Advocaat and Arveladze heading to parkhead

Recommended Posts

ROOKIE Celtic boss Neil Lennon is set to go head to head with ex-Rangers boss Dick Advocaat in a glamour friendly when the Dutchman brings AZ Alkmaar to Parkhead next month.

The Hoops have been in talks with the Eredivisie club over a friendly in Glasgow on Wednesday April 21 as Celtic owe their season ticketholders a home game with no Scottish Cup ties there this season.

Advocaat last took charge of a team at Celtic Park in 2001 when the Light Blues lost 2-1 to their bitter rivals.

Former Ibrox striker Shota Arveladze would also be in line for a return to Scotland as he's assistant at AZ Alkmaar.

He said: "I can imagine the reception we will probably get when we come out of the tunnel at Celtic Park. We will have to close our ears."

Meanwhile, Celtic's friendly game against Dutch side AZ Alkmaar scheduled for Wednesday has been cancelled due to travel problems.

Celtic said in a statement: "The club is hoping to rearrange the fixture against the Dutch side for the near future."

Celtic are in dire straits, this match would have given them a financial boost they so desperately crave (and even then not many fans would have turned up I reckon)... they are worse off than they let on!!
