We are slightly better (though still vulnerable) at the back and have a far better keeper than last season and Progres were marginally better than Shkupi. But sending out a team not to lose against the 4th best team in Macedonia is absolutely ridiculous and I can’t believe so many people are accepting the idea that we had to be pragmatic and play Walter Smith football against this team. You can’t live in fear of losing to teams that small and poor even with what happened with last years freak incident. I would’ve hated to have seen what would’ve happened if that shot they hit the bar with in the first leg had creeped in because I doubt it would’ve been pretty. There were far too many worrying signs left over from the Pedro/Murty eras for my liking across 2 legs. I’m not going to turn on Gerrard yet but he needs to realise players like Windass and Morelos will lose you your job fast at a club like this.

So playing off long balls is his problem? i thought it was an inability to finish a chance, pass a ball, head a ball or stay onside.....

VAR would be all well and good here until a decision goes against Lennon or Rodgers then they would all lose their shit. Referees would have to be instructed to take a harsh approach to any players or managers making that fucking box symbol or constantly pissing and moaning for VAR like Iran last night until they eventually pressured the ref into getting their way. The clock needs to be paused during VAR delays as well, we have goal line and video technology but cant stop the clock as other sports have been doing for decades its a joke as you lose large chunks of the game that stoppage time doesnt make up for. I wouldnt like us to introduce it until it’s been implemented better elsewhere so we can copy it, the referees here are bad enough and would lose control of near enough every game if VAR was involved just now

From the admittedly little I’ve seen of Hardie he looks a decent enough striker it’s just a pity he’s built like a £5 note and doesn’t carry the pace to compensate for it. If he was going to break into our team, he would’ve by now considering the issues we’ve had with strikers recently

Im not the biggest Tav fan but it wont take a whole load of coaching to make him a passable defender. He needs to show a bit more bravery in shutting down crosses and a bit more tactical discipline. His athletic gifts already give him a massive advantage as a full back. If you look at the game we shouldve won at the Giro Dome after he finally grew a set of ball he had Sinclair in his back pocket and I havent seen Sinclair play for them since. We dont need to replace him just yet but we should be signing someone who’ll push him for his place.
