  5. Rangers midfielder Arnold Peralta spoke with Fredy Nuila of LaPrensa, a Honduran newspaper, in the build up to this weekend’s match with Hibernian. Peralta has been receiving extra attention of late given his agent’s public announcement that Peralta is in search of a new club. Peralta seems to believe that Ally McCoist had scapegoated him & that was why he had only made five appearances this season. “The former coach had something personal with me. Sometimes football is unfair. I have ability to play here.” “I had no problem with [McCoist]. There was a game we lost against one of the strongest teams in the league [the 3-1 loss to Hibs].” “I made a mistake and it killed me. That hurt because this is about a team, not just a player.” “Since then, the coach left me out of the lineup. I do everything in training. But I do not know what else to do.” courtesy of SNS Legion Catracha, who covers Honduran football, believes that McCoist’s issues with Peralta went beyond the performances on the pitch. Legion Catracha told Rangers Report that, “given the problems at Ibrox, McCoist probably didn’t appreciate how ‘relaxed’ Peralta appeared on his Twitter & Instagram accounts.” Peralta does not see much changing now that Kenny McDowall has replaced McCoist. He told Nuila, “The coach we had is now gone & was replaced with his assistant. But, things remain the same.” “Unfortunately I have not been involved in recent months, but players are exposed to that. Right now I’m going through bad times.” Peralta has not played since the September loss to Hibs & at this point is not even included on the subs bench. When asked whether new management would lead to a second chance, Peralta replied, “They [McCoist & McDowall] have the same system. On Saturday we left [for the match with Hibs] and they did not take me.” courtesy of RFC Peralta was more complimentary about the support he gets from his Rangers teammates – “Yes, my teammates always ask me what happened if I have a problem with the coach.” So what now for the Honduran? Peralta mentioned options in Costa Rica, the United States & Spain but that they were “mid-table teams.” Legion Catracha believes that the interest will be limited, especially since Peralta missed out on the World Cup due to injury. “He may go back to Honduras or even MLS, where Toronto was linked to him before. But I have heard no solid rumours of where he may go. His chances were really hurt when he picked up the injury before the Word Cup.” Nuila asked Peralta if he was desperate – which would be understandable given his current situation with Rangers. Peralta replied, “I am calm. I have much to give whether it is here or elsewhere.” “I have not played because the manager had something personal against me.” “I keep training & hopefully will be given the opportunity to leave in January.”

  10. A factor that seems to overlooked is ok we are playing posties ,joiners etc.Whose chances of really getting noticed and escaping from their full time jobs is if they are seen to excel is really only when they are on the telly which most Rangers games are in one form or another ,so they play their arses off against us.Added to the fact they want to beat us to gain the kudos too. Just a thought tin hat on.
  11. Baraclough named Motherwell boss Scottish Premiership side Motherwell have named Englishman Ian Baraclough as their new manager to replace Stuart McCall, who resigned on 2 November, the club announced. "After a rigorous interview process, Baraclough was the outstanding candidate, with the Board hugely impressed by his vision and plans for both on and off the field," Motherwell said on the club website. The 44-year old enjoyed a 20-year playing career with the likes of Leicester City, Wigan Athletic and Queens Park Rangers, before finishing at Scunthorpe United in 2008. He then went on to manage Scunthorpe in the English lower divisions before taking over at Sligo Rovers and leading them to their first Irish title in 35 years. "I am delighted and find myself in a privileged position. I've done some research into the history of the club and I know how well the football club has done, certainly over recent years. It will be a hard task to take over from Stuart but one I'm very excited to take up," Baraclough told the Motherwell website. "Short term my aim is to keep this club in the Premiership. There is no easy way to go about that and it is a situation that hasn't been at this football club in a few years but it doesn't scare me." Baraclough edged out Dutch former Fir Park defender Mitchell van der Gaag in the Lanarkshire club's recruitment process. He will be at Fir Park on Saturday to watch his new team play bottom club Ross County, but Kenny Black will remain in the caretaker role he has filled since McCall left. McCall, 50, quit last month after a run of five straight defeats left the club second from bottom. A former player with Rangers and Scotland, McCall had led Motherwell to second in the table behind champions Celtic last season
  12. Ally McCoist quits as Rangers boss: Bookies install Terry Butcher as favourite to take over at Ibrox FORMER Ibrox skipper Butcher pulled out of the running for the vacant Motherwell job yesterday and is now hot favourite to take over at Rangers. FORMER captain Terry Butcher has been installed as the bookies' favourite to replace Ally McCoist as manager at Rangers . Paddy Power were offering odds of 11/4 on the former Inverness and Hibernian becoming the next permanent manager at Ibrox. News that McCoist was to stand down broke shortly after 1pm less than 24 hours after his former team mate Butcher had suddenly ruled himself out of contention for the vacant Motherwell job. Butcher’s sudden change of heart over the Fir Park hot seat raised a few eyebrows. But today it heightened expectations he will be the next man in permanent charge at Rangers. The ex-England captain spent four years at Ibrox from 1986 winning three Premier League titles and two League Cups under Graeme Souness. Others on the bookies list include Stuart McCall (3/1), Billy Davies (6/1), Brian Laudrup (8/1) and Lee McCulloch (16/1). Longer shots include a return to Govan for Graeme Souness, Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes, David Weir, Alex McLeish and Walter Smith who is 50/1 to return for a third spell.
