows Rangers, and Rangers knows his ilk- strong and stoic to the end, not giving way to drama and overt emotion(The rangers way). Mr Struth would have approved.
  5. to get back to Jelavic, the club tried it's best to get him, but he is believed to be asking for money we can't pay. I hope this is the end of the matter now, and that we move on. Regarding Beattie and any other signing target, possibly Smith, I suggest we let these players see what they can do and reserve judgment.
  6. whether he has made a mistake or not, only time will tell. What cannot be disputed, however, is that he has taken a huge risk in leaving a club, where he was a main squad player, in the limelight, and widely talked about, to going to a club, where he will be consigned, mainly, to the reserves, not in the limelight, and for much of the time ignored. This will be a test of his character; it could turn out that he will miss what he had at Rangers, losing the valuable experience of playing razor edged football in front of 50,000 people every second week. Big risk.
  7. To say this is 'touch and go' doesn't quite do this thing justice. I would say that if the issue is his payment from Rapid Vienna then I am about 85% confident he is coming to us, but if the sticking point is his personal demands from us then I am 50/60% confident.
  8. If you read the Readers comments they lend credence to my view that King faces far more than a tax investigation. It has always been 'more than a tax investigation',although it seems, from reading things, that part of Dave King's defence argument is to navigate it to being a tax issue. The reversal of transactions is quite interesting, and not without a degree of mess. Sounds like the SA authorities mean business and he is playing very high yield tactics with them.
  9. I thought he was poor in the first half, when he seemed to be played slightly forward. In the second half he seemed to be in a more holding position, and I thought that suited him more, so he seemed to have a better second half.
  10. This club has never waited on Celtic, and never will. Everything Rangers does in that regard is on our terms, even when we lose or fail is on our terms; which is why we have won 2 titles in a row and got to a Uefa Cup Final despite some problems that we've had. Taking the history of our club into account, it is ignorant and offensive to even suggest that Walter Smith has waited to see what Celtic do before making any moves.
  11. well said. As is common in the north of England, a lot of fans from that kind of club are very proud of their club, and are good 'football people'. Hope they do well this season, but they might just struggle.
  12. Newcastle have a good set of fans, they like their football and that will do me. So what that they think they are a big club, good on them for having a high regard for their club. And for the Sir Bobby Robson remark by some poster: Sir Bobby was a football man, I could listen all day to his type, telling me football stories from his time in the game. Would that there were more Sir Bobby Robsons in football- the game would be a whole lot better.
  13. I agree with people who assume this thing is politically motivated. SA is probably trying to attack people like Dave King the 'democratic way', remember they are desperate to appeal to Western governments for aid and so on. The problem is that this is short sighted, as most politics is, and that country probably needs people like Dave King as much as it ever did. I suspect that if he was younger he would cut a lot of his losses and get out, but I suspect that he feels he has some leverage to contest this case, and that might just keep him in the fight. We only have to look at the last government in this country to see how you can build resentment within the confines of the 'politics of envy', with a country that has that has the problems of SA, that can be done a whole lot easier- I suspect that someone like Dave King has a queue of enemies there.
  14. Something to do with a manager more scared of losing than winning in his team set up????? Tell me, what would you think of yourself if your manager thought of you well enough to shovel the shite but didn't deem you good enough to do anything more than that? Would you hang around? Well, if my manager thought that was all I was good for, I would try and improver myself. Like those chances against Celtic with only the keeper to beat, I'd have seen to it that at least one of them went in, if I were a footballer wanting a better deal. Also, I expect people think this unimportant, but there is footage of Boyd during the Kai Johannsen minute's silence, and after I saw that a few weeks ago that was it with me. Boyd's attitude was not becoming of a Rangers player. Our club might have its difficulties, but to me, as a club, it is the best in the world- standards should not be compromised, no player is greater than this club, all are expendable, the club comes first. Stick to FF, RN in disguise?? Regarding the chances against septic, do you honestly think he meant not to score? Really good point to make. Do I think he meant not to score? I am saying he was not able to do it. He was one on one with Boruc, and had he the talent he would have scored it, he didn't. How many goals did he score at Pittodrie? how many at Tynecastle? how many at Celtic Park? How many in Europe? When you play for Rangers, and you are the top striker, then those are the places to score; McCoist did it, Prso did it, De Boer did it, why not Boyd? Can I suggest he might not be good enough. What you are saying is that Le Guen was wrong, McLeish was wrong, Smith was wrong, not to play him in crucial matches.
