  1. Erik Bo Andersen for those two goals off the bench against the beasts. (Edited as mistakenly thought the game was at the San Giro.)
  2. I'm too young to have watched his Rangers teams, but Jock Wallace's former players say he was ahead of his time in terms of ensuring everyone knew their tactical role, and having dossiers on opponents and strategies based on that. Gerrard seems to be of the same ilk as Wallace and Souness; he's focused on the fitness, made sure everyone knows their specific role and builds from there. The effect it has on players is evident just by watching Halliday. A decent, albeit limited, player whose confidence had been eroded over the last few years; target for the boo boys, and closely linked to Miller and Wallace. Rather than boot him out we've seen Gerrard put him out with specific roles and tasks, and Halliday has, by and large, carried them out. He's a decent utility player for us. I understand the "we need better" point, but quality players aren't going to sign to be fourth or fifth choice central midfielder when everyone is fit, third choice full back etc. Most successful teams* are greater than the sum of their parts and contain those utility players that, on paper, shouldn't be in the starting XI, but can fill in for more than one position and play their part. *Bar the likes of the Galacticos era Real Madrid, or the current Madrid side.
  3. I'd be surprised if we'd be able to make all the loanees - bar Sadiq - permanent, unless fees are already agreed in principle, but I'd keep all of them if we could. I think they all seem to be enjoying playing for us. (Thursday was Worrall's debut, aye, but he came across as raring to go as soon as he arrived; publicly declaring that we're a far bigger club than Forest - which we are - won't go down well with all of their support, and not the sort of thing he'd say if he was looking at this loan as being about development.)
  4. Durrant was interviewed by Simon Ferry and said they knew some of the players they were putting out on the park weren't good enough or mentally strong enough to play for Rangers, but it's all they could get. Ally did make (quite) a few baffling decisions in regards to players like McLean and a few others being passed over, but I think overall he was on a hiding to nothing as our manager after we were dropped to the fourth tier. I wouldn't have blamed him if he'd walked away from the manager's job in 2012. (Doesn't excuse some of the results, mind.) I really enjoyed his commentary during the world cup. A few times he seemed relaxed like he was during that, and I think that's when he's at his best. I'd still rather listen to him than Sutton or Butcher, though preferably without Rob MacLean.
  5. Ally isn't another Butcher; he's still a bluenose, but he tries too hard to be objective to the point of actually being overly critical at times. (Alex Rae has made a few eyebrow raising comments at times, and he's another bluenose.) Kevin Thomson is the only one who doesn't. Whether that's an unintentional result of trying to be objective or towing a line, I don't know, but BT Sports Scottish coverage very much seems to be put together by taigs. Having Miller and Hartson, two former celtic strikers, talk about Rangers from the media suite at Parkhead sums it up. Miller being 'the Rangers one' just days after getting sent off at Ibrox for going through Barišić, and after the acrimonious manner of his departure and subsequent bitching in the media, hardly seems like they give a shit about even appearing to be objective.
  6. I think he'd have been aware that Worrall was going to be playing games this season, and if Katić really was jaded in training then dropping him makes sense. I'd have Katić back in at the weekend, and play Worrall against Ayr. (If McAuley has recovered from his calf problem by then, I'd give him a run out then too, even from the bench.)
  7. I don't think he underestimated McGregor so much as he wasn't meekly accepting being the number two keeper. If he had done we'd be criticising him for it too. He put in a good performance against Killie, and I'd expect him to start against Ayr next week.
  8. Aye, it's an android issue. Edgar mentioned it in one of the recent podcasts. Patreon are trying to resolve it, but annoying as fuck. Half the time I listen to the podcasts in google chrome.
  9. Haven't read anyone suggest Halliday should start ahead of Jack, but don't agree that Halliday wasn't carrying out the gaffer's instructions. If that was the case he'd have been brought off.
  10. I think he'll play quite a bit this season. Arfield, Coulibally, Jack and Ejaria are ahead of him - Dorrans now too - but with us having a minimum of 55 games this season I reckon Halliday will continue to be called on a fair bit. I'll be surprised if he isn't given a contract extension.
  11. I don't think it'll be too long before he's given starts against certain opposition, but I think the gaffer is going to be smarter in the how he develops these young guys. (Even thought McCrorie looked better when he was brought on; didn't rush to punt out the ball when he got it in the penalty box, and you could tell he was following instructions.)
  12. I think he'll continue to get 25/30 minutes for the time being, but expect him to start against Ayr United. Made a big difference tonight; he should take confidence from that.
  13. He's had his dad and other hangers on telling him how great he is for years. Happened to a lesser degree with John Fleck, but he matured at Coventry and is now one of the senior players at Sheffield. In five years tims Windass will probably still be scraping about the bottom half of the Championship, angling for a return to Ibrox.
  14. There are a few that are known to be Rangers or celtic pubs, and a couple of St. Mirren ones. Majority aren't any particular way inclined.
  15. Only reason I was surprised by the red was how many bad tackles Clancy didn't book them for - it's why Miller thought he'd get away with it. Well seeing Clancy waited until late on to take action.
  16. Was convinced at the game it was a straight red, and having watched it back again I still don't think he was hard done by. He could arguably have been booked instead, but I think he was already on a yellow card so was still going off the pitch.
  17. There isn't a point - it's just propaganda. The SNP are acutely aware of how to use social media to spread propaganda. They're also aware that, in order to actually get the public appetite for another referendum and their desired result, they need to appeal to at least some of the Protestant/Unionist Scots. To this end there's been a growing number of "GersForIndy" type stuff on social media, in an attempt to push the false narrative of there being a silent majority of Rangers fans in favour of independence. Not that I think any of that will work. Under Sturgeon that party has gone further and further towards being the Scottish Sinn Fein; the die is already cast. You can't try to appeal to those who are wished they lived in the Republic of Ireland, but also convert people who were against independence a few years ago. They can fool themselves that the EU exit will change attitudes, but I think it's just as - if not more - likely that they'll have alienated some 'yes voters' over the last few years.
  18. Neither called a press conference where they pronounced Rangers dead.
  19. Aye. They're all for going on about supposed SFA cover ups in our favour, but mention that their former managers, board members and players aided a paedophile ring by staying silent, and that some board members actually benefited financially for doing so, and you're disgusting for point scoring. The victim mentality and persecution complex are so ingrained into the psyche of most celtic fans that they can't accept that, for the best part of the last decade, they've ran Scottish football; they want to both run it and yet complain that the authorities are biased in our favour. That some of them travel to unfurl banners when we're playing away in Europe, missing their own team's game in the process - and this summer was far from the first time tims have done so - sums them up; more fixated on us than what's going on at their own club.
  20. And Dundee United, whose players were on the field when O'Donnell collapsed, had to play despite the Old Firm postponement.
  21. They do more than one payment process due to the number on CCCS, so it'll come off at some point.
  22. I think it's a bit soon to be judging Barišić. I thought he had a good game at the weekend - got an assist, I think - but he's still settling in. He'll come on more in the next few weeks with a sustained run in the team, as it's been stop-start with him being cup-tied for the Europa League qualifiers and the international break.
