Real Madrid defender Pepe has been given a 10-match ban

Real Madrid defender Pepe has been given a 10-match ban for his violent behaviour and abuse of officials after he was sent-off against Getafe.

Pepe pushed Francisco Casquero to concede a penalty with the score level close to the end of Tuesday's match.

He then kicked the grounded Casquero and raked his studs over the player's back before striking Getafe's Juan Albin in the ensuing melee.

Pepe was given a straight red and abused officials as he left the pitch.

The 26-year-old is reported to have said "you are all sons of whores" to the fourth official.

Getafe failed to convert the penalty and Real Madrid went on to win, with Higuain scoring an injury-time winner. Pepe returned to the field of play to celebrate after the final whistle in another breach of regulations.

The Portugal international will miss Real Madrid's remaining six games of the Spanish season, including next week's match against Barcelona.

The ban has been handed down by the Spanish football association (RFEF).

Disciplinary committee president Alfredo Florez explained that one game was for the red card, one for his offensive comments towards officials and eight for aggression towards opponents.

Pepe has since apologised for his behaviour but Getafe president Angel Torres said in newspaper Marca: "Pepe's attitude was unforgiveable."

I'd have given him a 10 month jail sentence!

An absolute tosser, but he'll suffer in the end, hopefully someone does him in!

I like it how he punched Juan Albin, and, not Cata Diaz, as he'd have trampeled all over him.

Real Madrid are planning to appeal against the 10-match ban that was given to defender Pepe for his violent actions against Getafe in midweek.

The Portuguese was sent off during Real's 3-2 victory over their Madrid rivals for shoving Francisco Casquero over in the penalty box and then proceeding to kick out at the midfielder twice while he was on the floor.

In the ensuing melee, Pepe proceeded to palm an approaching opposition player in the face and punch Getafe's Juan Albin, forcing captain Iker Casillas to lead the disgraced defender off the field while he reportedly shouted obscenities at the fourth official.

The 26-year-old has since apologised for his actions and declared that he no longer has any desire to play football, however Real Madrid interim president Vincente Boluda has since vowed to fight the ban.

"What a catastrophe!" Boluda told Spanish daily Marca.

"The punishment doesn't match what happened on the pitch."

Pepe will now miss the remainder of Real Madrid's games this season as well as facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines at the beginning of the 09/10 campaign.

Can you believe Real Madrid are actually going to appeal this.

why are people calling him a prick ect, someting must have happened for him to this.

I dont like barca so mon the Madrid

Aye it did - they were drawing the game, he'd just given away a penalty which should have given Getafe the 3 points and was pissed off with himself.

He thought kicking a bloke on the floor would make him feel better. Prick of the highest order imo.

He's a petulant wanker and like the guy above said: he should have got 10 months in nick for that.

Any other walk of life it would have been assault at the very least.
