I saw Nigel Worthington giving his opinion on this subject in the Belfast Telegraph online and I decided to seek the opinions of my fellow RMers http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/international/nigel-worthington-doesnrsquot-want-allireland-football-team-14964453.html#idc-cover For some reason this keeps being brought forward as a serious suggestion . Here's my outlook : - If an all Ireland team was to be persued in any way they would no doubt share games between Belfast and Dublin . As with the rugby I believe they would play the soldier's song in Dublin in the presence of unionist players and fans which is wholly unacceptable . The nature of the political divisions between unionists and nationalists mean that it would be unlikely that the all island team would attract unionist / loyalist support . This effectively means that hundreds of thousands of people in NI would have no national team that is representative of them . - Due to the Good Friday Agreement , players can choose to be British or Irish or both and hence they can already choose to play for the Irish Republic and this means that there is already an all Ireland team in some sense ( in that players from both sides of the border can play for the Republic should they wish to ) . - Organising sports on an all island basis is in my opinion , a hangover from pre-partion Ireland if you will . This does not mirror the political realities of the present day . I believe such teams to be anachronistic and as such will not support an all Ireland team . What are your opinions ?
Maybe Scotland could just choose another anthem which doesn't possess such a vehement anti English rhetoric . Also aside from that , Flower of Scotland is very dull almost like a funeral dirge or something . I really like Land of my Fathers and I reckon Scotland could do with something as inspiring as that . I think NI are also wanting to change ours so it's more acceptable for nationalists to play for the NI team .
In the knockout rounds it do or die and I think we could perform better under that pressure should we progress from the group . In the group stages we'll suffer if the attitude isn't spot on .
To be honest I'd rather we finish 4th with no european football and concentrate on the spl than finish 3rd to struggle on in europe and possibly lose ground in the spl . I think if we're very very lucky we'll achieve 2nd spot . Here's hoping !
Is Whittaker's injury bad enough to rule him out for Hamilton ? International football and injuries For United I like the 4-2-3-1 that's posted above but with Edu and not Foster .
In the last 5 years or so Northern Ireland have beaten : England , Spain , Latvia , Liechtenstein , Sweden , Denmark , San Marino , Azerbaijan , Poland and Slovenia in competitive matches . Not bad at all for Our Wee Country and hopefully there'll be more to come .
One thing that I love about Rangers Football Club ( aside from being the best club football team in the world ) is that in a way it is the de facto United Kingdom national side - the British club with support from all around the UK and further afield WATP I feel like I have two national football teams , one being Northern Ireland and the other being Rangers , and I am proud to be a Rangers man
