I have to be frank, I know little of Nelson Mandela apart from the films and his release after a long time in prison, much to the joy of black South African's.
I've noticed that his extended family is insanely rich now though while his country is still a dump.
Honestly I'm getting a bit f88ked off with this unofficial applause for one cause or another at the football because I'm not informed enough on the issue to either know what it's for or why I should join in.
There is far bigger and more important causes in the world to highlight and arguably more important people yet no one seems to have the slightest interest in them so to be honest I feel that these things are somewhat a crock of shit to appease those whom have their own agenda or misguided beliefs.
I want to watch my team win in a manner befitting of Rangers, I don't wish to be applauding for a different cause every week either because I'm ignorant on the subject or because someone else thinks I should find it important enough to agree with them.
I'm not saying that for many of these things are fair enough but you have to wonder does the mark of respect filter through to those that's important to? How many that joined in actually know why they are? It all seems very contrived and forced, it cheapens the important ones the more causes we add to them.

For me the Mandela applause was much like the card protest,...a lot of people joining in while knowing very little about the reality of the subject in hand. Going along with those that sat near them balancing "their" opinion based upon by who seemed most aggressive and who was in the majority.
Our supports beliefs, core values and opinions appear in mass to be as logical and as informed as an "x-factor audience".
If I'm right in what I say then I fear we're going in 'one-direction', a country full of simpletons merely concerned with popular opinion and without the ability nor desire to think freely, about what's right/important.
I personally abstained from the Mandela applause as I do not see the relevance of it at a Scottish football match when a minutes silence cannot be held for the war dead of this country and others at all our grounds. I personally know little about Mandela other than the popular movie type reading of history we are spoon fed about the man - I have noticed even his extended family is insanely rich now while his country is still a mess. He may or may not be worthy of my respect and I freely admit I'm ignorant on the specifics of his life but I think to applaud the man without the knowledge required to justify the action is stupidity of the highest order and often leads to people becoming 'icons of righteousness' whom are not worthy of that tag.

I've just been on to Jack Irvine - and he says that ESPN is so toxic, that you're going to need a full rebrand.
    How about this?...

Ok, so here's how the conversation went:
GB: "Hi Fox. Fancy doing a show tonight?"
    Fox: "You do it GB"
GB: "Whit? What could I do a show on?"
Fox: "Anything. Something you're interested in, that you think the listeners would be interested in too"
GB: "Oh you mean like the ..."
Fox: "No, not the Sponsors' Fund"
    GB: "Damn!"
So I wracked my brain, and finally I thought of something that I'm interested in, that you're all interested in too.
    And that subject is...
    RangersMedia
So tune in tonight for the first (and maybe last) edition of "RM Review - with govanblue and you too!"

    Thats me joined up.
The show is so much better now than it was when i first tuned in. Hardly any swearing, no people talking over one another, more structure.
Tweeted them saying so the other day.
Username is the same on here if anyone wants a chat!
