  1. I don’t really look at historic achievements as a measure. I care more about the here and now. I suppose I may feel different if we were winning league titles on a regular basis, every other year or that or maybe a couple in a row (we can dream)but while we have one league title in 13 years I have just stopped caring about winning the cups. The league is the overriding benchmark of a team being successful or not in Scotland. The Scottish Cup or cup double are maybe a decent consolation when we know we’ll be straight back in the fight the following year for the title. They just seem meaningless at the moment but pretty much all we can muster. Clearly an unpopular opinion but my opinion nonetheless.
  2. I’m sure Clement has already said that identifying players isn’t his thing. He’ll basically work with what he’s given. Big onus on the new DOF and head scout and for Clement to get the best out of them. To be fair to Clement I do think up until the squad shat the bed he had been getting more out of them than Beale did.
  3. It’s going to be a massive and difficult job for Clement. From a playing stand point replacing Tav and Goldson is probably not the priority as think our biggest issue is the from 3. The problem we have is that they are this so called “leadership team” which amounts to they run the dressing room and to change the mentality of that dressing room and squad they probably need to be the first to go. It would be very difficult to bring new leaders and strong personalities in while they have been there so long and still rule the roost! It’ll depend on what Clement sees as a bigger priority quality of player or character.
  4. That’s maybe a fair point. The problem is that there won’t be much to back him with by not winning the league. League title this year arguably levelled the playing field. The Cups sadly don’t.
  5. Do you think that felt worse than watching the last 2 games? We’d already won promotion that year which was obviously the priority.
  6. 100%. As I said I’ve no issue with anyone that disagrees with me and the tickets would be best used by somebody wanting to go and cheer them on and does want to celebrate winning the cup. I’m not in that headspace and I’ll give the same guys my tickets if we reach the final.
  7. Any successful team has to win their first trophy and those players that have been quoted in the past clearly liked the taste of it and had that winning mentality. Even the most optimistic fan on here would be hard pressed to convince anyone that this squad had the makings of a successful Rangers team. Winning the Scottish Cup would have no bearing on the success of this squad.
  8. That’s different. Of course you would celebrate that in the moment. I think people are taking my point the wrong way. I’m not wanting us to lose or anything I’m just not bothered either way if we win it or not. Would losing it in the 93rd minute be as painful as watching us throw away our chances in the league as we have in the last 2 games? Not a chance.
  9. Not necessarily. It didn’t work out that way for Gio did it? A European Final and a Scottish Cup didn’t drive us on to further success. It’s the players and managers that ultimately drive the Club forward. It doesn’t just become a habit because you win a cup and I don’t think winning this years Scottish Cup will have any bearing on our future success.
  10. 😂 That’s a good one. You seem to be awfully sensitive about somebody not sharing your opinion. At this moment in time winning Cups means fuck all and is no consolation to our abysmal league record. That’s just my honest opinion. Nothing against people that don’t see it the same way and want to celebrate it as they see fit. Let me know if I get the gig 🤞🏻
  11. So we were going for the treble that day? I bet at work on the Monday you argued with any Tims that ah well we’re still the league Champions. You fuck up, prick.
  12. That’s true but back then we had a strong core of players that had underperformed in the league. This current squad winning the Cup wouldn’t give me any belief that they are capable of doing that.
  13. I totally agree with what you’re saying about the league and where we are but also highlights that winning Cups is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Just another number on the board.
  14. So we are saying that it doesn’t matter what trophy just any trophy? That to me says that we don’t mind constantly being second in the league as long as we win something. The whole historical trophy haul doesn’t do anything for me. It’ll always be all about the league for me. Cups are bonuses, clearly in the minority but feel that should be the attitude of the club. I’d actually love it if we win the Cup and Clement came out after the game and said he couldn’t really care less about it as still feels like the season has been a failure. Did Alex Ferguson not do something along those lines?
  15. Technically we lost the most successful team in football tag a few seasons back 😬 I do take your point that we should be trying our best to win every competition. It’s just my honest feeling that I care neither way at the moment about winning domestic Cups.
  16. This is the bit I don’t necessarily agree with. The most successful managers in our history didn’t have the greatest records in the Scottish Cup given how dominant we were in the league over those periods and that didn’t define them or our club. I think Smith won it 4 times against his 11 titles. Their dominance in the league defined them. It looks like I’m in the minority but couldn’t care less about the Cups and the season should be classed as nothing more than a failure. Unless by some miracle we win the league.
  17. Maybe that’s the difficult pill to swallow. Our recent lack of success in the league has clearly made the cups more meaningful to a big number of our support and the Club. There is a danger that if we try and kid ourselves that a cup double is a successful season and it’s just about winning trophies then that becomes an acceptable standard for our club. If we won the league we wouldn’t care less if they won the Scottish Cup and vice versa.
  18. What because I have difference of opinion? You’re clearly an arrogant prick.
  19. How did that work out the last time we won the Scottish Cup? Rangers is about being the top team in Scotland. Our history and success isn’t gauged on racking up League Cups and Scottish Cups it’s about being the dominant team in Scotland. So until we actually resemble that then I couldn’t care less about how many cups we win. Having a big party when we win a Scottish Cup is akin to that mob in the 90’s.
  20. If you can take comfort from winning the odd cup here and there when we have won one title in the last 13 years then crack on and enjoy it. I’m just being completely honest. Had we went out the cup before now the attitude would’ve been it doesn’t matter the league is the most important thing, we can fully concentrate on that now. Now we’ve fucked the league Cups are meaningful again.
  21. When we can’t win the one thing that actually matters then yes I couldn’t care less if we win the cups or not.
  22. Not for me. Domestic cups are fairly meaningless in most leagues these days. I couldn’t care less if we win it or not.
  23. No he’s not but has definitely dropped by his standards. He was bossing games a month or two ago. Might be fatigue as he’s one that never gets a rest but his levels have dropped massively.
  24. We’ve already stopped a treble. Them doing a double makes no difference to me. Fuck they won a quadruple treble for christ sake. Back in the day the Cups meant more but not now. Watching our players celebrate winning the Scottish like it was the Champions League after surrendering the league would be too much to stomach. There is only one main prize in Scottish football and as long as we’re happy playing second fiddle in that and picking up a few cups here and there then we’re fucked. That was their attitude in the 90’s.
