Why would he mention family reasons when he came to us?
Joining us meant moving away from his family, going to Villa meant moving closer to them.

Couldn’t have asked for a better start tbh. I know a lot of people are bitter and raging but I actually want him to do well.

I always say this. There isn’t any bias, the officiating is just awful across the board. The fans of the smaller clubs want VAR to supposedly even the playing field but all it’s going to lead to is more red cards and suspensions for their players because the majority of them are sent out to do hatchet jobs on players playing for us and them and the majority of them get away with it.

Gerrard laid a pretty strong foundation, but this season it became very pragmatic, too pragmatic actually, and it’s now clear that a change was needed for everybody.
Van Bronckhorst is the ideal man to take that foundation and build on it IMO. A bit more experienced, a bit more attack minded, a bit better at developing younger players. All things we need right now.
I honestly don’t think we will ever have as much of a clear open goal of an appointment as we had when Gerrard left and Gio was right there waiting and so obviously the man to come in and take it on for a long, long time.

What's really reassuring is that Gio has come in, immediately assessed what we need to do and has fixed things:
He's made us more compact and pulled the full-backs in, which has made us more solid and is getting the best out of Borna. He's playing only the 1 holding player, and Kamara looks better in that role, playing more centrally We're no longer playing with a flat midfield 3, and we now have midfielders trying to break the lines - which in particular is getting the most out of Aribo, who is rotating with the left winger and the right winger but playing behind the striker We're playing with genuine width, stretching teams while remaining solid as per the 1st point We're seeing signs of the old Alfie - his goal being the perfect example - albeit it's slow progress We look far more direct generally, are making far more passes in the final third, and are taking more shots Given he's had so little time and has to come in and get us firing straight away, he's started brilliantly. And it's all different types of wins - a solid big game performance in Europe, a comprehensive away win at a tricky ground, a tight win where we had to dig in deep and just take the points, and now your standard decent home win against a team playing with a packed defence.
Gio is absolutely proving to be the real deal.

Goldson and Balogun are different cases entirely
One is the first name on our team sheet and is in the peak of his career and the other is a veteran squad player who comes in and out the side as and when required.

This narrative has to end. No one is angry that Goldson wants to leave. People are angry that his performances this season indicate he’s already left in his head.

It’s mad how some people constantly complain about how shit the majority of our players are, yet they also seem to be totally against the idea of maybe moving a couple of them on in January and replacing them.
Yes we need to keep the majority of the team together (which we will anyway) but if we have the chance to freshen the side up then we should take it. Despite the good start under Gio it still feels like the side needs an injection of freshness. Losing a couple and adding a couple wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.

Again, is anybody ripping into Goldson for wanting to leave? I haven’t seen anybody call him a snake, a rat, a money chaser, a mercenary or anything along those lines.

You are making him out to be a far better player than he actually is.
Yes he plays most weeks but in four years he’s had one consistent season. Aside from that it’s been constant lapses in concentration and a sideshow of comedy errors.
If he wants out, recover as much of the fee that we paid for him as we can and give Gio some of the money to get his own player in.