  13. SNS SHOCKED Rangers staff were told Christmas has been cancelled yesterday as the financially stricken club continues a slash costs across the business. Saturday’s 1-0 win over Cowdenbeath - the lowest crowd for a home league game in 28 years. And the extent of the current cash crisis engulfing the club became even more evident at lunchtime yesterday when non-executive director Derek Llambias sent a circular to all non football employees to reveal that they will not be receiving their traditional seasonal gift from the club and that the yearly festive bash at Ibrox has been scrapped. Llambias was appointed to the board as Mike Ashley’s axe man and has put in place an extensive programme of austerity of cost cutting which recently included a raft of job losses. Against the gloomy backdrop - and with Ashley’s emergency loans being used to keep the club in business - he has decided it would neither be affordable nor ethical Rangers to treat what’s left the workforce in the time honoured fashion. Last year all workers received a voucher worth £50 for Marks & Spencer as well as a free Christmas knees-up on the company at in one of the stadium’s corporate suits. But it’s now believed some workers are organising their own office party instead. SNS One source said: “We were given the news in an e-mail from Llambias and it’s another big blow to morale inside the club. We were told that these measures were being taken ‘due to the current financial position’. Llambias said it was ‘regrettable’ while thanking the staff for their hard work and commitment during what he described as ‘this difficult time’. “The Christmas party has also been cancelled. It just shows what a mess this club is now in.” Rangers last night declined to make any official comment but a source close to the board said: “This is a consequence of the club’s current financial situation. Cuts have to be made across all departments. “If just one job can be saved by pulling the plug on a Christmas party then so be it.”
  14. Recalled from Vale Park last month amid concerns over Newcastle United’s ever-increasing injury problems, Remi Streete would undoubtedly benefit from his next loan move being to Scottish giants Glasgow Rangers. Having conceded 13 goals in 15 games so far in the Scottish Championship, Rangers may have the second best defence in the second tier but with Hearts shipping just eight there is certainly room for improvement. And while the league may not be the best showcase of their need to improve things at the back their recent 3-2 defeat to Alloa in the Challenge Cup – a game in which the lowly Championship side rallied late to score three times in the final 19 minutes – demonstrated a certain defensive frailty. With a Scottish League Cup meeting with Celtic just around the corner the need for an improvement is pretty urgent and with little money left in the club coffers options are limited at best. Yet with Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley buying a 10 per cent stake in the club, it could be high time for Gers boss Ally McCoist to make the most of this budding partnership. The Rangers boss has already outlined plans to do just that too in a recent interview where he outlined the fact that discussions have already been held with Derek Llambias the new chief executive at Ibrox and a man who worked under Ashley at St James’ Park. “I’ve spoken to Derek a few times and he’s positive and keen to help,” McCoist said. “I’ve been for a look at some of Newcastle’s young players already. “I cover as many games as I can. We’re looking all over the place.” Streete would represent the ideal defensive addition and at 21 the tough-tackling stopper would undoubtedly benefit from playing in the intensified atmosphere at Rangers, which is a far cry from the tame surrounds of Port Vale. A move to Scotland did wonders for Paul Dummett back in the early years of his career at the club with the Magpies man gaining valuable first team experience during a short stay at St Mirren. And with Ashley owning a stake in both sides it could prove to be a shrewd bit of business for all concerned while also helping Newcastle nurture a young talent who may yet have a future at St James Park.

  17. JONNY McFARLANE believes that Rangers can learn a lot from Hearts and their appointment of a Director of Football and says that the former SFA youth supremo could be the perfect fit at Ibrox. Jonny on Mark Wotte: "With experience as Technical Director at clubs including Feyenoord, no-one is currently better placed to implement a long term strategic vision." WATCHING Hearts steamroller the Championship it’s easy to focus the blame on Rangers shortcomings without analysing why the Gorgie club are proving to be so successful. Hearts were seen as a basket case by many in their own support when Anne Budge walked in and fired club legend Gary Locke on day one. Supporters were sickened at his treatment and felt that in trusting Craig Levein as Director of Football she was making a terrible mistake. It’s now clear that too many allowed Levein’s bullish personality and the debacle of his 4-6-0 formation to cloud their judgement. If you analyse the current success of Dundee United it appears that many of the changes that the former Scotland boss implemented in his time are strong reasons for their current success. Despite his failures in the Scotland job, Levein has a strong CV in Scottish football and is the kind of single minded personality that can give a club direction. He has overseen a holistic approach that sees all levels of Hearts football operation in harmony, singing from the same hymn sheet. This is exactly the sort of management needed at Rangers and if recent press stories are to be believed there is a strong candidate waiting in the wings. Mark Wotte has seen every single youth player of that Scotland has and knows them inside out. With experience as Technical Director at clubs including Feyenoord, no-one is currently better placed to implement a long term strategic vision. If the current financial reality is that Rangers are to become a club that rears its own players then who better than a man who has been at the cutting edge of young talent in this country for the last three years? There needs to be an independent approach that eschews ‘jobs for the boys’ and ensures the faces that populate Murray Park are there simply because they are the best available to do the job. That requires a strong personality that has confidence in his vision– something Wotte would never be accused of lacking. In a club famous for its wingers like Willie Henderson, Davie Cooper and Brian Laudrup, Wotte’s insistence on 4-3-3 (all SFA under age international teams play the formation) would help reinforce core club values and help bring on a new level of technical talent at Ibrox. With a significant yearly academy investment and only Lewis Macleod and Fraser Aird to show for it, someone needs to get their teeth into the Murray Park conveyer belt and start to rework its engine. The Dutchman is the perfect candidate and surely his football philosophy is something everyone at Ibrox could unite behind.
