McWeedy Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 With no one outside the old firm having won the league in over 20 years was there a night a couple of years ago where one result assured the status Quo, when hearts lined up against AIK Athens were they actually on the verge of becoming one of the big boys? If they had won that game and got champions league football and all the money that goes with it could they have built themselves up to become the third part of a a big three? Thoughts?
The Lad Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Surely they'd use the money they got to pay some wages
McWeedy Posted February 27, 2009 Author Posted February 27, 2009 Look at the impact missing out on champions league football has had on us this season. It would have a huge impact on a club like that which has never seen serious money if they qualified.

adam2102 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 nope, one season of champions league would not bring a club like hearts anywhere near the old firm, especially with romanov in charge
TMWWBK Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 They'd probably have pulled away from Aberdeen, Hibs and Dundee Utd for a season or two, but they wouldn't have came anywhere near to denting the Old Firm. Their group stage experience would have probably went the way Cluj's and BATE Borisov's went this year. The £8M to £10M would have mostly went to the debt. Fundamentally, Hearts have no challenge to the Old Firm.
Jiggaman88 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 An extra 10 million wouldnt make them a big club they made thade from Gordon and llok where they are now! They would need to consistently get decent money from Uefa cup runs to attract better quality players. One run in the Champions League groups stages would have gotten them no further than what they are now FACT!
rangers4eva Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 They would not have got as much as the old firm anyway due to the size of their stadium.
Jiggaman88 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 They would be using Murrayfield. Why? For more capacity like they have done before.
