Success in modern football is all about league titles and Europe simples., times have moved on, I am sure you noticed we no longer play full teams in the Glasgow Cup which was seen as a prestigious competition with attendances to match even up in to the seventies.. Especially in the days when the likes of Clyde and Third Lanark were cup winning teams. Top teams all over Europe and especially England regularly play weaker teams in cup competitions and most of their fans respect this and understand this. Its the modern way, however you are entitled to your own view. I'm looking forward more to those "pressureless" group games in Europe you suggest than the intensity of League Cup games against minor Scottish league teams and would be more than happy to put a reserve team out in League Cup games at beginning of season in order to concentrate on league and Europe qualifiers. It's the modern way for successful teams. Ask an Arsenal fan if he believes all the recent cup wins are as important as league or European success. You'll only get one answer.

You're right, should be overlooked as a poor show and allow us to concentrate on one of our greatest achievements in winning 55. I know which I would choose. Scottish Cup and League Cup are of no importance to our future ambitions, would happily see us play our reserve team in both.

The league is the only requirement on the domestic front. European results and achievement in Europe are our standard now. We are once again one of the top forty clubs in Europe on European results alone. Lot's of folk on this thread focusing on domestic diddy cups rather than future potential European leagues where cup results domestically will be ignored or viewed as second class.

Tavernier and Goldson will probably fulfil their careers with us as two of the most valiant, valuable, virtuoso and venerable players ever to play for Rangers, true football legends. That in itself is more than an achievement than fucking off to a Burnley or Newcastle for the cash. And one with due respect to them I am sure they will respect and cherish, (and deserve to be rewarded as such by the club regarding contracts).

In twenty, thirty, forty fifty, a hundred years time and more we will still celebrate 55. We will probably still celebrate our European results under Steven Gerrard as being our most successful ever. No one will give one fuck by that time about wee diddy Scottish cups........except of course the wee diddy teams that won them and see it as the single high spot in their history.
