Andreas Ivanschitz

He's been mentioned on here quite a few times over the last few seasons, even before we played Panathianikos in the UEFA Cup.

He's fallen out of favour with Henk Ten Cate and has supposidly been dropped from Panathinaikos pre-season tour, and has today been linked with Celtc.

A left footed, left sided midfielder, who can also play in a more central attacking role. He has two good feet, touch, vision, good technique, very good passer of the ball, has a thumping shot, and is known for his excellent deliver; hence the nickname, the Austrian David Beckham.

He's still only 25, and was the captain of the national side at the European Championships back in 2008.

He's a talented player, and one who I think would fit into our team very well. £750K is the fee being banded about, and I think he's worth every penny, should he be available at that price!?

The good old YouTube video; can make any player look good, but Ivanschitz has already proven himself.

I would absolutely hate to see him go to the tims. The sort of player we have been needing for years. He'll guarantee you performances, assists, and goals - his left foot is a weapon!

Great shout Muff, there are some things I have to say about Andreas Ivanschitz though:

Yes, hes was the captain of our national team at Euro 2008, but since then he's had rather little game time.

Not only has he lost the captaincy, he's fallen out of the national squad completely under new coach Constantini and Austria has arguably produced its best football since France 98 in the first games of his reign.

As Muff said, he's also out of favour at Panathinaikos.

Ivanschitz is no captain, he's very skillful and has a great left foot - technically he's definitely one of Austria's best players, but he's not a leader. He has to concentrate on his own game, can't carry others. Hans Krankl has done his development no good when he made him captain of the national team at the age of 19, I say that really ruined him and hindered him doing what he's best at.

When he's in the right team, used in the right way he definitely is a weapon and a threat to any team.

He's a bit overrated by most though IMO, but I believe we've yet to see his best football. When some coach manages to get the best out of him, Ivanschitz will be a joy to watch.

I believe for us he could be tremendous and at 750k he'd be an absolute steal.

This is the type of player we should be looking to sign. His left foot is a real threat and he would bring something we severely lack, good delivery from free kicks and corners.

But I'm sure our 'Chief Scout' Ewan Chester has never heard of him as he is too busy searching high and low in Britain for a player or checking www.skysports.com to see who is being linked with who.

Another thing that's probably worth mentioning:

I remember reading an interview with him a couple of years ago, in which he was asked what club he would like to play for and one of the names he replied was Rangers.

There is also a video on youtube from the time he was still playing at Rapid Vienna and they managed to reach the group stages of the CL. When asked what teams he'd like Rapid to face he said Barcelona, Rangers and Ajax.

He'd definitely not be opposed to coming to us.

;)

And that's why I think he's work well under Walter Smith, Ally McCoist, and alongside the likes of David Weir, Madjid Bougherra, Steven Davis, Maurice Edu, Kevin Thomson, Pedro Mendes, Kyle Lafferty and Kenny Miller.

bit off topic but on the subject of Greek football, does anyone know whats come of Toni Calvo, used to play for Aris? he was a great talent, it should be these sorts of leagues we're looking into.

Yep, I also think he'd fit in there very well.

Ivanschitz for 750k or Commons for 3.5m? - I'll choose Andi without thinking twice.

Wow. Available at 750k? That's an absolute bargain.

Someone I would never have thought to recommend because I thought he'd be out of our price range.

Really would be disappointed if we didn't chase this one.

Toni Calvo looked a player earlier on in his career. I know he's still relatively young, but he's hardly set the heather on fire at Aris.

He's been messed about quite a bit position wise, along with rarely getting a game, and he's not found the from that people expected from him.

A nippy, silky wee player who did have pretty good technique, but is very small and lightweight.

That's the thing though, I doubt our "scouts" even know much about him.
