SCOTLAND and England will do battle on the oche in darts' inaugural Jocky Wilson Cup at Glasgow's Braehead Arena on Saturday December 5.

The Jocky Wilson Cup, named in honour of the Scottish two-time World Champion, will see the two famous international rivals clash in a similar format to Davis Cup tennis, and be shown live on Sky Sports.

Ayrshire's Robert Thornton and Berwick-born Gary Anderson will represent Scotland, taking on the world's top two players, English pair Phil Taylor and James Wade.

The tournament will feature five best-of-11 leg games on the night, with one point being awarded for victory in each of the singles fixtures and two on offer in the doubles match.

The fixtures will be played as follows:

Gary Anderson v James Wade

Phil Taylor v Robert Thornton

Anderson & Thornton v Taylor & Wade

Robert Thornton v James Wade

Gary Anderson v Phil Taylor

The winning team will be the first to reach four points.

"We're delighted to introduce the Jocky Wilson Cup to the calendar and already looking forward to seeing two old rivals go head-to-head in December," said PDC Chairman Barry Hearn.

"With Gary Anderson and Robert Thornton establishing themselves at the top level of darts with the PDC, this is currently the most exciting time for the sport in Scotland since Jocky was at his peak in the 1980s.

"To pit them against Phil Taylor and James Wade in front of their home fans is a challenge they are both excited by, and it will be a memorable night for all four players.

"Jocky Wilson himself has given his approval for the event and allowed us to name the trophy in his honour - and having passed on his Flying Scotsman nickname to Gary Anderson this year I think we know who he will be cheering on!"

The Jocky Wilson Cup will be screened live on Sky Sports Two, from 7pm-10pm.

Tickets will be priced at £30 for floor seats and £20 for tiered seats.

Tickets will be available to Annual Subscribers to the PDCtv service at www.pdc.tv from Thursday October 1, and will go on general sale on Monday October 5.

A bit of a play on the National teams of the BDO (shite that it is) but should be a good wee tourney.
