Out of curiosity, is there a place in the VB for someone who isn't a Unionist, a Monarchist, and not interested in defending traditions such as the Orange Order?
Are there many on your forum that don't stand for these things?

I don't think I could have summed it up any better myself, to be honest.
The Founding Father headstone, the money raised are great, and I'm sure there's a load more that I don't know about.
But this political side that they are passionate about is something I try to remove from my support of Rangers as far as possible. It's of no interest to me, and I can't stand those who define it as part of your support for the club. I fully understand some want to defend their traditions, but I'm more interested in the way the club moves forward. I also believe there are some parts of the past that should stay there.
I also can't help but feel just a sense of aggression from some, and in all honesty, I see exactly why TWB makes stupid comments in order to reel someone in.
But there, I'm off to do some proper wringing of hands now whilst bouncing about on Followfollow.

For those making daft points about "Yorkie" and the likes you really are missing the point. And you're quite clearly deliberately missing the point.
Call it "the offended bus" or whatever the fuck you want, but I fail to see why this doesn't show that Green is old fashioned, out of touch, and just another day of making a mockery of the club. As The Godfather said near the start of this thread this has become the "Charles Green Show" with the rest of the club taking a backseat. And it's becoming rather unhealthy, and I fail to see how Green is right for the long term future of the club.

Where the OP may be exaggerating, it's not about whether Green means to be racist or not. It's quite frankly ridiculous for a CEO of one of Britain's biggest clubs to come out with such a statement.

It's quite simple mate, my fringe doesn't go down as far as my eyes, so it's not particularly difficult.
    Cheers for your concern though!

I'm afraid Green's old fashioned mindset does not apply to everyone. I'm not personally offended by it, but I know some that will be. Look at the OP for example, you might wish to dismiss him as an "idiot" but if his sentiment is genuine then offence has been caused. Charles Green can't choose who is offended by his comments, and neither can you.
Who's offended or not by this aside, I simply cannot understand why some cannot understand what a PR own goal this is.

Oh, and the Remembrance weekend display was a bit extravegant, and detracts from what 11 November is really about in many regards.
Tin hat on for that one.

As long as there is groups with their own agenda's, the fans will never be united.

Agreed. But there is also a sizeable minority (if not actual majority) that just don't care for the political and religious aspect other than the fact our club is suffering because of it. That seems to annoy VB people.
While the OP is trying hard to fight against it, VB continually come across as PUL is the only 'true' fan and others are simply 'not getting it'.
When in actual fact, most get it but just don't want it. However, if you are from a PUL background I can see how this apathy would seem like an attack from within.

I've not expected some to challenge me, and they have, with some valid points and I'd say it was a fair enough discussion.
I know fans won't leave their culture and traditions behind, and in many ways I respect that, but I really don't agree with that many of them at all. I don't particularly want to get involved in a discussion about that though, as it would lead us down a whole different route.
I just believe if the VB believe defending those traditions means only appealing to certain fans, I believe that's a bit sad, and a bit backwards, and I've got very little time for an organisation that would turn away great Bears' because they don't fit said mould. Could the VB be a bit more inclusive whilst still defending these traditions, but taking into consideration the views of a different "brand" of Rangers fan? It could most certainly be done, but it's clear they have no plans of doing this, and that's what I've challenged.

I will apologise now as I know you're not an official part of the Vanguard Bears', so it's not as if you're saying anything on behalf of the group officially, so it's more really been a conversation and you've been good enough to amuse me with it! Just one more thing for tonight (I had no intention of staying up this late, the powers of the internet!) I don't believe it is true that it's not my religious/political views that are the problem. It was mentioned earlier in the thread that part of being a VB was being a member of a PUL, or at least sympathise with them, I don't, and take no interest in them at all (another subject for another day, no doubt!), so therefore surely my political viewpoint does come into play as I therefore wouldn't be accepted.
I can't help but feel this is pretty backwards, and what I personally believe is that these sort of policies are something that should be left behind when it comes to bringing the club forward. Political/religious backgrounds shouldn't be forgotten (and all should be accepted) but they should be put to one side when it comes to bringing the club forward and adding to the great institution we already are.

Yes, I haven't lived in Glasgow for 20 years, I haven't attended every home game for the past 6 years, I haven't seen what traditions are, I haven't met countless Rangers fans who have similar traditions (and countless who don't). I think I pretty much know the script by now thanks.
I think our club can be more. I don't challenge anyone's political or religious views, but can our club be built stronger without a heavy reliance on either? I believe it can.

So how can VB possibly proclaim to be defenders of Rangers fans if they exclude people who they know to support Rangers?
'We defend history, tradition and the Rangers support........apart from some of them'.
  17. TravelingWilBEARy liked a post in a topic by Gaz92 in Vanguard Bears - just who are they?
It's difficult to take their principle of defending Rangers fans seriously if it only appeals to a certaim brand of Rangers fan, and what I can see from the outside, is that they barely give a toss about someone who doesn't fit this mould.
