  2. Rangers skipper honoured by far north Gers faithful A THURSO football club founded by Rangers fans made a trip to Ibrox last weekend to present a special award to the club captain. Five committee members of Thurso Gers football club presented Lee McCulloch with the Davie Cooper Cup for being the club’s player of the year for last season. They were invited to Ibrox to present the award to the 34-year-old midfielder in the Ibrox tunnel, before he led his side to victory in the 5-1 romp over Elgin City. Thurso Gers chairman Alyn Gunn said that he and the others were delighted to be invited to Ibrox to hand over the award to a player who led by example last season. “The Davie Cooper Cup has been established since 2005 and always recognised what we thought was Rangers’ player of the year,” he said. “It was an honour to hand it over to the club captain, as any Rangers fan would have to admit that he was a stand-out, especially in the latter stages of last season. “He was also the first player to commit to the club after going into SFL 3, so we think the award couldn’t go to anyone more deserving. “The club has gone through some hard times but McCulloch’s hard work and determination is what is needed to get us back to the top.” As well as presenting the award, the committee also had a chance to meet all the players before they went on to the pitch. Thurso Gers play in a local seven-a-side league but has announced plans to field in the Caithness County League within the next five years. Due to league restraints, Thurso Rangers has had to modify its name to Thurso Gers as the Caithness Sevens League committee would not let the club use the former moniker as the team pulled out of the league in 2008. Meanwhile, the Thurso side will be playing under new manager Willie Inrig after former manager Alyn Gunn stepped into the chairman’s role, Alyn's brother Graeme takes over the Vice- Chairman role . The club received a recent boost when the Dounreay Communities Fund donated £200 for essential purchases to facilitate its return to league action after four years. Other welcome help has come from a two-year main sponsorship deal with Robbie Fraser and Korrie Mechanical and Plumbing Ltd donating the club team fleeces for the season. It has not been a quiet couple of years for the club even though it stepped back from the sevens league as the annual Davie Cooper Memorial Cup kept members busy. The club has also recently appointed a 10-man committee which will help out with all aspects – from fundraising to assisting on match days. At the club’s AGM last Friday the committee decided to continue its fundraising efforts with Cancer Research UK, the Rangers Charity Foundation and Mount Pleasant nursery in line to benefit. The Davie Cooper Memorial Cup next year is getting moved to an 11-a-side format. The committee has also decided to replace it for the sevens team with a cup named the Ally McCoist and Walter Smith Appreciation Trophy as a mark of respect for what both men have done for the Glasgow club.
  3. got to go with jig up top on sat , we were absolutely toothless on sunday at least he will challenge for balls that are in the air and be a target man . id also say play bedoya just of him as well in an up front position. 1 thing is for sure we wont win the league with kerkar and little up front!!
  4. it depends on templetons contract , how long does it have left to run , mabe they want to cash in b4 he leaves for 0
  5. Dear xxxx The renaming of the Stadium and the training park are sensitive matters but both are and will continue to be under consideration going forward. The kit deal was done by David Murray with JJB. The club received a considerable lump sum for JJB to have the rights to manufacture and distribute kit to retailers, including the Rangers shop. This deal has a period still to run or we could buy it off them. However, it would cost us a considerable amount before we even started to see any return from sales. The TV rights for our matches are owned by the SPL not the club. We would therefore, not be able to earn from having these matches on Rangers TV. I hope that this answers the points you have made and I certainly share your sentiment on what we do to the Celts on Sunday Believe me, we are looking at various income generating initiatives with friendly matches against top class opposition well down the line. In terms of share issues, this would obviously be a decision for the owner as he would be diminishing his holding in the club. Regards Gordon
  6. I emailed gordon smith after his interview before the caley game , i basically said that i was appaled by the mannerism of bbc scotland towards rangers this was his reply. Hi Alyn Thanks for your message. It was typical of Radio Scotland that they decided to speak to me in that fashion. Have you ever heard them question anyone from Celtic in that manner? Last night was a major disappointment as Maribor are ordinary. We're bringing in two midfielders in Bedoya and McKay. They're both Internationals so hopefully they'll improve the team. A striker is also a priority so we're working on that. Regards Gordon
  7. so they say its our fault , agent says its there fault . I dont no what to fucking believe anymore , i have never in my life seen a club so dis organised trying to get players in . If we want the player pay the money its simple , i understand haggling to get the price down but come to fuck know when your beaten and either put up or shut up. Im delighted that craig whyte took over the club and pulled us out the shit but we need to have at least another cb , a cm, a lm , and pacy striker and im not confident that wel get any of thae above. comon rangers lets get this sorted oot

A THURSO-based amateur football squad has been praised by Rangers’ director of football for keeping alive the memory of one of the Blues most respected players. Sevens side Thurso Rangers once again staged the annual Davie Cooper Cup at the Naver all-weather pitch on Sunday, beating Thurso Spartans 6-3. Rangers director of football Gordon Smith congratulated manager Alyn Gunn on continuing to run the cup and explained how he was a close friend of Cooper, a Rangers legend and Scotland international, who died in 1995 of a brain haemorrhage. Gunn said he was delighted that the cup was back due to popular demand from his squad. “To be honest it was a very good game. We went 0-1 down 20 seconds in but at half-time we were 4-1 up, so we turned it round and played really well,” he said. “After a slow and scrappy start we did very well to come back into it.” Thurso Rangers’ Willie Inrig took man of the match after scoring a hat-trick while his team-mate, Scott Bell, also put another three past the Spartans keeper. Thurso Spartans’ three goals came courtesy of Graham Scollay and Scott Davidson. A new trophy for the cup was sponsored this year by Jektec after the previous two cups were given pride of place at Ibrox. The pitch fee was sponsored by Numax with the strips coming courtesy of the Park Hotel football team. Referee Bob Gunn waived his match fee. Gunn also explained that he planned to take a step away from the technical area soon and hopes to find a suitable replacement to take the team forward. “We’re open for people to come negotiate with us. My preferred option would be for someone else to take over as manager and I could stay on as owner chairman,” he said. “I’d just rather someone took it over, even if it was joint managers.” Interested parties can contact the manager at: alyn_gunn@yahoo.co.uk. The Rangers fan team got together four years ago and played several seasons in the amateur sevens league on the all-weather pitch. After securing sponsors they decided to put on a cup competition in memory of left-winger Cooper, one of the most respected players in Rangers’ history. buye-editionRead the latest news in digital formatTourismHighlands and Islands Tourism AwardsGood AdviceClick here for our featured articlesTurf TalkingHorse racing tips and tricks Scottish Provincial PressOur newspapersCompany Information T&CsTerms and Conditions MagazinesHighland LifeExecutive /spp/johno'groatjournal/s?main.sport.football.article.thurso_sides_cup_tribute_to_rangers_legend_02082011.page

  12. i have seen him play on 4 occasions , twice for usa , although if edu can get a game for them and bedoya has to sit on the bench for most of the gold cup i think that says it all. Anyway my post was not to have a dig a bedoya it was to underline the fact that we are struggling for quality in impotant positions . Some people have to take the blue tinted glasses of and actually see whats in front of them , rangers have been pish poor so far , and have mcgregor to thank that the scorelines have not been more embarrising than they were. We need a partner for jela , we need a partner for davis , we need a partner for goian because boogies going. we also need a left winger. argue with that all you want but the proof is in the pudding
  13. hope so too m8 , weve never lost the comp in the last 5 years so im hoping that we will do the biz on sunday
