Change the coaches, not the Manager...

At a time when the team is under performing so badly its no surprise that there are questions being asked and fingers being pointed from all quarters. From a personal point of view I seen this current form coming as too many times in the recent past results have deceived and merely disguised underlying problems.

I as much as anyone get frustrated with Walter Smiths tactics and team selections and I'd actually go as far as saying he doesn't believe in his attack minded players. Iv'e raised similar points previously and commented on how its bound to impact on the confidence of individuals, and sadly this seed of doubt appears now to be bearing fruit.

I don't think any of us are ever going to see eye to eye with Walters ethos or everything he does but overall he is a good manager and still the man for the job. Apart from the evident financial constraints he has I believe the biggest hindrance to him is the scouting and coaching ( or lack of ) at Murray park.

For a club of our size and reputation and with the amazing facilities at our disposal the standard and amount of quality young players coming through is criminal. In particular I want to focus on the lack of attacking talent we unearth. Chris Burke and the so far disappointing John Fleck aside I cannot think of any attacking / creative player that we have developed who would make it in the first team ?

Teams like Hibs and Celtic churn out these types of player year after year which is credit to their coaching systems but ours seems totally inept. I honestly have never seen a club so devoid of wingers and creative players. Why ?

We all know Walter is a fan of the all rounder type of utility player but my fear is this is cascading down through the coaching system and stifling the natural attacking qualities of younger players?

Right now we are crying out for someone with a bit of attacking / creative flair and if we don't have the funds to purchase then surely we must grow our own? Even from a financial perspective developing attacking players makes more sense as they tend to attract more value in the transfer market.

Murray park and its ability to supply the first team in the future will be crucial to our success. The materials and facilities are all there but the ethos and talent in terms of coaching isn't, that's what we need to change.

you kind of lost your own arguement there, on one hand your saying change the coaches, then on other saying they are producing utility players because that what walter wants. they must be taking instruction from walter to do so then, and if you change coaches but with the same intrusction from walter nothing will change.

i think we are producing youths but we fuck up with them after the 18-19 stage, they just dont progress, maybe because of walters reluctance to use them or maybe they just cant make the next big step.

this is not just a current problem, this problem has stemmed for years , young promising players not breaking through. why i dont get and cant accept why a club like hibs can nuture through their players and make millions off them, and we have contributed to this, with thomson, whittaker and miller the first time, yet we have produce a mere 3 players worth of note since murray park opened.

people will say is that hibs have to play their youths early because it is their only option which i can see to a point, but we can always loan players out too to get first team action earlier, but why do theirs progress and get big moves to the like of rangers and celtic, and our end up at oldham, blackpool and cardiff with no direspect to those three clubs.

you have certain options you can entertain

change manager and hope ally bleeds them through

close down the youths cause it more hassle than its worth

keep the manager and lets things be the way it is

kick every kid up the arse and stop pussy footing around with them

sack the whole management and coaching staff and start again

i am fed up with us not producing, why cant we produce a youth better than kirk broadfoot, come on, it cant be that hard

I take what your saying in terms of what seems a contradiction with Walter and the coaches but I don't think that's entirely accurate. Walter is the manager of course and I'm sure he has influence over elements of the coaching. However its not conceivable to think that he has total control of how they coach and the methods they use ? Either this type of player isn't being brought into the club in enough quantity or the coaches we have aren't good enough to progress them to the next level.

You may well have a point in that WS is ultimately responsible for the coaches we employ or even the style of kids we bring in ?, but I still think its a competency issue with the coaches we have and not the direction Walter is giving.

The main points I am trying to raise are (a) The standard of coaching in the attacking sense is not good enough. (b) Why is there such a shortage of winger / creative type players both at youth level and fringe first team ?

Whatever the reasons the fact is the ethos behind our youth development is flawed and the quality of attack minded coaching is not good enough. I just want to see the club try and become more associated with producing the very best attacking talent Scotland has to offer.

We really missed the boat when we let Celtic take John Park from Hibs.

I dont remember the coaches name, but he was winning the lot with Hibs youth and we poached him to Ibrox,he sank without trace with us.

This must have been 15 ish years ago, maybe longer, anyone remember this guy??
