  1. The gaffer or the captain should be making sure the players aren't looking like they're out celebrating, but too many of our players just don't get it. Better the manager knows who they are though.
  2. Imagine being the Preston chairman and hearing we were willing to pay that for Garner, then hearing that we were increasing Garner's wages too. If Beadle wasn't already dead, he'd have assumed it was a wind up.
  3. How can we even have a POTY dance anyway? Doesn't that involve the players actually turning up?
  4. He's still got the same players at his disposal next week. There are a few decent players in our squad, but by and large they aren't good enough. Pedro can't change that, especially not in one week. Do I expect to see him learn and make adjustments? Aye, but he's already shown he's willing to do that. That's not the issue. The issue is that too many of the players aren't good enough.
  5. We're not shifting Garner. We paid over the odds for him, and he's on more money here than he was down south. Based on his form with us I doubt he's going to be attracting any interest beyond League One, and given that clubs will know we're desperate to free up wages I'd expect them to try to get us to make up the difference in any wage drop he takes. Waghorn, we could make a small profit on. Purely because we only paid £200,000 or so. But with Garner we're taking a loss, and/or paying towards his wages, or even loaning him out. Either way, we're taking a hit with Garner. (No shite pun intended.)
  6. I didn't agree with his tactics to start with, though some of our players folded after Tav gave away the penalty. I'd have went with a similar system to the one we used against them at Parkhead, or started with Dodoo up front, but the biggest problem is he's inherited a pish squad. Some players try and aren't good enough; some are mentally weak and aren't good enough; some look like they will be good enough and strong enough mentally, but lack experience. It's going to be a tall order getting rid of some of them, and we need to in order to free up funds to bring in better players. Best of luck to Pedro there. Hopefully Warburton wants to take some of them to Nottingham.
  7. There's no money if you want to follow the David Murray model. But there was no money in Scottish football at that time either, even with the Sky TV deal at the time; it's why we're in this mess now. There is money in Scottish football, but it's relevant to how much someone is willing to invest in Rangers for short term losses for the long term gains that can be made from Champions League money. At the moment nobody is going to touch us due to the Mike Ashley nonsense; until all the court cases are settled and another retail agreement struck, no outside investor will want to get involved. We're stuck for the foreseeable future due to the Sports Direct situation. (And because King & T3B can't go to Jim McColl for additional funding.) But Rangers can, and should be, a self-sustainable club, and capable of making of replicating Celtic's financial model. It's a catch 22 as we can't do that without further investment, and we won't get further investment from King, so we need this retail deal sorted.
  8. Depends on who leaked it as well. And with it being right before the Old Firm, they'll run with him being out even if their source was a nurse in the hospital Fod was taken to saying "he looked in a bad way." I'd love for us to pull a wind up on the media and Celtic over something like this though; convince them we've lost a star player, only for them to find out an hour before kickoff that he's fine. But I don't expect that to be the case here, nor would it really be the time for it. I don't think Alnwick is a bad keeper. I think he's in a similar level in his development to Fod when he arrived, though I do think Fod was better. I did think it was a questionable signing because Liam Kelly has been in good form for Livingston, and if Fod was to be sold this summer I'd have given Kelly a chance. But I think we've got three decent young keepers that could be developed into the replacement for when Wes is sold - though I hope we've got him for at least another season.
  9. I don't think it was disrespectful as such - it was something trying to pay tribute in a humorous and nostalgic fashion, as Ugo was a legend in the old CM games. It's not really something that works over twitter due to character limits though, and not everyone can pull that sort of thing off. (And if you're going to try that right after he dies, you should at least be pointing out that he had a sterling career and won cup finals with Villa and Boro, played for his country and scored that goal.) It's a misjudged attempt at being funny whilst trying to pay tribute to him.
  10. Tabloids aren't interested in news; only in selling papers, usually through sensationalist nonsense. Most broadsheets are owned by the same media conglomerates that own the tabloids too these days - so they're also more about pushing political narratives and manipulating how events are interpreted, rather than actually reporting the news. There aren't many honest reporters in the media any more - instead we have "journalists" instead. The honest reporters tend to be online, and get dismissed as cranks, then papers pick up on their work and repackage it as their own exclusives. It's just a racket, in more ways than one.
  11. If anything it'd be a minute of applause, as that shower don't even trust their fans to observe silences.
  12. Rangers fans singing songs is apparently "Scotland's shame" - fuck knows what they'd do if one of us stabbed one of that lot.
