When the SPL rejected SKY's new deal in 2002

Also in hyndsight we would have been better off had we taken the £65m i think that was offered.

I think it was nearer £50m. But after the epic fail of the SPL trying to launch their own TV channel, they signed an £18m deal with the BBC. I know we've just signed a supposedely record deal with Setanta, but I believe if we kept with SKY every club in the SPL would be in a far, far better position financially right now than we are.

That's why the SFL clubs should kick this SPL2 out the door right now.

That was the Old Firm's fault, too - didn't we basically veto it as we wanted our own TV channels or something? And we know how great they've turned out...

Us and them didn't want to end the deal with SKY as at the time we were trying to get into the Premiership. But after the SPL rejected the deal, to start their own TV channel (EPIC FAIL) the rumours where; us and them tried to launch our own TV channels with SKY but we eventually settled for SPL TV. A few months later we signed an £18m deal with BBC...

How smart are those gentlemen at the SPL?

I'm just reading up about it. During the SKY years the 10-12 clubs combined debts barely reached £10m. A year into the BBC deal the debts of all clubs put together was around £132m! That's unreal. Since the end of the SKY deal, four clubs have entered administration.

I thought it was the then SPL guru Mitchell whose brainchild was SPL tv and used the geniuses like Yorkston of Dunfermline and others to out vote the old firm who thought it was a non starter which it proved to be. Spl was then forced to go cap in hand to the bbc who paid pocket money for the rights.

If only we had stayed with Sky and reaped the rewards just like the premiership. But when numpties run the spl and the tail wags the dog the results are plain to see.
