I really do wonder if some folk on here have ever been to Ibrox let alone are true fans.
Some of the hatred towards our team is getting ridiculous.

For the vast majority of fans Walter Smith is an iconic Rangers legend we can all relate to and identify with. With that in mind, to have him write the foreword makes the book readily accessible for most and is a real honour for the authors/editors of the book.
I don't deny the positive aspects of Charles Green's time at the club but I don't think he's quite as credible in comparison. Rightly or wrongly he splits opinion and I'd rather avoid such conflict when looking for the benefits a well written foreword offers. Nevertheless I'm sure Charles will enjoy reading the book as much as anyone as it discusses the last year in a balanced, open fashion.

The thing with Walter is he is not a business man but you can guarantee that whatever decisions he makes will be in the best interests of the club. Now this does not mean he will get everything right but his heart Bleeds Blue and won't be driven by financial gain.

I would love to see it sung in its original form but in Roman run Scotland that simply isn't going to happen. The only word needing changed is Fenian. We all know what it means but since WE allowed it to be changed to mean catholic we have no choice but to play by the rules.

The police are not arresting fans of other teams for this line therefore there is no justification or current legislation that would allow them to arrest Rangers fans for singing this line.
Football is about offending the opposition not buttering them up and many in our support would do well to remember that.

i agree boss, but i also agree with the original point you challenged - it needs to stay "we are the billy boys". Making wholesale changes will just never take off, far too many fans, including msyelf, just can't get on board with the wishy wash suggestions that include "rangers boys" "they tried to kill us but our club will never die, we are the billy billy boys"....
what we need to remember is that this song is engrained into the minds of fans like us for years, actually learning, remembering and sticking to new lyrics is a long shot. I think changing the offending line is doable, but changes beyond that i just don't think it will ever happen.

I already have access to the requisite legislation and can find the case law we need in order to look at what is and is not acceptable, not to mention I can keep my cool in high pressure situation (You have to when 15 strangers watch your every move in a Jury Trial.) What we need to do here as the threads have said is bombproof the lyrics so they are beyond legal challenge, while retaining the effect we desire, the roar. We are also well aware that it is not the words Fenian (and Orange) that are sectarian in themselves and therefore illegal but the context in which they are placed. To that we have to look at Section 38 of the Criminal Justice and Licensing (Scotland) Act 2010 in order to make sure the lyrics would pass that challenge too cause you KNOW that some bastards will try it.
We have managed it will Follow Follow and I see no reason why we can't manage it with the Billy Boys either.
I look forward to being involved in any way in this endeavour, if I am allowed to be a part of it.
