Magpies snap up keeper Schmeichel

Notts County have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee believed to be a club record.

The 22-year-old played eight times for City in the top flight and spent part of last season on loan at Coventry.

The Dane played under Notts's director of football Sven-Goran Eriksson while they were at Eastlands.

The fee is thought to eclipse the £685,000 the Magpies paid for Sheffield United striker Tony Agana in 1991.

A league 2 club paying apparently £1million plus for a player

Remember the days when we could spend that much on one player :anguish:

What a bizzare club to go to.. they may have the cash to offer him but league 2? Surely he could have got first team football at a Premiership level and definately championship level. Notts County for the title is not a bad bet.

Obviously its not a bad bet.

They have millions, and Eriksson.

They should walk it if they buy more players of this calibre.

This reminds me of when Al Fayed tookover Fulham in 1997, spending 7 figures sums to get out of the 2nd Division. I saw Sol Campbell was linked with them the other day. Surely he wouldn't risk moving down the leagues and getting the abuse down there?
