  1. We need To see more of Helander once he is up to speed. I think Goldson is still prone to being caught out and the odd error but he does look sharper, quicker and more focussed than last season. I am impressed hugely by young Edmundson and he is a definite star of the future. Katic is great in attacking set plays but gets lost in his defensive role at times. I think against Progres we will see Goldson and Edmundson. Longer term the jury is still out.
  2. Why is this thread even in the Transfer Section. The lad is ok and will get better. Needs encouragement, has the skill just a bit slow in adapting to the demands of the Scottish game. See him having a good season, minus plastic pitches and the challenge from Halliday can only be good for the squad.
  3. For the opposition in front of us, I think the tactics are spot on. We are attempting total football with dominant possession, high press and strong intensity. For early in the season they have done well and to be fair errors will be made with lessons to learn. Against Blackburn the wholesale subs were a contributory factor and as for last night, there was a case of desperation in trying to add to the goal tally. I am less concerned about the defence, especially if the holding midfield fill in for absent raiding fullbacks. What I am not so keen on is the fluffy pass it about football around the box like Wengers Arsenal. You don’t need to walk it in, shoot when you get the chance. our overall movement is good and I look forward to the coming League season
  4. I think SG’s honeymoon period was over a long while ago. When you start dropping points to diddy teams, reality kicks in, the knives come out and you are well aware that any shortfall in expectations will not be accepted. SG gets all of that, he has been brought up on it, born winner etc but what is more true is he HATES losing. The team performed well against them last season demonstrating a big improvement and we now have to go up a few more notches. He is capable and we need to stand by him. I am loving the changes and improvements compared to recent times.
  5. Might be wrong but looking at the training pictures looks like Borna has beefed up a bit for the coming season. Give Dijon Grezda instead, he’s mustard.
  6. Thought this many times but Scott Arfield is class, on and off the pitch. He compliments SG well in these situations. Without hesitating, he is able to communicate freely and sensibly in the ‘Rangers’ way - he really gets it. If it wasn’t for Tav in the driving seat, there could be no better candidate for captain.
  7. Agree that is a good read and most importantly, his attitude and commitment was outstanding. Think he might struggle with the current midfield options available and he should possibly aim for a further season loan at EPL Championship level. See him as a replacement for Davis next season.
  8. Possibly a bit expensive as a 3rd choice striker (I reckon £2m) but Keiffer Moore at Barnsley could be a Lafferty replacement. A bit of a late developer but has come good in recent times and selected in the League 1 team of the year, despite missing a few months with a head injury. Tall, physical and a bit of pace about him. Just what is needed for games against the less footballing sides. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kieffer_Moore
  9. Difficult shout. Not convinced any of our centre backs fill me with confidence to be honest. Goldson looks good when he has space and time but lacks pace when needed, struggles to sometimes read the bounce and i’m Not convinced about his heading ability. Worral is more physical, good in the air but is prone to stupid mistakes and dodgy passing. As someone mentioned previously, Katic has potential but is currently raw and naive. He is old fashioned in his approach - clear your lines at every opportunity. Very good in the air and likes a challenge but his distribution is woeful. Hopefully Goldson and Katic will improve over the summer but I think we need a bit more quality in this area and someone capable of dictating play and ruling that back line.
  10. This. At the start of the season folk were on Kent’s case but now he is a MUST sign. As SMILE said, give it time, it’s not as though he is Jon Flanagan class.
  11. Captain Fantastic. A true legend, great leader and all round great guy. RIP
  12. If Alfredo was to leave, we need to find someone capable of standing up to the physical side of the game and the ability to mix it when needed. Not sure of his contract status but Charlie Austin could fit the bill.
  13. Think you’re right here. McCrorie was a bit lost for large chunks of the game and his ball control was woeful on occasion but he wasn’t alone as Jack and Arfield not really at the races either. The good news is that we have had two good wins on the bounce without being totally at in either. Great moments of football last night and great to watch such a physical battle.
  14. My Guess is Borna has been coached in an environment where technical ability is rated higher than physical. In Scotland the latter is essential and given time he will learn this. Might be the reason why he has been criticised for ‘supposed’ injuries in the past and calls for him to man up. Greg Stewart was a handful last night as was G M-S on the opposite side but surely it is up to Jack and McCrorie to provide help and cover when the full backs are exposed. Give him time, he will come good.
  15. Can we no start way 10 men and bring the 11th on later?
  16. Come on guys, lets get real here. Hearts or Villarreal? Bit of difference I think. Let’s enjoy the squad, we are on a good road and things look clear. Loving it after so many years of doom and gloom.
  17. Not alone I’m sure but Goldson was great at the start of the season but lost his way recently. Excellent today (weirdly on the left) so well done big man. Great all round performance supported by the experience of McAuley. Neither are quick enough but good enough for all but ‘them’. Gerrard will know but there are a few changes necessary in January to make us a good/great side.
  18. Airfield is not dirty - no raised boot etc. Tough but we are The Rangers so nomchange. We should playb with 10 every week and bring on the extra man whe it suits. Well done today boys. Scored all 3 goals. Quality and top of the table.
  19. Was watching the Liverpool game earlier and Steve MacManaman was saying Liverpool were jaded on Wednesday playing Red Star. All the impact of playing so many games in a short timeframe. They didn’t even have to pre qualify.
  20. There is no doubting the progress made under SG & Co. Massively improved and decidedly more entertaining although with the odd hiccup thrown in for good measure. That’s football I guess, made worse by our own increased levels of expectation and long may this be the case. Interesting to see how much the views have changed on youngsters Ryan Kent and Ovie Ejaria. A couple of months back they were worse than bad and now they are verging on being off the scale, in demand and now the subject of transfer talk. Last night we lacked a bit of composure at key times but we were in the game for the most part and with a bit more consistency, just like Kent, we will be there. Loving the ride, here’s to a good win on Sunday.
  21. Exactly right. It helps to go back to last season and how we ended up. Even with the SG appointment there were serious doubters and some no doubt remain, but when we recognise what has been achieved in such a short time we have to be well pleased surely. We have a new squad playing 2 games a week often without 11 on the pitch and we are travelling far and wide to deliver something not seen at Ibrox for sometime. The refereeing gods are often/regularly against us. Doubtless we have work to do but I for one can’t believe that a winner like our Gaffer will be happy to be on the losing side. Sure it was inevitable and will happen again but I suspect the squad will know how he feels and jointly they will work to sort this out and deliver that 55.
  22. What you can take from Hartley’s comments and indeed Gerrard’s reply is that other teams are worried about the Gers resurgence. The Gaffer keeps his powder dry pre match talks about ‘respect’ at every opportunity and if needed, makes his points post match in a calm and unruffled manner. Opposition Managers, players and even the media are struggling to handle this and do their utmost to get their digs in. We have seen it recently with Osijek and Maribor now Hartley and even Lennon is beginning to try and sow seeds suggesting he doesn’t get the hype with Gerrard. Time will tell but SG will take it all with a pinch of salt, use it as motivation and watch the meltdown.
