Had a search to see if there's a general type thread about European game visits but couldn't find anything, feel free to move if there is one. TLDR; It's a long spiel but a bunch of photo's of the game, scroll down if you can't be arsed.
My partner is Romanian so we go back a lot but I always forget to check what games are on before booking flights. This time I was in luck as CSA Steaua were at home in a derby cup game against Rapid Bucharest and it's short walk to the stadium. My partner's family aren't into football so they don't really understand the situation either but when you read up on their background and what went on the last 20 years it's pretty confusing.
I didn't book tickets till 2 days before, it was easy enough booking e-tickets but they asked for either a passport number or a national ID number, it looked like you could just enter any old shite. 4 tickets for about a total of £26!
From what I understand and talking to some regulars next to me it goes like this, much of it may be wrong depending on who you ask but it's what I've picked up from various people and sites, wikipedia is all over the place as it depends on who's point of view it's taken from:
- UEFA says there should be no state funded teams. Steaua Bucharest are/were an army team.
- The club we played and were beaten by now no longer exist and instead "bought" by another organisation, called Steaua Bucharest
- Gica Becali, a peasant to riches property magnate goes from shareholder to owner - he ends up in prison for 5 years for corruption. He apparently has a team of thugs involved in all sorts of shenanigans including football. He has real estate all over Bucharest and was involved in politics at one point too. Basically a dodgy bastard
- The army team (the ministry of national defence) Steaua Bucharest take Steaua Bucharest to court claiming their ownership, colours and titles were not legal and not entitled to play in the Stadionul Ghencea. This is the South (Sud) team on the same site and location we played Steaua when we lost 2-0.
- Becali's "team" lost their case and renamed themselves to FCSB Steaua and moved to the "national stadium" Arena Națională. The Nord team
- There is ongoing legal disputes which were meant to be concluded this year but aren't yet.
- CSA Steaua reformed in 2017 and start in league 4
- CSA Steaua moves into the newly built Stadionul Steaua stadium (formerly the Stadionul Ghencea).
It's a nice stadium, it looks much bigger than it's 33000 capacity and creates a really good atmosphere. They have facilities for rugby, basketball and athletics and it's hub for local sports.
I found it funny when we got home our match wasn't finished yet, realising after reading a few posts it was delayed because of pyro What a load of pish.
The match was shite, CSA didn't look any worse than Rapid considering the gap between them but the standard was really poor, we spent most of the game watching what the ultras were doing. The CSA ultras were louder in the first half, Rapid louder in the second half including a bunch of petards thrown lasting 5 minutes after the start of the second half for some reason, the keeper just kept to the 18 yard line. It was a half full stadium but a lot of noise. A lot of the flags are for local gangs like "the roosters" but it's actually a very safe area. There were 1500 cops, the gendarmerie were mostly in riot gear expecting trouble but seemed friendly from what I saw.
I'm sure I saw a big flag at the corner that seemed to be a Union flag but can't get any more information about it

I feel sorry for him as he seems a nice bloke and keep thinking he's maybe suffering from a lack of match fitness and confidence but I have no hope he'll come good. I think we'll pay him off like we usually do, maybe a loan first but he won't have a future with us

Can't believe we're actually playing football now. Been the same all season but that first half wasn't acceptable

It's going to take a wee bit longer than a game against hibs. Sparta are in form right now, we have none and also a bunch of shite players

McCausland on for Dessers or Lammers, or both of them
-
I hope they prove me wrong in this game and i'm repeating what we already know but it's a disgrace we spent money on dessers and lammers, they can't pass a ball a few yards

Harsh booking that one.
Can't remember what the numbers are but the team should have been well aware of the number of bookings that ref has given out in his last few games

What a fucking mess we are right now, just poor players.

fuck all wrong with that challenge from raskin

I get they think we're the most hated club in Scotland but I never understand how there can be so much hatred to mock the deaths of people that go to a football game. I can only understand it by what I always think, humans are fucking stupid.
I was brought up not far from Markinch, went on a supporters bus from Glenrothes and it wasn't spoken about much then other than the first game after new year. The fact it's used as some "wind up" today and increasingly so is fucking horrific, these horrible cunts should be forced to watch the effect it had on families and make them wonder if it was them, their children or own family.
I remember shitholes like parkhead, tynecastle and for some weird reason brockville, looking back they were all deathtraps that took too long till regulated.

I wonder if Clement is now realising how bad both Dessers and Lammers are

Direct, no soundbites, honest, seems to have an understanding of the expectations at Rangers and what it takes to win in Scottish football.
I like that he wants us to be the most physical side in Scotland as well, that you have to win the battle first and foremost, then you can play.
Plus he says it like it is "we play shit sideways passes in our own half"

Sounds like I'm complaining but we should have finished that in the first half. Good performance, our pressing is much more organised now and lot more energy
