I'd love to see Murray go on and dominate the sport winning another 3-4 slams now, but a word of warning, Murray does turn 30 next year, and even the best of all-time haven't won much after turning 30.

Slams won after turning 30, from players that have 3+ slams in the Open Era:

    Wawrinka 2 slams, Agassi 2, Connors 1, Federer 1, Newcombe 1, Sampras, 1, Borg 0,  Edberg, 0 Becker 0, Lendl 0, McEnroe 0, Wilander, 0, Courier 0, Vilas 0, Kodes 0, Ashe 0, Kuerten, 0.

So history isn't on Andy's side when it comes to winning more slams, therefore next year is pretty crucial for him in terms of his own legacy, if he doesn't win the Aussie or French next year, then history suggests he probably won't win them at all.

If you want some good news however, Laver won all 4 (the Calendar Slam) at the age of 30, and Ken Rosewall won 4 slams after turning 33! Those two are very much anomalies though.

Stayed up late to catch this last night and I had exactly the same scorecard. 5-1 through the first 6 rounds with 4-2 Ward between 6-12. 115-112 Kovalev in the end. Kovalev won the 10th surely. Kellerman and Lederman gave it to Kovalev too, Lederman on HBO had it 116-111 Kovalev which is a bit too much the other way mind.

To give it 114-113, considering I had it 59-54 Kovalev after 6rds, (and considering Ward was on the receiving end of a 10-8 round in the 2nd) you have to give the last 6 rounds to Ward 10-9.

I just don't see that unfortunately. Be nice if Ward actually fought someone outside of California/Nevada for once too.

A bridge too far for Andy I feel. Novak has been well rested over the months with early exits etc. He is fresher, has a better record in this tourney and Andy is fucked. Pray that I am miles out of course. Their is a Slam for Milos I think. He is good enough. His wing span at the baseline is enormous. It makes up for a slight lack of mobility in comparison to the fastest out there.  Not just a server, he can ground stroke and pass. It is only errors here and there on big points that is the difference.

    Basically impossible before 2017.
First half of 2017 he has a chance up until about the French Open, as Novak is defending lots of points. After that it becomes difficult. What he can do however, is close the gap on Novak before the end of this season as he has places where he can make up points.
However... frustratingly, even though Novak's not been 100% since Wimbledon, in all three tournaments he's played that offer rankings points since then he's had some insanely jammy draws and a lot of luck.  He had 4 of his 6 opponents retire against him at the US Open om the way to the final, without them he probably wouldn't have got that far given his niggling injuries at the time.
Now here in Shanghai every seed in his half except Tsonga has already lost,  and he's playing journeymen till the semi.
Murray meanwhile has a  really tough draw.

New Novak would magically turn it on again after struggling a few days ago. Most of the top seeds in his half have already lost and he's already had 2 walkovers.  I'm starting to think there's no way this cunt isn't winning this thing now.

Frightening thing is Murray aged 14 knew the LTA are a bunch of incompetent asshats and left to go training in Spain. The LTA themselves haven't produced anyone of note since god knows when.

Fuck me Djokovic is lucking out. Only played 5 sets and he's in the 4th round after Youzhny retires after 5 games. Fuck sake.

First time in his life Murray is now the odds on favourite to win a slam.
Big pressure on him now. Novak out. Top seed in his half, Wawrinka,  out. Still some dangerous players in his half mind.  Kyrgios,  Del Potro, Tsonga,  etc.
If he gets to the final it will likely be Raonic or Fed.
Hope he can handle the pressure. He's in a no win situation really,  he loses people call him a choker. He wins and people will say he only won cause Novak wasn't there.

Difference between Murray and Novak is Murray is raging 100% of the time, whereas Novak does this gentleman act when he's winning (applauding opponent etc).
When he's under pressure you see the dislikable attitude and behavior of the 'old Novak' of years ago return though.

True, but Goffin isn't exactly as physical monster the same way as Djokovic, Murray, Ferrer are. In fact he's a bit of a powderpuff.
I doubt he has any sort of physical edge over Edmund in a 5 set match. Which might be an issue, especially on clay.

Back when Murray was about 19 and beat prime Federer in Cincinnati in 2006 I think that was. He only lost 5 matches that year, 4 to Nadal and 1 to Murray.
That put me off him a bit as well tbh. He's not as direct when it comes to being a bad loser as say Serena, but he can get pretty salty when he loses. The losses to Del Potro in the US Open final and to Djokovic when he cames from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at the US Open semis come to mind, you could see in the press conferences he was shooting out all kinds of subtle insults.
IIRC he pretty much directly said Djokovic closed his eyes and hit lucky shots, and was a twat to the umpire throughout the Del Potro match.

It's frustrating to see Andy so close to Novak, yet at times looks miles away when he folds.
I have enjoyed watching Andy since he came on the tour, and we can take it for granted that now he gets to slam finals and semis, wins masters series and we are disappointed if he comes up short.
It's too easy to forget the dross that was before him, and no doubt the dross that will come after him.
Henman aside, ( rusedski is a plastic brit to me)no player since Perry has done anything remotely successful in their career.
We should enjoy the remaining years of his career at the top, as well as the others before the clock catches up with them.

Murray is making Djokovic look good at the minute. The fact he's lost to Djokovic 7 times in a row is affecting him badly. He just beats himself. Novak doesn't even have to do much, just wait for an error.

PLG wasn't given a chance though was he? I'm fed up with PLG being the standard bearer of what a failed manager is simply because he only got 30 games in charge before wee Barry decided he didn't like the diet he got put on.

What Warburton did with Brentofrd over the last 2 years is a much greater success than McInnes with Aberdeen.
Prior to that Warburton was in a DoF & Development roles while Derek McInnes was establishing a club record of 15 consecutive losses with Bristol.
So I can see your logic of Derek having an extra 4 years of failed management experience being a decisive factor.............
