Player Rater - League Cup Final

miller should never have been taken off when he was, writing was on the wall after that

McGregor 6- He was ok. Too many long punts towards Lafferty in the first half. No chance with either goal.

Papac 6- He was ok. Dependable.

Weir 5- He was the man with experience but he didn't organize the defence. McDonald harrased him and looked dodgy at set pieces.

Broadfoot 4- Totally embarrasing. Beaten by McGeady at the end. Not good enough for Rangers.

Whittaker 7- Dealt with McGeady quite well. Got forward well. Good performance must stay at RB.

Davis 4- Total lack of creativity. Offered nothing.

Ferguson 5- Showed passion but age is catching up with him not good enough.

Mendes 4- No creativity from the Portuguese player today. Poor performance.

McCulloch 5- Did ok broke up attacks but he gave the ball away far too many times. Very poor player.

Lafferty 7- For a player who was playing totally out of position he did well. Caused Hinkel problems. Shouldn't have gone off.

Miller 5- Offered very little and was constantly getting caught offside.

Subs: Novo 5- Did ok went on a few runs and showed desire but lack of quality. Dailly 4- Poor performance offered nothing. Boyd 4- Not good enough to play against Celtic.

Whittaker got murdered by McGeady on numerous occasions.

Yet Papac who was solid and never let Nakamura into the game gets a lower rating.

Can someone explain this one to me?

Yes. You're incorrect with your comment.

Don't ask me. I rated Whittaker under Papac.

McGregor - 7 - Showed urgency and a couple of good saves. Shouldn't listen to the stooges telling him to continually punt it long.

Papac 6- Did little wrong but seems to always be in his own little world where speed is not of the essence.

Weir 5- He looked dodgy at set pieces and painfully slow. Gave away stupid freekicks and played into their hands.

Broadfoot 2- Totally embarrassing - can't even use the injury excuse. Not good enough for Rangers.

Whittaker 4- Clumsy - does things well that you don't think he can and then proceeds to do the most stupid things ever. Was always getting caught on the wrong side of his opponents when they came to cross the ball. Bottom line he can not defend.

Davis 4- Missing for vast periods of the game, as he has done the last few games.

Ferguson 5- Living in the past. Doesn't seem to be able to motivate or lead by example now. Plenty effort and desire but no end result.

Mendes 4- No creativity. Need big performnces away from Ibrox in big games and yet to see this since his first Old firm game.

McCulloch 3 Very poor player. was brought in to shore up the midfield so why were we outnumbered and outplayed by them? Seemed to be doing a great job in marking the invisible man - shame it was meant to be Broonaldinho.

Lafferty 7- For a player who was playing totally out of position he did well. Caused Hinkel problems. Shouldn't have gone off.

Miller 4- Offered little in the way of commitment abnd desire and was constantly getting caught offside.

Subs: Novo 5- Did ok went on a few runs and showed desire but lack of fitness showed. have to wonder about the managements thinking and the medical teams expertise given the situation and position he was asked to play.

Dailly 2- Poor performance offered nothing.

Boyd 2- Not good enough to play against Celtic. Attitude still a disgrace and shouldn't have been given yet another chance to embarrass himself and the fans - no effort.

Manager - inept tactics, yet again no sign of trying to win a final, lying down to poor opposition and giving them too much respect. Played into their hands by playing one up front with a constant high ball then taking off the most dangerous attacker for daring to show initiative and attempts on goal.

Pull yourselves together FFS

I think Rangers were the better team over 90 minutes, didnt create enough and it cost us

The leage is still on, as is the scottish cup so chins up and move on

We will beat this mob at ibrox and the league will be ours, im sure of it

Walter will not "go for it", he does not have the bottle or the tactical ability to change games--- we ended up in a shambolic formation as usual when his plan "A" again failed in a crunch game.Of course we did not create enough-- purely down to formation and tactics from a man who cannot buy success this time.

I agree Lafferty did fine, but he really ran out of legs and it was obvious to anyone watching closely enough (I know that on TV you cant see the off the ball stuff) he was blowing out his arse and needed to be replaced. For a fully fit professional footballer to be unable to last 90 minutes in a game of very little pace is quite worrying.

Think Davis wasnt as bad as a 4, he was at least as good as Ferguson. His problem is he is a central midfielder playing on the wing. Ferguson look back far too often with the ball now while that may be down to having noone making runs ahead of him I think its more down to him being told to keep posession rather than trying to make that incisive pass that might lead to a goal.

Selection wise there was no plan to win the game in that line up just not to concede. Celtic were there for the taking. Aside from Brown they didnt seem interested for 90 minutes and we could have really gone for the jugular, that right wing was crying out for someone to attack it.

Most depressing thing for me was 28-29 minutes of extra time after O'Dea scored and we barely created anything. 1-0 in a cup final and 10 minutes to go it should be 9 men in the opposition box going for it, nothing to lose, but they almost seemed content losing 1-0 :(
