RANGERS fans have been thanked for their generous contribution in helping to raise over £5000 for the Fire Fighters Charity at last Sunday's Hearts game.

Supporters from Hearts and Rangers dug deep for a can collection which was organised in memory of Edinburgh fire fighter Ewan Williamson who died fighting a fire in The Balmoral Bar in Dalry Road.

Ewan had played his part in saving 20 people that night, including a baby, and his actions clearly moved the 16,300 supporters who attended the match at Tynecastle Stadium.

Now Hearts and the Fire Fighters Charity have thanked supporters from both clubs after a staggering £5,351.19 was raised.

The Fire Fighters Charity helps the many fire fighters who are injured in the line of duty, providing care and assistance in their time of need.

A Hearts spokesperson said: "This is a magnificent sum of money and we are delighted for The Fire Fighters Charity in raising such a significant amount.

"Everyone at Tynecastle would like to extend our warmest thanks to supporters of both teams on Sunday for the remarkable generosity shown in memory of Ewan, a local lad who ultimately gave his life for others.

"It is very clear that nobody at Tynecastle - or indeed Ibrox - will forget Ewan. And that's how it should be."

Speaking for the Fire Fighters Charity, Margaret Barnes said, "The Fire Fighters Charity is extremely grateful to have received such generous donations from the supporters who attended the match last weekend.

"The monies raised will go toward funding the Charity's therapy and rehabilitation services, which support the thousands of UK fire fighters that are injured each year."

We were also getting praise from Ewan Cameron on Real Radio the other night as well.

Said he was enjoying the banter with our fans on the train from Falkirk and all the way up the Gorgie.
