Fans representative on the board

Firstly, let's give credit where is rightly due!

The RST is the only supporters organisation that is making a serious effort to launch a scheme that includes a form of supporter involvement, and that is to be applauded.

Cast your mind back a few months and this site was inundated with posts from members who wanted this or that fund set up to assist the Club, and there were various proposals to donate money, buy surplus season tickets etc.

It is clear (even from the scant details we have) that the RST have been consulting experienced business people in an effort to put together a credible business plan that will attract the interest of the Club and the supporters.

Whilst I - like all of you - don't have any 'inside' information, it is extremely encouraging that the RST continues to work hard 'behind the scenes' to make OUR dream come true.

It's very early days yet, so let's wait and see what develops. certainly, we should not write off their proposals until we actually know what they are and whether or not a serious 'backer' can be found.

Well done the RST. Please keep up the good work. But this need not be the end of supporters being involved in our club, we should use this great work to launch an fans fund, which could buy us a seat at the boardroom table. I posted an idea called the Rangers Pledge in another thread yeasterday, but in the light of todays news i think we can still gather funds from the fanbase to use for the good of our club, with the proviso it gets our legs if not in the boardroom at least under the table at Ibrox.

I am all for fans representation but the clique at the top of the RST are not the answer. They cant even run their own organisation in a transparent manner and that raises questions over their suitability to be board members.

I'm all for chipping in a few quid to aid the club, but I would need to know who was responsible for my cash.

I don't know too much about the RST to be honest, but everything I read and hear about them is always negative.

This obviously makes me very wary, and I'm sure many others feel the same.

The Trust do deserve some credit for working on this issue but given it is their raison d'être, I'd be more surprised if they weren't.

Like you say it is early days in any scheme so people would be best avoiding dismissing anything until we all know more. Some have every reason to doubt the RST which is fair enough but it is probable the Assembly and the Association are also privvy to what is happening and are involved - at least unofficially at the moment.

It is also important to note that while the Trust may be the ones pushing forward at the moment to facilitate such a scheme, it is doubtful they'd administrate it per se.

As for board representation, I think that is currently a more realistic target than owning the club outright but we've all seen the obstacles such a carrot provides in recent years.

Frankie, I just want to give some money to the club I love. I would prefer that my monthly donation is administered by an supporters representative. But if this is not forthcoming I am just as happy if the board run my or any fans financial contributory club fund?

Why the need for a fans representative?

That's why the RSA was set up, albeit it is probably not used more functionally than it could be.

There appears to be too much hunger from the RST in this respect. Shouldn't the main concern at the moment be getting our club on a steady footing, whether that is through new ownership by the various means available.

Who would this representative be? Which 'faction' of the Rangers support would he represent? Who would he report too?

As a support we are far too fragmented for this to be a viable option that would please everyone.

I am not a fan of the idea as you can guess, let football fans be football fans and let the people who run the business run the business. Allowing a fan on the board deems that fan an uber-fan who would then think he runs the company alongside those that do. He'd soon negate being a fans representative when freebies start to get handed out like tickets to certain matches, etc.

As per usual, this is a topic that is sensitive to many. If anyone wants their views aired to the "wider public" via an article on the homepage then don't hesitate to send one on to me via PM.
