I'll still top the goals chart

CELTIC have a Fortune while Rangers are skint.

But Kris Boyd has vowed to make up the difference in goals.

Tony Mowbray has splashed out £3.8million to sign hitman Marc-Antoine Fortune from Nancy - and he could well be Celts' biggest transfer coup of the summer.

Walter Smith won't be able to write a cheque anywhere near as large as he tries to add to his Rangers squad.

But Ibrox ace Boydy insists he doesn't need to.

The Gers No9 believes the SPL champions already have the firepower to clinch two-in-a-row.

He warned: "Celtic are going to come at us with all guns blazing.

"With Tony Mowbray taking over from Gordon Strachan I'm sure they will be looking to stamp their authority back on the Scottish game.

"But we'll be ready. They have obviously moved to sign Fortune, a guy with Premiership experience.

"But that doesn't guarantee anything in the SPL.

"Some people might look at Rangers and our situation, given that it doesn't look like the gaffer will be making many additions.

"But we're the champions and I don't see any reason why we can't keep hold of the title.

"I can't wait for the season to start and my target is the same as it always is.

"I aim to finish the season as the country's top scorer and, with the players we still have at Rangers, I don't see why that can't happen.

"With the amount of chances the team creates I'm sure I'll be up there at the end of the season.

"It doesn't matter to me who signs for any club before any season - I always set out to score more goals than anybody else.

"That includes Marc-Antoine Fortune and anyone else who signs for Celtic this summer."

Boyd, who won SunSport's Golden Boot last season, thought he was on his way out of Ibrox last January with cash-strapped Gers desperate to sell.

But the situation isn't as bad now - with Champions League money guaranteed - and Boyd is less fearful his Ibrox career is set to end.

He added: "You can't live your life worrying about things which might happen.

"I was linked with a move away from here in January and it never happened. That situation could arise again, but I hope not.

"I'm happy with Rangers, everyone knows that, and I want to be here as long as possible." Boyd, 25, scored the goals which went a long way to helping Rangers win the title last season.

But he knows Celtic will be fired up to grab the crown back.

He said: "It's going to be a new experience for a lot of the boys. I think the gaffer has said we'll have a different challenge now.

"Other teams and players seem to try harder when they are playing against the champions.

"That's something we need to expect and be ready for.

"But it's a challenge we look forward to. Winning the league last season is what we all wanted so desperately and, now we've got it, we want to keep hold of it.

"Thinking back to winning the league, it was a massive thing for all the boys.

"But we probably won't fully appreciate is until years to come. From a player's point of view you enjoy the occasion, then prepare to get going again.

"That's the frame of mind I'm in at the moment.

"I have enjoyed the summer spending time with my family, but we're just about to get going again and I can't wait for it.

"Pre-season training is sure to be tough, but I reckon everyone will be eager to get back out there.

"And hopefully the new campaign brings out the best in us again."

Seeing the SPL title flag unfurled at Ibrox on the opening day of the new season is also a landmark occasion Boyd will relish.

He added: "That's something I always remember as a kid.

"Being at Ibrox for the flag going up was a great thing - I'm looking forward to that on the first day of the season."

Boyd won over his critics last season by showing there was more to his game than just sticking the ball in the back of the net.

He said: "I feel I've grown into a more rounded player in the last few years and want that to continue.

"There is always pressure as a club like this - especially wearing the No9 jersey - but I feel I'm able to handle that.

"Players have come here in the past and maybe not realised what it's all about and what it takes to play here. But I know now what playing for Rangers is all about."

This thread stinks of the polarity of the Rangers support these days, in fact the two Ive read this morning, this one and the new strips only available in the Rangers store. Theres people moaning about that too. Ive got mates in Italy, ITALY, who cant wait to get their hands on a new strip, they're using THE INTERNET. All you hear these days is people fucking moaning about Rangers even when were the champions, in the champions league, have the top goal scorer in Scotland, will have the top goal scoarer in Scottish football history if he stays with us AND STILL the dummies come out the pram. Im with Minstral on this, Im fucking sick of all this PC brigade wanting everything put on a fucking plate in front of them. GROW UP FFS and get your heids together.

Boyd should do his talking on the park, thats a classic.

I hate these types of news stories, dont read them then.

What next, I hate it when I have to go to Ibrox to see the game??? FFS!

I think Boyd has shown (domestically at least) he can back up his fighting talk with important goals.

Hopefully this domestic form will result in him humming the CL anthem at least once from the pitch this autumn as well given most of us have complained about our team not attacking enough in home European games especially.

(tu) exactly

What I find amusing is, people complain its oh so quiet, with nothing coming out of Ibrox, then, as soon as something IS in the press, they jump on it with negative glee! Really is beyond me, unless, people were moaning it was quiet because they had sod all to moan about?

That more than anything makes me think he is going to knuckle down now. And the interview the other day, where he mentioned he isn't influenced by certain people anymore (Fergie).

I hope he gets his chance in the CL, and puts some goals away (no matter how much of a tap in) against some top opposition.

Well in Boydy, good to hear you are ready for the fight next season (tu)

For the past 4 seasons he has been our top scorer. The first season of which he was only here for 6 months.

Why stick the boot in? All he is saying is that he wants to out-perform the rest of the strikers in Scotland...Which is what I expect. What's the big deal?

Would you prefer him come out and say something along the lines of "Oh, I don't think i'll be top goal scorer this season now that Fortune has joined Celtic, but i will try my best."

Stop trying to moan about anything and everything.

I dont think theres anything wrong with him saying what he's saying but im not a fan of Boyd, he holds us back as he is of limited fitness and ability and needs to be carried by other players hindering the team. I couldn't give a monkeys wether he was top scorer or not aslong as the Title is home.