  13. I gave up Fight Pass years ago as my interest in MMA has waned with each passing year since PRIDE ceased. I dunno why, buy TUF: Redemption sounded interesting to me, so I'm recording the first two episodes over the weekend to give it a go.
  14. I'm sure Dom Ball said last year that Ugo pulled him aside and was putting across to him how much he enjoyed playing for Rangers. He came across as someone who realised how fortunate he was to get paid handsomely to play football, and didn't forget that the fans are the life blood of the game. Don't want to see anyone die that young, but it's gut wrenching when the person who dies is, by all accounts, a good person, and leaves a family behind. I'm not a Spurs man, by any means, but hopefully Rangers and Spurs can win the respective cups and pay tribute to Ugo. (Would be nice if a testimonial game or tournament could be organised featuring involvement from his former clubs.)
  15. I do think sending Vidal off and the questionable offside decisions were the deciding factors the other night, though in real time I don't think many would have gotten both the offside calls right. (Unless FAs start recruiting athletics stars as officials, it's got to be expected that they won't be able to keep up with play at those moments.) I fancy Atletico because it's over two legs, and over the years various Real managers have found it hard to break down Simeone's teams. Zizou has had some success there, but I think the aggregate scoreline against Bayern flattered them and they'll find it tough against Atletico. My money is on Atletico vs. Monaco in the final. Anything but Real and Man United winning the respective tournaments would be fine by me though...
  16. Anyone picking Atletico to go through to the final over Real?
  17. Absolutely gutted. No chance of a minute's silence being observed for him on Sunday against that shower of shite either. Heart goes out to his loved ones. Young guy, and by any accounts I've read a good man at that.
  18. That and we got a goal pretty much out of nowhere at the end of the first half. The boys were just beaten by a better team on the day, but they upped their performance and gave it a go. Some positives to take from that.
  19. Also been some poor passing. He's only a young lad and it's a good sign that his head didn't go down, but I think he's making a big mistake going to Chelsea. The numbers just aren't in his favour in regards to him making it, and he'll be one of many 'wonderkids' in their ranks.
  20. I think there's a decent chance of Anderlecht putting them out, to be honest. When United are on form they're good, but otherwise they seem to just expect Zlatan to bail them out. Their customer service was actually alright when they launched, but it seems like it's gone downhill ever since - probably just assume people will subscribe anyway for the CL.
  21. I think Genk will be a tough game tonight for Celta, but still fancy them to go through. Hoping United go out tonight, as if you take them out it's a much more interesting group of teams going for it.
  22. He's still a hero in my eyes for that overhead kick. Hope he makes a full recovery.
  23. That and Bazza and Rae both have a pal in a field up north who wanted Pedro's job in the first place, so it was a smart idea on Pedro's part to appoint someone else.
  24. I remember picking up my pre-ordered replica kit with my dad from the Ibrox store in '97, when I was about 9 or so. The pre-order had been taken for the wrong size and the lassie at the shop had to phone someone for help with it - and the person who came out with the right size kit was Sandy Jardine. I'm guessing my dad was used to seeing him around Ibrox, but as a wean it was like being in the presence of a demi-god. "You're Sandy Jardine," I blurted out as he was apologising for the mix up. He looked at my dad, bemused, then said, "I am," and asked how I knew who he was. I spent a few minutes going on and on about his career, as if he didn't know, and he signed an autograph for me. My maw later binned that autograph, along with many others, as she thought they were just scribbled on bits of paper nailed to my door. Even though she got half of them for me. (Paisley folk are not the brightest.) But the memory of getting Jardine's autograph will always mean a lot to me. He was a class act. RIP to a true Bear. I think Joe Yates is in good company right now!
  25. Last year McManaman was dismissing Sevilla before the Europa League final. In fact, he got tore into Liverpool for struggling against Villarreal. This is the same pundit who, not long ago, criticised Celtic for being outplayed by Inter Milan because "they're the Scottish champions and Inter aren't even top three in Italy," then admitted he hadn't watched much of Celtic or Inter domestically. The only thing Italian football is lacking is attendance, and several clubs are trying to get approval for their own, fan friendly stadiums to try to get fans back. French football gets slated by the English media, yet their teams always look to France for players. Could go on and on about how daft they are.
