If money is so tight at Ibrox at present, with new contracts only being given to current players if we get more sponsorship and do ok in the Champs League. Would we be not have been better off giving a known quantity i.e Kris Boyd a new contract, than sign Rothen who is an unknown quantity in the Scottish game.

I would have preferred the money to be given to Kris Boyd.

Now that the window is closed, we don't need to worry about Boyd's contract until January. We've got plenty of champions league games to gain some money in before then. 1 win is £700k. Thats a huge portion of Boyd's potental new contract.

Exactly.

And if he helps at all towards winning those games, i'm sure they are more likely to offer him a contract. (Not saying he'll start, but if he can come on and score.)

If Rangers intend to keep Boyd beyond the end of this season then they'll probably wait until January before talking contract extentions.

No disrespect to Boyd, he isn't a player we need as such, whereas all last season and during the transfer window we have been screaming out for an out and out winger.

Theres always one isnt there!

I mean we sign a player (who would have thought it,eh?) in what are very testing times for the club financially...

Yet there are always doom mongers. And look we havent just signed a run of the mill SPL player - far from it.

We have a French International with a reputation as a dead ball specialist. Just what we need dont you think?

Personally i am delighted with regards to Rothen....And look at it like this, we will have BOTH Rothen and Boyd in the same team to at least the end of the season.

Tonight i am one happy chappy!

Lets all enjoy the season lads and here's to another title. :pipe:

Then I sincerely hope you weren't someone complaining about the lack of new signings.

I really just wish we could go a day without talking about Kris Boyd.

At the end of the day, if the club have the cash to give him a new deal and Smith deems him worthy of it, that'll be that.

If we have the cash and don't offer him one, that'll speak volumes.

If we don't have the cash to offer him one, it's not worth discussion.

I am very happy we have been able to sign a really useful player in Rothen. I still find it hard though, to swallow that a player who is likely to score 25 - 30 goals every season, is in the last 10 months of his contract, with no imminent sign he will be getting a new one. Different scale altogether, but can you imagine Man U letting this happen to Rooney? I don't believe there is anyone else at the club apart from possibly Nacho who could score that amount of goals.

To Jama88: to come back with such a clever response, your days at school must have been well spent. Tool.

Boyd still has a year to go so shut up about him fur fuck sake.

The guy can score against the smaller teams and gets us 3 points so that's great.Don't expect him to feature much in the champions league or against Celtic as it will be Lafferty. That's how much our management team think of him.

Plus i doubt Boyd will be hard to deal with as far as a new contract next year is concerned or otherwise Rangers will get what they have wanted for a while and that's rid of him.......win win situation for Rangers.
