I thought it would be interesting to start a NFL thread, seeing as I know there are some more American football fans on here, to post about the upcoming season, thoughts and opinions etc.

Well I'm a Seattle Seahawks fan so the only real way for us to go is up, but I think we definitely will challenge next season to get in the play-offs. Losing Julian Peterson to the Lions was not the best way to start the off-season, especially seeing as I thought our strongest part to the team was we had a pretty solid young-ish linebacker set, then Leroy Hill was franchised and I thought here goes another linebacker. Luckily though with Curry coming in the 4th pick of the first round, letting Julian Peterson go could be a master stroke with alot of people saying Curry could be one of the most productive rookies this year.

Hasselbeck if he can stay fit, which may be questionable, is a definite starting quarterback and was the thing I was least worrying about on offence. Last year our Wide Receivers were all over the place, Branch was injured, then came back, then injured again, Burleson got injured there was just nobody to pass to, so we struggled, now hopefully with a healthy set of Wide Receivers and the addition of TJ Houshm...(I'm not gonna even try to spell it, from now on he's just TJ  ) I think we can get that passing game going again. Also having Carlson at Tight End has been adding some good yardage for a tight end in his rookie year and can hopefully progress this year.

Now the running game is at most adequate, Julius Jones and Duckett can prove me wrong but I just don't see them as producing solid numbers, no where near what we had with Shaun Alexander anyway.

I don't think we will be superbowl, nor NFC champions contenders, but its not beyond the realms of belief that we could take back the NFC west division.

I'm a Cowboy fan...I feel another mediocre season, 9-7 or 8-8. There is not enough depth at receiver at the secondary looks shaky. Then there is Tony Romo, who really has to find some consistency in his game. The fact that Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett did not lose their jobs will bring more complacency to the team.

And sorry that you're stuck with Julius Jones, he is brutal :anguish:

what do you think about TO out Williams in to replace him?

Its so brutal having him and Duckett, I'd prefer we have one more solid starter than trying to give them both so much game time, I know it can work Panthers last season were a brilliant example of 2 different running backs putting up some solid numbers.

On the field, TO is still a good player, but his negative influence in the locker room was a detriment to the Cowboys. I'm not really convinced over Roy Williams though. The last 8 or so games he played, he looked completely lost and a shadow of the player that dominated for the Lions-although they say he was injured, but who knows?

yeah I agree on both points, I'd say Dallas have some outstanding players on their team, Demarcus Ware is the best in his position in the NFL in my opinion, but I just don't know if they have it in them to take what is arguably the hardest division in the NFC, it really is wide open that division as all of the teams will be atleast pushing 8-8 in the season I think.

I'm a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. Got tickets to Wembley so im pretty excited. Will be my third year in a row but at least i will support a team this time rather than be a neutral.

In all honesty though the Patriots will destroy us. We will finish the season 5-11 i think. We just cut all our Veteran players and drafted another QB (already known for trying to aquire as many quarterbacks as possible). Still unsure who our starter will be but i think we will have a few brightspots in Derrick Ward and Antonio Bryant.

Anyone else going to Wembley?

Marshall Faulks top 5 tight ends in the league:

1. Tony Gonzalez (Falcons)

2. Antonio Gates (Chargers)

3. Jason Witten (Cowboys)

4. Dallas Clark (Colts)

5. Owen Daniels (Texans)

first 2 picks were obvious, but to be honest I hadn't really noticed how good Owen Daniels has been over the season.

Tight Ends are freaks of nature. So big yet so quick and with great hands. Almost impossible to stop them.

my mate is a Buccs fan, we were saying that Freeman is the long term option for Quarterback but might not be ready to start come the season opener.

Derrick Ward is a good running back, who even with shared duties with Brandon Jacobs still managed to rush for 1000+ yards.

Some of the catches you see Antonio Gates and Tony Gonzalez pull of are remarkable, the fact Antonio Gates was a basketball player in college turned into an american footballer really gave him an advantage in the air.

Having a good Tight End opens up so much more to your team aswell, teams can't use double coverage on your best wide receiver if your Tight End is just as capable at picking up passing yards. Thats why Owen Daniels was put in there, he managed to make himself enough of a force that Andre Johnson was able to put up top numbers by getting out of double coverage.

Yeah, i think Tight Ends are also a rookie Qb's best option as they are so big you just have to throw it near them. That is why Matt Ryan did so well last year as he never really had a prominant TE.

And is it just me or does anyone else think Joe Flacco isn't all that great? I mean he has got the best defense in the NFL bar maybe the Steelers and his numbers weren't always that great. He is solid though don't get me wrong. Just nowhere near Matt Ryan.

I didn't rate Joe Flacco that highly, well in comparison to Matt Ryan anyway who set the bar that season, Towards the end of the season though Flacco started to improve, picking his passes better and his movement in the pocket got so much better. Maybe this season he can carry on his form.

Do you do fantasy drafts? There is a good league system on CBS Sportsline website. If there was enough people who are into NFL we could get a RM fantasy league for start of the upcoming season. I think you need 12 for CBS.

Colts fan here.

I fear for the Colts this season :anguish:

You have a new coach in who has big big boots to fill but he's been with the team for a long time he knows how things are run, he understands how Peyton works so i dont think you will fair too badly. I think ur defence needs to get bigger and for Sanders to stay healthy.

But with Wayne and Manning you have chance to win any game.
