Celtic have agreed to play a friendly against Benfica in Canada next month.

The Parkhead club have agreed to the glamour game in Toronto on September 2 as they seek to boost their brand in North America.

The game will come during an international break and many of the first-team squad will miss the game because they will be away on international duty with their respective countries....

The game against Benfica will be played at the 20,000 capacity BMO Field - where Mo Johnston's Toronto FC play their MLS matches.

What shits me off is that Celtic are going to places like North America and Australia to try and increase their overseas following but meanwhile Rangers never seem to leave Europe. It's one of the issues brought up in that article on here a few months back.

Australia, London, Manchester, Moscow, Toronto, Glasgow already...and the league season hasn't started yet. Hopefully they're knackered and burnt out from all the traveling and hit the ground like a snail.

i dont care where the scum go, or us for that point, as long as we get game time, no jet lag and just let them tire themselves and get injuries and knocks in the process, it says international break, so there ant no european games around then

they unfurled a banner gainst Benfica last time they played confessing they "pyoor wantid a speshul relationshup wiv eh Benfica"

Was that the big banner of Miklos Feher's shirt? Fair enough, the fact he died on the pitch was a tragedy, but was there any need to make a banner of it a few years after it had happened? That was stinking of "love me please".

How much will they spend going to Toronto on wages,flights,bonus',5 star hotels, hire of training ground, restaurants etc compared to what they'll get out of it...

Canada doesn't need conquered,it's the US that needs woken up to football over here.Canada has such a massive Scottish population that 1 in 5 people are Scottish or have Scottish roots so knowing about Rangers and Them isn't such an issue.

I agree mate we should be doing all we can to boost shirt sales in North America and Australasia. Wouldn't be doing it through the season though.

A more accurate question would be 'which european teams do Celtic and their fans not have 'a pure speshul relationship wae n that by the way'

What was the banner they unfurled at the Benfica game :S

Against AC? Just a traditional homecoming, plus the league cup and new manager... again.

If that was us they'd no doubt be deeply offended by our excessive carbon footprint.
