Alex Thomson case dropped An odd footnote to the Rangers saga was resolved on Tuesday. Strathclyde Police confirmed that their investigation into an alleged threat made by an unnamed Scottish journalist against Alex Thomson, Chief Correspondent of Channel 4 News, has closed after no evidence was found. A Strathclyde Police spokesperson told The Daily Telegraph: “An investigation was carried out but we were unable to establish any evidence of criminality.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/rangers/9357195/Rangers-problem-dumped-on-laps-on-Scottish-Football-League-clubs.html Liar.

http://blogs.channel4.com/alex-thomsons-view/rangers-apology/2041 A facet of the long-running Rangers story has been the creative use of the internet and IT to comment on the saga from all sides, from all kinds of fans. For some time I have been collecting such examples as they represent often highly-creative comment on the issues. This morning I posted one such example which shows a statue of former Rangers player and director, John Greig, “walking away” from Ibrox. Mr Greig – along with other former Rangers directors was recently cited in a legal Tribunal ruling by the Scottish Football Association. Central to their ruling was that key directors – including Mr Greig – had not acted properly whilst the club was mismanaged. This covers the time when Mr Greig was at the club, before he resigned. Therefore, I took this spoof video purely as a comment on John Greig “walking away” from Ibrox and nothing more. However, it is true that this statue commemorates those who died in the Ibrox Park disaster. Some have interpreted this as disrespectful to their memory. I was aware of the significance of the statue, but did not interpret that this image was designed to make a cruel link between those that lost their lives and the recent Rangers story. I immediately deleted the tweet and issued an unreserved apology – but Twitter is not always the best place for thorough explanation and apology –so I wanted to set out exactly what happened in my blog. I completely and unreservedly apologise for any offence caused.” John DC Gow @JohnDCGow Re: Ibrox disaster statue @alextomo at 10.23 on twitter says, "I was not aware." Blog at 13:06 says "I was aware."

Gordon Smith to be appointed director of football ?
sairdy replied to MCLACHLAN1's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
Gordon Smith will be appointed director of football at Rangers, BBC Scotland has learned. Smith last held the position of Scottish Football Association chief executive and previously played for the Ibrox club from 1977-1980. Craig Whyte bought Rangers from Sir David Murray at the tail end of last season and is in the process of re-shaping the club's hierarchy. Smith's role will be to assist manager Ally McCoist in his debut season. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/13818028.stm -

Alastair Johnston and Paul Murray Removed
sairdy replied to bombaybadboy08's topic in Jimmy Bell's Kitroom
New Rangers owner Craig Whyte has axed chairman Alastair Johnston and director Paul Murray after they refused to resign from the Ibrox board. And as he exerts full control over the club he bought earlier this month in a £52.5million deal, chief executive Martin Bain, finance director Donald McIntyre and director Dave King are also on their way out of the club. Bain and McIntyre have been suspended on full pay as an internal enquiry is launched into contractual issues, believed to include on what terms any severance would be based on. http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/sport/editor-s-picks/power-rangers-1.1103230 -

Hi there I was hoping that someone could help me with this picture. I would like to use it beside my name when I post. When I try to upload it it's too big. I have no idea how to re-size it. Any ideas or help would be appreciated. Gordon. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150236055347079&set=a.391986177078.192462.626507078&type=1&theater

Little bit more detail in this one. Craig Whyte has angrily hit out at the Rangers board after they expressed doubts over his cash pledges within hours of him completing his takeover of the club. Whyte successfully acquired Sir David Murray's 85% shareholding last night in a deal worth £52.5million, including a promise to invest £25million in the playing squad over five years and rejuvenate Ibrox Stadium. But a statement released by the Independent Board Committee, led by Rangers chairman Alastair Johnston, revealed their continued scepticism over Whyte's ability to fund his pledges. Whyte said: "What they said was complete and utter nonsense. I was surprised and disappointed with their statement. "It's obvious certain individuals have a different agenda and don't like change. I've already spoken to them so they know my feelings." Whyte now wants to hold talks with manager-in-waiting Ally McCoist about his plans for bolstering the squad over the summer but is keen not to detract from attempts to secure the Clydesdale Bank Premier League title this season. He said: "I've only had a very brief meeting with Ally a few months ago. Now we must sit down together as soon as possible. "I need to know Ally's thoughts because I'm here to facilitate them. I reckon we need four or five new players for next season. "However, it's important I don't do anything to take away the focus of trying to retain the title. Let's win the league first, then talk about the future." Whyte was met with applause from hundreds of Rangers fans as he arrived at Ibrox for today's meeting with Hearts. And he would have been impressed by events on the pitch as the Scottish champions cruised to a 4-0 win and stretched their lead at the SPL summit to four points. Reflecting on his first match as owner, the lifelong Rangers fan said: "It was an exciting day for me after six long months of negotiations with Sir David Murray. "The result was better than I could have expected. Now let's make sure we win our next two games. "Being able to bring my father, Tom, to Ibrox was something special. He used to bring me to the Copland Road end to watch Rangers 30 years ago. "The only thing different is that I couldn't sing in the directors' box." Whyte first confirmed plans for a proposed takeover on November 18 and six months of protracted negotiations followed before the deal was finally done. He added: "Obviously I'm glad I didn't walk away now. It was a tremendous feeling to walk through the front door as owner of Rangers. "Sir David's achievements have been tremendous. It was a unique period in the club's history to sign all those big-name players from England and Europe. "Walter Smith has also been a legend so, between myself and Ally, we have hard acts to follow." http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8734_6919752,00.html?
