Based on what I’ve seen he has heart, physicality, the speed and ability to burst past a player and get to the byline or charge into the box to name but 4. He’s no worse at defending either. Lad deserves an extended run in the team to show what he can do IMO

Lundstram played well as well.. wasnt the best opposition, but he didnt put a foot wrong, really.

What we do is  drop our best defender and bring in a guy who has barely kicked his arse and by fuck it showed.

What is the point of pressing the full backs forward to generate crosses that an organised defence will lap up for hours on end? The problem tonight was a complete lack of imagination and guile. Have we stopped playing one-twos or passes round the corner for a man to run on to?
I’d certainly give Patterson a game or two and, as for left back, Barisic has been atrocious in every game he’s played so far. That lad from Dundee United (Robson) that scored against us would be far more productive.
We’re just passing the ball around for a few minutes before asking Tavernier or Barisic to send in a cross which invariably is cleared to someone like Davis or Goldson and recycled. And repeat. And repeat.
Maybe three at the back with two guys hugging the touch line is the answer but repeating an approach which is not working is not perseverance, it is stubbornness to the point of stupidity.
We need to be smarter than “full back sends in cross” ad nauseum.

That clown that played with the tarriers had barasic well sussed both legs, get tight and make him try beat you. Nothing worse than seeing him have to try go by a man.
Also the less spoke about his bravery the better, abysmal the amount of 70/30s in his favour he lost tonight. 

This is a bit of a myth.
Barisic is capable of whipping in what looks like cracking balls but a lot of the time there’s no cunt on the end of them, therefore they ain’t cracking deliveries.

I am. The amount of poor crosses in a game is astonishing. 
Barisic was pretty poor for parts of last season, as was Tav. Because we win the league at a canter doesn’t prevent those two from criticism.
If they can’t beat the first man with a ball or place it on the head of our strikers then they are of little use as neither are great defenders. Never have been.
Even when firing in all cylinders the general play is (and was last year) incredibly predictable. Give it Goldson or Davis to recycle to the attaching full backs who in turn fail to beat a man or get a cross beyond the first defender.
we have become a one trick pony.
Rinse and repeat.
Needs changed in my opinion.
Bassey might not be the finished article or answer but you can see he offers something COMPLETELY different to the team as he steamrolls folk when charging forward.
 
 

Doesn't make a difference who's dropped for Friday, the first big game and they'll all be back in irrespective of how well their replacements play against Dunfermline.

Thought Barisic looked miles off the pace tonight, and also thought his performance in general was very poor.

Barasic especially has got it too easy on here for too long. Big bassey would kick fuck out him just to header a baw 

I think another poster nailed it in another thread. 55 was this teams Everest, especially those who have been with Gerrard from the start. Our performances in the Scottish Cup after winning the league, and the fact our players were visibly paralytic 48 hours before a winnable last 16 Europa League tie says a lot. 
It was clear our midfield needed revamped if we were to be a Champions League outfit this season. Arfield’s legs are gone and Davis is being asked to do too much without Jack. Our answer was Lundstram on a free, and we got what we deserved tonight. 

His tactics ain’t working that’s for sure, fed up seeing plenty possession without any result

Arfield wasn't really doing anything of note. He stuck out like a sore thumb in needing to be subbed. We really are struggling without Kamara and Jack. 
Don't even know when Jack will be back but we need him pronto. 

Filip Helander is our best defender. 
Connor Goldson has been awful to start this season. I like big Leon but he's not at the required level for the CL. 
Gerrard needs to stop fucking around with the GK and CB positions. McGregor, Goldson and Helander has to start every single game where available. We are conceding absolute fucking shiters and the defence has to build confidence again and quickly.
If he wants to make changes it has to be Patterson for Tav or Bassey for Barisic given how absolutely fucking horrible they have both been.
