  1. One player who I dont think has been mentioned is Lubanski who played for Gornik. He played at Ibrox just at the time that Jim Baxter came back and I think not so slim Jim scored for us that night, but we were well beaten and Lubanski was stand out.
  2. Keevins is trying to be controversial and get angry Rangers fans to call him on Radio Clyde and boost the shows ever dwindling ratings.
  3. Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread. It would seem that the 5 most popular performances from opposition are (I think); Beckenbauer Cruyff Del Piero Mendieta Riquelme Funnily enough not one vote for Jimmy Jonstone. I am sure that will please 1st Jan 1994 no end LOL!!!
  4. Oh well ,time to go to bed now that the children are here.Hope you grow up sooner than later.
  5. Can I assume that everyone is in agreement about Jimmy Jonstone then as there are no dissenters. We really are a wonderful group of fans who are not spiteful like some others and cannot appreciate good footballers when they see one in a blue jersey. Thats why we are the people.
  6. You might be right LOL!! All my Rangers books are up in the loft just now and cant get access to them.
  7. No JCB ,this game was in the early seventies and I think we may have won 1-0.
  8. I can remember that strip but its in my mind that it was red and white. Not sure ED
  9. Thats right ED and its interesting to see the younger bears picking recent players and the older bears picking players going way back. Us older bears were lucky to see the truly great players Unlucky young bears!!! LOL!!!
  10. Hi Ed I told Clan Macrae that you would pick Puskas, Di Stefano and Eusebio. I know you well LOL!!!
  11. I have been following Rangers since the early to mid sixties and since that time I have so many wonderful Rangers players grace the famous blue jersey. Recently I was in a conversation at work about the best players to have played against Rangers at Ibrox . Here is my top five which will I am sure be completely different from your top five. I also give my reasons for choosing these players. Franz Beckenbauer= The most skillful centre back I have ever seen. He played against us five times and I first saw him at Ibrox in a uefa cup tie and he just strolled around the park passing the ball with the outside of his foot all night long. A fantastic performance that night and Bayern knocked us out.We did however get our own back a couple of seasons later and Colin Stein gave the Kaiser the biggest runaround of his life in the semi final ,forcing him to toe the ball into the centenary stand more than once that wonderful night. Never the less Franz Beckenbauer was majestic the first time he played at Ibrox. Alan Ball- Bally came to Ibrox with Arsenal to play a friendly in the early seventies and his midfield play was an absolute joy to watch. He had boundless energy and was a pocket dynamo his passing and first touch were superb that day and the Rangers midfield struggled to cope with the wee ginger guy with the white boots on.We just couldn't close him down. he gave a midfield master class that day. Johann Cruyff- Like Beckenbauer Cruyff was one of the best players to have ever graced the world stage and I was again very fortunate to have seen him play at Ibrox when an impressionable young teenager from Kinning Park. All I can say is if you weren't there that night when we played Ajax in the super cup then you missed something truly special. Cruyff had everything -elegance ,style, pace and a fantastic football brain. Mario Kempes - The Argentinian world cup winner played at Ibrox for Valencia in the early 80s I think. He was a striking figure with his flowing black hair and he had skill, pace and power. Kempes was superb for Valencia and scored at Ibrox to knock us out the cup. Frank Riykard Played at Ibrox in a pre season tournament with Ajax after they had won the european cup.I think he was just 18 at the time and he just oozed class and ran the show from mid field ,it was no surprise to me that he went on to sign for AC Milan and played in one of the greatest club sides ever with Van Basten and Gulit. Well thats my five ,but I would also like to mention one other player who I know will not please some on RM. Jimmy Jonstone - Jinky tormented Ranger defences for a good five years and his ability to twist and turn his way past defenders was astonishing (and painful to watch) at times. A wonderful Scottish winger.Jinky got introduced to John Grieg who went to left back. Griegy introduced Jinky to the running track around Ibrox. He was never as effective against Rangers again. I happened to end up working with wee Jinky when we were both at Lafferty Builders in the 1980s, but thats a story for another time. Remember its not about the greatest players who came to Ibrox its about the best performances from players. For example Messi played at Ibrox but did he have a world class performance that night? Over to you.
  12. Thats right, his father was in the luftwaffe and was shot down and taken prisoner in Northern Ireland during the second world war. His dad watched many Will Hay films during his years of captivity and he passed his love of the great British comedian down to his son.I am not sure if his dad actually met Will Hay but young Litbarski has every one of Will Hays films on DVD. His favourite is "ask a policeman"
  13. Thats right Buggleskelly it was Litbarski right enough.I recently read his auto biography and believe it or not his favourite British comedian is Will Hay. Would you believe it?
  14. That and the fact that Derek Johnstone was injured. That was his best season as a Rangers player and he was our talisman that season .If big DJ had been playing I reckon we would have beaten Cologne that night.
  15. Thats right ED, I have never felt so down in my life after that defeat to a ten man Celtic side. We were playing so well until Colin Jackson scored an own goal and then the roof fell in.It wasn't until we beat them in the league decider at Parkhead under Advocaat that I finally got over it. It had been a great season up until that point but we threw away so many points at the end with stupid draws. We were unlucky not to reach the European Cup semi finals and won the League and Scottish cups but that defeat really hurt the club for years to come. Nobody seems to give John Greig the credit for nearly winning the treble in his first season by playing really good football and going on a great european run beating Juventus and PSV Eindhoven on the way. He never recovered from that defeat in my opinion and the rest is history
  16. Thats right Marvel, we had just lost the old firm league decider 4-2 to Celtic and I remember no one really cared about the cup final at that time as we were all on a downer. The three games were shocking.
  17. Which Rangers player played in nine consecutive Scottish cup finals for Rangers.?
  18. If Lloyds hadn't called in their loan. Cant help thinking that our debt would still have been serviced and after winning the BTC we would have been in a strong position on and off the park. I still find it hard to believe what has happened to my great club but I am in awe at the way our support has rallied in a way that no other support in the history of football has ever done. Only one team in Scotland has benefitted from our misfortunes and in my eyes everything they have won since we went into administration lacks credibility. I certainly don't recognise any trophy they have won since that time.
  19. Even better, why not just donate everything to EDs 60th birthday bash at King Tuts at the end of the year and then you two could kiss and make up
  20. Whats your view on the young u/14 goalie Lewis Muir?
