  1. Rangers fans have slammed an Aberdeen forum after members made vile comments about ex-Gers star Fernando Ricksen. Supporters group Club 1872 branded the Dons followers as ‘dregs of society’ for making sick gags about the Ibrox hero’s on-going battle with Motor Neuron Disease. Club 1872, a supporters group for the Ibrox club, hit out, saying: “We were disgusted when we were made aware of these sickening comments about Fernando. “His illness is something that should transcend football rivalry and supporters of a number of clubs in Scotland have been very kind to him and his family through what has been a very difficult time for them. Didn't post what the Aberdeen scum consider as jokes as they are Disgusting.
  2. Seventy2 Magazine have asked me to pass on this message, which I'm delighted to do... “For Fernando” Retro Rangers fanzine, Seventy2 has pledged its support of former player Fernando Ricksen, recently diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease by donating money from the cover price of their new issue 8 to MND Scotland. The magazine has also dispensed with the tradition of featuring their guest editor on the front cover, instead opting for a picture of Fernando Ricksen during his playing days at Ibrox. Seventy2 Editor, Mal Robinson said: "We were looking to feature Fernando in the next issue, with it being a Dutch theme, however once we found out the devastating news of his illness, the decision was made to allow the man some privacy. We still wanted to show our support for him so by donating money to MND Scotland and placing him on the front is the least we can do for Fernando." 10p from the £2.50 cover price of each issue sold will go to MND Scotland. Head of Fundraising and Volunteering for MND Scotland, Iain McWhirter added: "MND Scotland was saddened by the news of Fernando Ricksen’s diagnosis with Motor Neurone Disease, and offers our full support in his fight against this devastating illness. Motor Neurone Disease (MND) is a rapidly progressing, terminal neurological illness. More than 160 people in Scotland are diagnosed with MND each year, and there are currently 377 living with the illness. From diagnosis, average life expectancy with MND is 14 months. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of support offered in tribute to Fernando, and all donations will help to ensure that everyone living with Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland, their families, and carers continue to receive the best quality of care and support." Tributes from a fan page on Facebook entitled "Pray for Fernando" have also been included in the issue, the page alone amassing over 74,000 followers in one week. Of course tributes from former players have also featured in the magazine. Guest Editor for issue 8 and former Rangers manager, Dick Advocaat said: "He (Fernando) is a very strong personality and has a very strong character so hopefully he can fight against the illness. But it’s very difficult." Former team mate and Seventy2 columnist Alex Rae added: "Fernando is a popular character as has been proven by all the kind tributes and I wish him all the best." Finally, Fernando Ricksen's biographer, Vincent de Vries provides an exclusive interview on writing the book and the development of the recent news. In his interview he added: "In the summer he told me he had some problems with his muscles. He wanted to use a lighter, for a cigarette, but he had problems to use that. None of that power he had." Seventy2 Magazine is published by Media73 Ltd and was launched in August 2012. It has a circulation of 21,000 readers and is available online, in shops and via iTunes & Google marketplaces as a digital app. It has already featured over 40 Rangers former players. Copies of the magazine can be ordered with free postage from www.seventy2magazine.co.uk MND Scotland offer a broad range of services to people with Motor Neurone Disease in Scotland.