  15. Also, I expect people think this unimportant, but there are instances where Boyd appeared to show a lack of respect for the club. Boyd's attitude was not becoming of a Rangers player. Our club might have its difficulties, but to me, as a club, it is the best in the world- standards should not be compromised, no player is greater than this club, all are expendable, the club comes first.
  16. In Boyd we had a striker who couldn't even be risked in European matches. Please consider that for a moment, our top scorer, our Number 9, was left out of important matches. Now, tell me, why was that? Did the manager not like him, was he carrying an injury, was he risking suspension?-no, none of those, he was just, simply, not good enough. And yet, this player, who amassed goals against teams who we should be taking victory for granted anyway, is eulogised by many. Tell me, when he played against Celtic, did you ever really expect him to score?-I didn't, and yet he had his chances. Boyd's whole attitude left a lot to be desired, I was sick of his gestures; he might have been a Rangers player, but his petulant attitude was not of a Rangers player. And look at his decision in the summer- a move to Middlesborough. Has anyone ever seen the attendances at Middlesborough?- it makes you wonder what it must be like when they are in the Championship. Had I been offered 1 million a year to play for Rangers, or the choice of playing for Middlesborough, there is no choice to be made as far as I'm concerned, but the whole thing summed up Boyd in my opinion- something wrong with his whole attidude to football. I will be interested in how he does there, but wouldn't be surprised if he flopped.
  17. So, if these reports are true, Steve Davis will go for just under half the fee of Alan Hutton? I even doubt Everton would be the right club for Davis. I am 100% confident that the transfer of Steve Davis to Everton from Rangers isn't even a possibility.
  18. I honestly cannot see this happening- there is no firesale at Ibrox. If you look at the Thomson deal for instance, I would say that last season was one where he lost half a yard, hence the bookings and sending offs, and I can understand him being sold. Boyd was offered a deal, he rejected it. If the stories about McGregor are true then the club has felt itself able to turn down quite a sizeable offer and this would change the narrative about sinking ships etc. Davis will stay, period.
  19. Cannot see this happening, but I do think Moyes is playing a bit dirty here. It would probably take silly money to for us to sell him, and Everton don't buy for silly money
  20. I hope we sign this player. The last Croat didn't do bad a job, and you can always trust Croatians with a ball; they know how to play football.
  21. What do you mean, 'the midst of a nightmare'? In the last 3 seasons, this club has got to one European Final, two league titles in a row, and won two Scottish Cups. Now, I know times are hard off the park, but as a Ranger you have a duty to 'think big', in the words of the legendary Willie Waddell, and therefore I suggest you get a sense of perspective. Nearly every club in the world, barring the odd exception, is finding money a bit tight right now. Look at Ajax, a club priced out of the top European competitions they once found so easy to compete in. So please, we are not in 'the midst of a nightmare'.
  22. The 1996 Final against Hearts. That summer held so much optimism for Rangers and there was a lot happening- a very serious bid for Vialli, Gazza and Laudrup in their prime, Euro 96 about to begin, and the folowing pre-season(august96) Richard Gough had a testimonial and Laudrup ran the Arsenal defence ragged, which they didn't take too kindly to but Gough told them he does that to all the teams! That Arsenal match was Albertz first match at Ibrox. I wish at that 96 final there was more vision used to see how the club could keep this going for longer, back then it seemed those days would never end. In comparison, the club looks very different today, but not everything, we are still Champions. To get back to that final, we were brilliant that day- great match.
  23. just over 10 years ago I was invited along to a training session for one of my family, it was a boys under 12's in the south side of Glasgow. The 'training session' consisted of the boys standing outside the 18 yard box and having to kick the ball without it bouncing before it got to the goal line. I knew then that the game was up for football in this country.
