 That is a cringe worthy interview.

It's also fiction.

Tribalfootball is pretty much made up.

(tu) never heard of the site before.

I think their sources must literally be forwarded emails. They never give any credible evidence for the origins of their stories.

Goal.com are almost as bad.

Newcastle have always had the potential to be a big club, I'd say we have a bigger fan base worldwide but they average roughly the same as us through the gates. They are certainly one of the best supported clubs in the EPL so if they got a decent manager in place and had the patience to give that manager time needed to make a lasting impact, in a few years they could be right in the mix, sadly due to T.V. any team down south who are reasonably successful are automatically bigger than us, no doubt Arteta reckons he's moved on to bigger and better things even though his team average 30000 at home. Newcastle missed a massive opportunity in not getting Mark Hughes in when they had the chance, he showed at Blackburn that he's quite capable of putting a good team together on a relatively small budget.

Newcastle are not a "big club" IMO. The only reason anyone suggests they are is that they have a large number of supporters WHO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT FOOTBALL. Look at their reaction to Keegan coming back. Any sensible person knew that he wouldn't win anything and would walk at the first sign of trouble but they think he's a messiah.

They haven't won anything in 50 odd years are there's not much chance of that changing in the forseeable future. They benefit from being the only club in a reasonably sized city which makes them think they are more important than they are. They rank far closer to teams like Sunderland or Middlesborough than genuinely big clubs.

Teams like Aston Villa, Everton, Man City, Tottenham and even Chelsea have far better claims to be being big clubs than Newcastle will ever have.
