AMMS 27
Stafford yes, Queens Park yes, Berwick yes, even Kilsyth, but I must confess I never knew about these guys before http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Social_de_Deportes_Rangers They're from Chile, they are a top division team and named by a Scotsman!! Unfortunately they don't play in blue and they aren't very good but still I can't believe I've never heard of them. And what about the meaning of 'Rangers', again this is news to me, but I like it, it feels appropriate somehow. We should extend the hand of friendship to these Chilean bears. Anyone on here know their Santiago from their Sala y Gomez?

Poetry_In_Blue 1,043
Quite interesting. The name Rangers (meaning ‘One of the Defending Watchman’) was chosen by a scotsman, Juan Greenstret, who was one of the founding fathers of the Club. This quote made me laugh for some reason, never knew any Scotsmen to be named Juan.

This quote made me laugh for some reason, never knew any Scotsmen to be named Juan. Can anyone tell me what the origin of this is? I've seen the Juan Ghuy reference on here and (ahem) other Gers forums but never knew where it started. Great spot AMMS. Maybe we should start a speshul relationship with our Latino namesakes... Also, pleased to see you've changed your avatar. Close-up dental work is not a good look!
