It is the same with uefa, if the ref catches it during the game and he gest booked or sent off then there is no need for retrospective punishment. I agree with that way of working it.

aye, as much as i would love to see mcgeady nailed to the wall for the dive, the fact is he got caught and punished during the game so there is not to much more smith can do.....

So if you get caught, it's a one game ban.

If you don't, it's two games? That's a crock of shite.

In reality if you get caught you only get a caution. So that's even worse.

We complained when folk never got pulled up for diving, now we are complaining when they do when it is missed in a game.

I don't think we would be this upset if it was a dundee utd player. It is only because it is McTraitor.

What do we expect?

I'm stauchly in Danny's camp of utterly hating Gordon Smith. Scared of being victimised by Celtic at the expense of upholding justice in Scottish football.

Nothing but an imposter.

If you actually watched his explanation on the SFA website you would undertsand why he can't comment

He confirmed what i said to you a few days ago as well, under the rules he cannot punish mcgeady further as he was booked and it wasn't one of the three situtions that are reviewable after the game.

Why do you hate a rangers fan who defended us in the press for years ? Have you met him, he's actually quite a nice guy.......

It wasnt as bad as the Eduardo one and the camera angles are not conclusive....i know he is a wee dick and all that but i just dont think that this has any place in the Bears den as it is not a Rangers player, did not happen in a Rangers game and no Rangers player has been accused of diving. Lafferty got the ban because he got another player sent off by claiming a violent off the ball action.

This is just nothing more than more sellick obsessing and paranoia. Its ridiculous how much of it goes on in here....

Dundee United didn't jump to the moral high ground and basically lobby for a player to be banned before themselves having a player sent off for diving. Gordon Smith was vociferous in his condemnation of Eduardo, yet he has fallen deafly silent not. And absolute coward.

I ask this, if he thinks there should be no more action because the referee got it right, where is Chris Killen's retrospective punishment given the ref got the decision wrong?

I have no wish to meet him.

Why doesn't he report it to UEFA then? He's been banned, but a one match ban isn't enough for diving. Lafferty got three and Eduardo got two.

The SFA might not be able to sort it out, but UEFA certainly can.

Gordon Smith defends refusal to condemn Celtic's Aiden McGeady over dive

Sep 1 2009 By Craig Swan

GORDON SMITH last night defended his refusal to condemn Aiden McGeady - just days after calling on UEFA to ban Eduardo.

The Celtic winger soared into controversy when he was given a second yellow card in the game against Hibs for diving on Sunday.

McGeady's actions at Easter Road came at the end of a week when Celtic had cried foul over the cheating antics of the Arsenal striker during the Champions League clash in London six days ago.

Smith reacted furiously to Eduardo's behaviour and insisted Europe's football chiefs look at hammering the player with retrospective video evidence.

Bias The SFA chief executive has not, however, offered similar condemnation of McGeady.

That's led to nonsensical calls of bias and Smith last night put his reasons for staying quiet down in black and white.

He said: "The referee caught it and it has been dealt with. People don't seem to understand that.It is only when the referee has been deceived.

"I can talk of any other incidents that happen in the world because we do not deal with them.

"I am making it clear. Most people don't understand that three incidents are the only ones we look at.

"A player deceiving a referee to win a penalty kick, a freekick from which a goal is scored or to get an opponent sent-off. If they do not happen or the player is dealt with at the time, the matter is closed.

"In terms of things which happen in Scotland, I won't be going into great detail because we deal with the disciplinary measures. For me to talk could be seen as prejudicing the case of people coming up in front of a panel.

"The disciplinary committee will take into account the instances we have spoken about. We are already doing that.

"We did it in the case of Kyle Lafferty for having an opponent sent off. When we find players in cases getting penalties or free-kicks which lead to goals, we will also have it reviewed.

"Anyone who suggests I am keeping quiet about it for a reason has no idea of the situation."

doh so you can dive to get a free kick that doesn't lead to a goal?
