Excellent stuff from our club

We do this every summer -- somewhere. This is a great gesture from our club -- and is a win-win. We export our brand, gain new supporters... but at the end of the day, we have just made a difference in 200 kids lives. Well done The Rangers!

FITC Soccer School in Trinidad and Tabago

RANGERS made some good friends and new fans on a highly successful coaching course in Trinidad & Tobago.

The Rangers Football in the Community department held a two week-long event in Port of Spain thanks to a tie-up with the Queen's Park Cricket Club.

FITC Soccer School in Trinidad and TabagoNearly 200 local kids were involved in the fortnight of activity with Rangers coach Gregg Statt at the centre of the sessions.

It was another great exercise for the Football in the Community department who have already hosted similar camps in Canada, the USA and Australia.

The nephews of former Ranger Russell Latapy - Trevin and Christian - were involved and loved every minute.

Statt said: "The camp was boys and girls aged 6 - 17. I was coaching alongside the Queen's Park coaches and worked with over 90 kids the first week and 80 the second week. The young players were a mixture of QPCC players and young players from across Trinidad.

"The link was created by Alan Cabral of QPCC who found our Soccer Schools details on the website and contacted Davie Stewart, our Soccer Schools Officer, to set something up.

"This year was a taster for QPCC to help create a relationship which could involve more Rangers coaches heading over next year and QPCC players coming to a Rangers Camp in Scotland.

"It is the first year QPCC have run youth football teams so this relationship will help develop their current players and coaches, attract new players and give young players in Trinidad the chance to be spotted by one of the biggest clubs in Europe. So it was a highly beneficial trip and we hope if will lead to even bigger and better things."

yeah... to put my fiscally responsible hat on for a sec.. must have cost us a fortune -- but that is what makes our club special. This isn't about making money.. it was getting kids onto the straight and narrow, and just doing our part for youth. I don't think I can be any prouder about our club when I read this.

We Are The People -- for many reasons. And this is just one of those.

SOLDIERS from the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion the Royal Regiment of Scotland took part in a landmark friendly yesterday wearing strips kindly donated by Rangers and West Ham.

The soldiers are in Afghanistan to train the Afghan National Army and they teamed up with their counterparts from 7 Scots to take on the new recruits.

The donation of the Rangers strips follows a visit on 26 July by Douglas Alexander, the Secretary of State for International Development.

Whilst there, he learned over lunch with the soldiers at Camp Souter that one side had no football strips and he arranged for them to be kitted out.

Back in Britain, the Scots minister linked up with the Light Blues and immediately arranged to send a team strip to Afghanistan.

The Afghan National Army players wore the Rangers kit, with the international side sporting West Ham's strip colours.

The match took place at the Kabul Military Training Centre, where international mentors including British soldiers and Royal Marines train Afghan Officer and Non-Commissioned Officers.

The final score was 2-2 and the international team's captain, Rangers supporter Major David Jones, heralded the game as a huge success.

He said: "The Afghans that I'm training are very fit young men - they do a lot of sport and weight training.
