Why No Takers?

Recommended Posts

Already this Summer we have seen average to decent players in Kevin Doyle, Frazier Campbell and now Bobby Zamora move to Premiership clubs for pretty hefty fees.

Now I know that Kris Boyd has his weaknesses and so on, but how can a player who has hit over 100 goals in little over three years, constantly be overlooked by English clubs as a potential target?

Don't misinterpret me here, I wouldn't welcome any interest for Boyd, especially as I have been a critic in the past. But it really suprises me that guys like Allardyce and Brown are always on about "finding a goalscorer", yet Boyd's name never seems to be mentioned (publically atleast)

At the end of the day goals win games, and Premiership clubs will go to almost any lengths to find a player who could potentially score goals that can seperate them from their rivals.

Let's hope that they remain ignorant as to how well and how regularly Boydie does it.

Yeah, well said mate, let's hold on to Boydie for as long as he's banging the goals in.

The fact that Boyd, without great width and creativity coming from the full-backs and other areas of the team, has scored so many goals at Rangers (particularly in the Walter Smith II era) is astounding and a testament to Kris Boyd the goalscorer.

This may sound a bit daft but i feel this maybe Boydys big chance this season to finally prove all his critics wrong, he showed last season that he capable of a hell of alot more than just scoring goals.

I just hope Walter gives him his chance in Europe in the coming months and doesnt hesitate to start him against septic so he can bang a few past them and put this "he only scores against small teams" crap to bed.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more interest in him too. It's a mystery tbh, but I'm happy about it in a way, because I'd definitely rather he stays here. If he keeps scoring so many, the interest will grow though & if he scores some in Europe this coming season we might find the interest going haywire & us not being able to keep him.

i was thinking the same, suprised mcleish hasnt given it another go. i see big eck gave a new contract to cameron jerome today even though as a striker whos played 123 games for b.c hes only scored 26 goals!

Like you say, lets hope the prem managers remain ignorant although even if another bid was accepted im pretty sure boyd would have little intrest in leaving the greatest club in the world!

Boyd must stay - no Boyd, no goals :pipe:

That's not really the case though, is it?

if you want to win games, then goals are the most important thing...

Yes, but you seemed to imply that we wouldnt score any goals without Boyd - which factually isn't the case.

I knw, but what I meant is he's our top scorer, and has been for over 3 seasons and for two seasons he's only came on as a sub and was still our top scorer, that not tell you something?

Maybe other clubs are willing just to wait 6months and pre-sign him on the bosman

As yourself the Boyd situation is puzzling, one thing is for sure we'll know whats happening with him very soon.

I WOULD give him a new deal if he put in performances similar to the one at Tannadice on the last day of the season on a regular basis.

1 good game a season is no good

posted missing in every other BIG game last season

;)

i too would punt him, but as thread suggests, no one wants him!

eh, coz hes rotten

i have no doubt though he will sign a new deal, its on the way.................

There are plenty of other players in The Premiership who are rotten.

But thats an irrelevant point because, as I said Premiership managers will go to any lengths to try and unearth a player who could make the difference.

In recent years we've seen managers take chances on guys from places where the standard is very low i.e South Korea, Iran and South Africa simply because they have half decent records.

So why are they unwilling to take a risk on a guy who has been scoring goals for fun right under their noses?
